    Help me out PA:

I'm still in RB1 world...well, I own RB2 but I still use RB1 equipment with it. I was considering upgrading to the RB2 equipment since the "special edition" is only $99.00 now. I've heard the drums are better and also wireless (and the guitar is too, I think?) so those are big pluses. But what I want to know is should I bother buying the cymbal expansion kit for it? Is there a general consensus about the thing? Is RB2 better with cymbals?

edit: frankly, is there a lot to be gained by going to RB2 equipment? If I don't get the cymbals, then what am I getting out of the upgrade besides the wireless?

I'm sure you'll get plenty of people telling you the cymbals are worth it. But keep in mind the game doesn't know the difference. Any use you'd get out of them would be because you know when to hit cymbals in the song.

As far as upgrading, you'll be getting better quality equipment overall and the RB2 Strat has autocalibration functionality.

The pedal most certainly can still break.

It's just now more likely to be a fault of technique than design if it does.

The RB2 pedal can break, but it's much, much harder to do. If you maintain proper technique with your foot (even pressure on the pedal, press primarily down on the yellow bar) even the RB1 pedal should go a long way, though.

So now I've finally taken the plunge, signed up for a scorehero account, and am now playing songs so I can input scores because i can't remember what my score is for on any of the songs.

Of course this means I suddenly can't FC Warmup tier songs anymore.

Nocren, you're ahead of me in song count, but I'm actually far ahead of you in price spent: I've owned Rock Band 1 and 2 on both PS3 and 360, I had every DLC song from launch until April 2008 on 360, and over 400 songs available on my PS3 total.

    So yeah. A lot.

    LEGO Rock Band trailer.

Awesome stuff. Too much LEGO, not enough Rock Band for the first half of the trailer, but it gets into the game and it's pretty nice. Hope they have a regular stage or two, though. Give me a setlist and confirmation I can export out or import DLC in and I'll be happy.

Actually, I don't think it has been posted, so you're in the clear. At the very least I haven't seen it, and I waste way too much time looking for coverage. It seems the hype machine is really kicking in now, they've been playing more Beatles on the radio now and mentioning the game when they do.

Great video, though I really should stop watching them. Have to leave some surprises regarding the dreamscapes!

    Does that include Pepsi?

I figure I've spent just over $500 on Rock Band and Rock Band related things. Including Pepsis and the tools and supplies to hardwire the shitty GH3 guitar. 31 tracks are courtesy of the Pepsi promo, but those were factored into the cost of buying the drinks themselves since not all of them were winners.

    You bought the Ion, right?

I'm factoring the software, the RB1 Export and the 160 or so DLC tracks I've accumulated (I simply averaged the price to $1.60. The 60 Pepsis I bought solely for the RB promo and the hardwire kit. And when they release, another $100+ for the B:RB Gretsch (and I haven't decided if B:RB will be an early purchase or not). I haven't actually bought any songs since I started playing the contest since I don't know what else on my list might be added, if anything.

You can't put a price on fun.
    But around $775 for me

    $165 RB1 bundle, license transfer
    $60 RB2 disc
    $90 RB2 drums
    $80 RB2 guitar
$10 repair materials for drum heads :)
    $20 some drumsticks
    $120 Goodwood drum heads
    $30 2-cymbal pack
    $40 drum throne
    ~$150 DLC

Could also tack on another $1400 for the Xbox and new TV which I pretty much purchased to coincide with the game, but it's not like I use either only for rock band... just mostly for rock band.

    Oh man that looks awesome.

Anime Buns hairstyle in there is pretty much confirmation to me that "Yes, you can remake your characters from Rock Band as LEGO minifigs".

If the trailer speaks true, it seems like the songs aren't all going to be performances but will be more story-based, which is actually kind of neat.

Confirmation of export/import pending, but I'm wanting this more than B:RB... as terrible as that may sound.

Much as I think they're actually using the Lego license really, really well in Lego Rock Band, I'm really hoping there will be some way to import. The only real block (har!) I can think of is not wanting some of the PG-13 songs in a Lego game, but that wouldn't be an issue for importing from Lego into Rock Band.
