RepRap

No, it doesn't say rape, you dyslexic person.

It's the Reprap project!

If you haven't already heard of it, RepRap is short for Replicating Rapid-prototyper. It is the practical self-copying 3D printer shown below - a self-replicating machine.

reprap-small.jpg

But it doesn't just replicate itself, that would be silly and pointless. It can make loads of things!

Now some of you might be thinking "Now Wimble, I am pretty sure I heard about this years ago. Why should I, the centre of the universe, give a fuck?"

Well, maybe you haven't heard about this yet.

If you have, well then good for you, post your opinion of it or something, god.

one of my subjects last year had a project where we had to make gears to be cut out by a cnc machine

i dont know how ours turned out or if they even actually made it because it was supposed to be at the end of semester and probably had to attend a lecture to find out

my part of the project was designing a lid for the case the gears were gonna go in
someone else worked out how to program gears to be cut
another person carved a box out of a thick solid block
i came up with the programming required to make this million dollar machine drill 4 holes in some plastic

one of these days the general populace will understand that roids do absolutely nothing to the size of your penis

it's your balls that shrink, and it goes away when you come off of them

As 3D printing technology progresses and becomes cheaper, I wonder what effect it will have on the economy if decades from now you could essentially pirate almost anything that you could buy in a store.

how would it be pirating if you're using a freely available design you downloaded and built it yourself using the base materials you purchased?
