Magari's cute. And wtf at engineers upgrading to bards.
I wouldn't quite say Bards; but rather some section of the Drum and Bugle Corp. And the fact that we're going back to Shield, Sword, and Hammers, is nothing short of ridiculously insane but morbidly fun to play around with. "IT'S HAMMERTIME!!!" *Smashes a Tank's Radiator for 1-Hit KO*
Also, I spotted enemy Minigunners as well; it looks like SEGA is pulling as many weapons as they can for this game.
...Now where's the Valkyrian Lance and Shield? Or the secret "Beam Lancer" specialization (aka Artificial Valkyria Troopers)? Just give me those unlocks and I'll be happy.
I'd like to know where you got the comic in the second spoiler. Please?
One of the chan boards about 5 years ago judging by the date modified. Sorry, I dunno whence it came from, I just know I encountered it on iiChan or 4Chan, decided it might be of use in the future, and lo and behold, it was. I've been saving everything I run across that seems useful ever since I decided 1984 is still coming. Of course, saying that kinda defeats the point...
Just another something I found in my archives. Wish I could find a bigger version.
Even trying to put aside my personal vendetta against the game...Valkyria Chronicles at #8 for a games of the decade list is straight up ridiculous.
Now, homo sniper looks pretty awesome, but his friend does not. I will be rooting for betrayal somewhere down the line. I guess it could be okay if they went with like a super nurturing protective relationship, but even then the sniper could do so much better... The overall increased focus on bishounen is a terrific move, though. (That super vain looking blonde guy will be awesome, no doubt.)
What's the deal with the different uniforms the characters were wearing in their intro portraits in those movies? The regular academy outfits look pretty terrible but the other ones actually look decent.
I will be sorely disappointed if the game does not allow you to destroy a tank with a coronet.

Personal vendetta? I...what?
And anyways, I dunno VC making numero eight might be high (although I can see why they placed it that high, I'm sure the dearth of good JRPGs on this gen had much to do with it...they had Lost Odyssey on there in the 30s for Chrissake's, even though FF X didn't chart), but it's not like it didn't deserve it on its own merits and wasn't better than many-to-most of the games it beat out
I am so close to hating Valkyria Chronicles outright. It's entertaining enough that I can't, but I really want to sometimes. I've complained a lot in the thread before : ( I love complaining about it : (
Anwyay, I just noticed that Mother 3 is at number 3 and now I'm way too incensed about that to care about where Valkyria Chronicles is.

Valkyrie Chronicles does have its faults(unbalanced classes, very simple ranking system, etc), that much is true. But I will say that its sum is greater than its parts. It also did a lot of stuff that I feel strategy RPGs need to do in general(I've been a SRPG fan for a while, but the genre really does feel like it is stagnating).
I won't say it is the best RPG I've played, not even this generation. But it was still a very good game, and one of my favorites as far as this generation goes.

My only complaint about VC is that the ranking system encourages and indeed seems to require some very boring strategies in order to get your A rank.
If however you play the game without worrying about you ranking it becomes exponentially more fun.
This is Valkyrie Chronicles Rank System:
"Run through stage fast!"
I think a good way to discourage this would just be to have more mission variety, basically don't have the majority of the stages be capture stages.
Have missions where you defend points and don't capture them all the time. Maybe even missions where you have to take a point(gathering intel or something), then escape and such. Maybe do like Fire Emblem and have "bosses" guarding some of the cap points so you can't just lob a grenade then capture, and you can't just send one person out on their lonesome.
I know EX mode with no orders probably did this somewhat, but I don't like when games take away mechanics just to add difficulty.
*Also they would still have to fix the rank system so it takes into account more than just speed. Well, let me rephrase, so that speed isn't the only stat that really matters.

I just...why hang out in a thread with people who absolutely love this game if you don't really like it?
I mean, I don't hang out in the Halo thread, for instance
(Although I do post about how much BD sucks if someone says BD is good. But that's different :P)
Then again, I totally and completely agree with you that Mother 3 is super overrated as hell so you know

So I only just bought a PS3, and this game was one of the huge reasons I wanted to buy it in the first place.
Sunk a good few hours in so far, and I'm just now approaching the dreaded chapter 7 battle.
Loving it so far, sort of trying to avoid falling into the Scoutrush strategy if only because so many of the more awesome characters are Shocktroopers and I feel like I ought to get some use out of Rosie, Vyse, and Jane. (I hear Ramona is good too, but she steadfastly refuses to show up in my roster, chapter after chapter)
Ugh... so close to finishing this game, but I just can't push myself to do it...
I'm at the final battle where you're on the giant battle ship and you have to destroy Maximillian after knocking out those towers and I get past the first part in the first turn, but then I always die/Welkin's tank gets destroyed before I can kill him.

I'm not certain what part' killing you there, but try using smoke grenades.
If you hit a powerful unit with one of those, they can't see anyone to shoot them. It won't keep them from moving out of the cloud on their turn, but they won't be hitting anyone with interception fire.
And if you find that you can't see them to shoot them in the smoke, well, that's what flamethrowers are for.

Damnit, right at the end of the chapter 7 battle, Jann gets killed and an enemy soldier runs over him to perma-kill him immediately afterward and before I even have a chance to haul him out.
Maybe someday I'll do an iron man run, but it won't be today.

Yeah that's how most quick strategies for that level work.
Max does have an interception dead zone directly behind him like every other enemy. If you hit him with smoke and come at him back and forth with shocks on both sides, he'll fall. You'll want to stack your deck with as many double attack shocks as you can (that means Vyse is in) because taking Max (even aiming for his head) is like taking down the APC with just scouts.

Agreed, it is much more fun trying to see how fast you can kill every enemy. Simply clearing the level is boring.

I've said this before about the ranking system, and I'll say it again: Yes, it ostensibly sucks from a player perspective...but story wise it makes absolutely perfect sense. This is supposed to be be the Wolverines fighting against the Soviet invasion force, The French Resistance fighting against the Nazis, the Viet Cong fighting...err, well you get the picture. The goal shouldn't be to destroy every enemy unit, it should be to reach the objective as fast as possible.
A great challenge mode for the game, IMHO, is to treat each death as a permanent death, even for main characters. No medics. And then if you are super insane like me, you can also go No Medics, No Orders and see that speed really really really matters then. You can scout rush for sure, but you quickly run out of scouts over the course of the missions. I got to about C16 and I had no scouts left (couldn't use Alicia because she "died" in Chapter 15...don't ask). I did end up beating it with that challenge...but only just barely.

That doesn't make the ranking system not suck though...which I think is the complaint.

Hey, Fire Emblem isn't that bad. Really, my biggest complaint with it is that the gameplay has stayed mostly the same for quite some time.

Man I had the best idea for a VC thread whilst the Hanukkah forum was open
It was gonna be a list of all the Jewish characters in VC, how/why they were Jewish, how Jewy the game is (you spend golden six-pointed stars for abilities! If that's not Jewish I don't know what is), list all the non-Jews/Jew-haters, talk about how Valkyria are basically Palestinians, and summarize with a whole bunch of Jewish stereotype jokes

Has anyone been able to find a copy recently? I've kinda been looking and had no luck.
Can't say as regards to the USA, but I haven't seen a copy around the shops in England for a long while. Your best bet is to buy online. Amazon have plenty of copies to be found here.

The best part of the game was when I found out why in the personnel file that Medic was just called Medic.
