I forget which director it was, maybe Kubrick or something, but he had the absolute ugliest thumbnail drawings. It was wobbly and crappy, but the composition was defined and that's all he needed to communicate the visual he was trying to achieve. Maybe it wasn't Kubrick, but he's awesome so I'm just going to say that it was him.
Scorsese? His storyboards are atrocious.
Though thumbnails for an illustration are a little different than storyboards for a movie.
I don't think it's really necessary to have accurately drawn storyboards if you have a D.O.P. you know how to communicate with, and you have the shots in your head. A lot of people's story boards are block people and a bunch of shapes, pretty much like indecipherable hieroglyphics.
anyways, this is an awesome idea. like how it's going.

BRO LET ME GET REAL WITH YOU AND SAY THAT MY FINGERS ARE PREPPED AND HOT LIKE THE SURFACE OF THE SUN TO BRING RADICAL BEATS SO SMOOTH THE SHIT WILL BE MEDICINAL-GRADE TRIPNASTY MAKING ALL BRAINWAVES ROLL ON THE SURFACE OF A BALLS-FEISTY NEURAL RAINBOW CRACKA-LACKIN' YOUR PERCEPTION OF THE HERE-NOW SPACE-TIME SITUATION THAT ALL OF LIFE BE JAMMED UP IN THROUGH THE UNIVERSAL FLOW BEATS
If you're having trouble with ideas what about using something like Sketchup/maya/3ds to build primitives and set a camera angle and then drawing environments from that?
Obviously you could also draw them, but maybe doing it like that would add some constraints which might make the idea makin part of your brain kick in.
I was actually thinking I could do exactly that. Next time I do thumbs, I'll try that out.
it works awesome and is a method a lot of artist use. Also allows for perfect perspective and easy to get those weird perspectives correct like fisheyeing a scene.
You are to draw, paint, or in some manner, construct no less then ten (10) character silhouettes. Keep in mind that we are striving to leave our comfort zone and "go crazy". Then, chose your favorite two (2) and refine or develop those silhouettes into character sketches. Provide a 2-3 sentence background for each.

Looks like some sort of Town Crier to me. I like it. Though the horned helm makes him look a bit like a battle type dude when the rest of him looks rather domesticated.
Maybe he's a town crier with dreams of being a great hero.

I've done some crappy thumbs, I will post them and draw up my sketch tomorrow. I also lost my password to my ftp so I don't know what to upload everything with.
Sorry to kill this thread, but I'm going to try and bring it back to life!

I'll post the next assignment tomorrow, I want it to be a good one. Maybe I could get some suggestions? I'm leaning towards character silhouettes.
