Yes, this should be in Debate and Discourse but I want a simple thought out answer (or answers) that won't result in moaning about corn subsidies. (As a DnD discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving corn or corn subsides approaches 1.)
The basic gist of Capitalism is supply and demand. The issue is that farmers shouldn't really operate that way.
For example, it would make sense for farmers to produce less food collectively so that they earn more money per harvest. It also makes ruins the notion of a farmer producing more crop in a season to cover the previous one because that would lower the market cost of his or her crop. Issue is that farmers are encouraged to destroy crop to keep the market cost from going down. Which is insane, considering that they are destroying food.
To me, it does not seem like that capitalism is a good choice for food production in large, developed countries. Am I being silly?
EDIT: A thread about illegal immigrants and health care, and corn is still involved somehow. Damn you DnD!
...I'd be down for eliminating corn subsidies (basically the same thing). Vice taxes don't bother me much either. But they wouldn't even come CLOSE to providing free, unlimited healthcare for everyone...
