Dumb question here, but where do I enter in my Xbox code for a winning song from the Pepsi contest? I'm stupid as shit, apparently.
The 25 digit alpha-numeric code? Either through the xbox.com Marketplace website or using the Guide button and selecting Redeem Code on one of the blades.
Obviously you'd have to be signed into the website to use that avenue or logged on to XBL for the console.
I know everything on Wikipedia should be taken with a grain of salt, but has anyone looked at the Upcoming Songs Wiki? I remember seeing an announcement with most the bands, but Snoop Dogg? Did I miss that, or is that just some wiki bs?
Weren't they originally going to put that in RB2 and then decided it was too boring?
Or was that another Billy Idol song?
If you really do think and notice about it, the song IS pretty repetitive. Especially for bass and drums. Of course, some people can usually dismiss repetitive stuff if the song is awesome enough, which thankfully Rebel Yell is.

Huh.
Huh.
Sorry, I've no idea how to respond to this. It's like you've just informed me that the sun's in fact green. And my hands are fish. And that all McDonalds is good for you.
It's kind of surprising you'd never heard it but were familiar with the other tracks. He's really only got a couple of songs left that anybody cares about. But Rebel Yell was right in the middle of a period of songs that you couldn't get away from. An entire career built on a three year period of songs...
Anywho, after being assaulted with the abomination that is the 'Bring The Noise' version on GH5, I realized that Rock Band has a sad lack of anything Anthrax so far. I'm pretty sure that I'd love to see an Anthrax pack containing 'Bring The Noise', 'Be All End All' and 'Got The Time'.
Okay, the broken Pepsi codes are fixed, but is this week's DLC up for grabs on there yet?
I would be shocked if the list got updated again. I'm pretty sure what is available now is all we are going to get. The promo ends at the end of next week.
I'll be hitting up the MTV store in Times Square for the Beatles RB demo on my lunch break today, will report back with more impressions. (Though I did get to play it once already at a press event a month ago! :rotate:)
Alright, well I just finished a marathon session with a group of friends. After about an hour of just playing Quickplay we decided to tackle the Story Mode as a full band and... to my surprise we actually got through it!
We had a full band most of the night and had two mics plugged in for a good chunk of it so I learned quite a bit... mostly on vocals.
So now some more observations. PLEASE excuse any typos or things that just don't make sense as it's almost 4:30 AM and I have been playing for nearly 8 hours and I rarely proof read even when I'm not tired.
- Overall, playing in a group was a lot of fun. As I said, we played through the entire setlist (and then some). Even if a RB or GH game was only 45 songs, I don't think we'd have done that. Everyone knows these songs and is willing to give any one of them a shot. There was quite a few comments like "This song is really fun to play" and "I didn't know this one but it's REALLY good" through the night. The only complaint was that there needs to be MORE!
- I was playing Bass for a fair bit of the night. Overall it seems pretty easy, and there are even a few songs that are a bit dull, but not terribly so. The hardest I got to play on Bass was I Saw Her Standing There, which is the song for the bass Achievement. It's certainly not impossible and I was never in danger of failing, but I'll never get 100% on it. Mainly though it's the only song I've played so far that's tired my wrist out. Not as bad as Everlong or songs like that, but still tiring.
- Some of the songs seemed to catch our drummers out a bit this evening. There's a perception the Ringo wasn't the greatest drumming, and while that may be true, he's not sticking to boring, anyone could do this, patterns every song. There were certainly some challenging stuff here.
So here's the real meat of this one. I spent most of the night on Vocals, either while playing Bass or just Vocals when we had 4 people. Almost the entire night though we had two people singing so I got a real taste of how it all works, and I think there are quite a few misconceptions, so I'm going to try and straighten some stuff out.
- If you're playing Vocals by yourself you can choose either Solo Vocals or Harmonies. If you choose Solo Vocals it is just the main vocals, as it would be in any other RB game.
If you choose Harmonies, it doesn't mean you're ONLY singing harmonies, it means that the Harmonies are added in. The solo vocals are still there to be sung. As such, you can score higher points, so there are separate leaderboards.
In this mode you need to sing whatever you can to keep your streak going. If a phrase only has a solo (blue) part, it must be sung to keep the streak going. If the next phrase only has a harmony part it also must be sung to keep the streak going. If a phrase has multiple parts, you must sing at LEAST one of those parts well enough to fill up the meter fully to keep the streak going.
If in a phrase you sing a bit of the solo and a bit of the Harmony but each meter is only filled half way, you will get a "Good" or "Messy" and break the streak.
It is possible to get a Double Fab bonus by yourself if you can completely fill two of the meters yourself in a single phrase. Sometimes the Harmony and Solo tracks overlap to make it so you can fill both at the same time. Or you can sing the solo to "Awesome" and then jump to a harmony.
I have no reason to believe that Triple Fabs bonuses won't also be possible if you're good enough and the phrase is accommodating. I'm sure they'll be some crazy YouTube videos soon of people getting crazy scores by themselves.
- For multiple mics, the rules pretty much stay the same really except you've got three people to get as much of the bars filled as possible.
Even if a song only has a single vocal track (no Harmonies), you can still have all 3 mics singing. Everyone will be singing the same thing, but as long as one of the 3 pitch arrows is within the pitch limits, the pie will be filling up. Same applies for a song with 2 vocal tracks.
For songs with harmony, it's all the same as in single player, except that you've got multiple arrows to fill up the meter.
If a player(s) sings the solo lines and fills up it's bar, you get a "Fab" and continue the streak no matter how poorly the other player(s) do. You could all be singing the solo parts if you wanted too to try and ensure you at least keep the streak going.
If you all sing poorly and none of the three bars are not filled enough, you get the standard "Good", "Messy" and "Weak" and break the streak.
As in single player, if there is a phrase with just a solo line, it must be sung well by SOMEONE to keep the streak going. If there is a phrase with just a Harmony, it also must be sung by SOMEONE to keep the streak going.
- In my experience tonight, it was NOT easy to hit the harmonies and the solos parts at the same time. Now granted, one of the two singers was on bass the entire night, so that didn't help, and the other singer wasn't really good enough to hit all the solo lyrics while playing base to let me concentrate on the harmonies when they showed up.
Also there are many times, as we've seen in the videos, where the harmonies are only slightly above or below the pitch of the solo vocals and those are quite hard to hit as the main vocals are so ingrained in our heads and they're only a little off what you know to sing.
I'm sure people will get good at it though.
- The detailed vocal stats on the post song screen will show you exactly what % of each vocal type each player hit. For most of the night I was getting about 90% on the solo track while my friend was getting about 20% of the solo while playing bass and trying is damnedest to get as much of the harmony as possible.
I think that's everything I wanted to say. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm going to pass out now.
Me and the fiancee had a thought for Lego Rock Band: a Disney DLC pack. Possibly a Track Pack. Sure, most of the popular Disney movie songs seem more 'orchestra' based, but there's got to be some. Like the obvious one is the Powerline song from Goofy Movie ... that's where we got the idea.
And I just tried to redeem a Wii song, no luck

That'll probably never happen, since Viacom (head of MTV, owners of Harmonix) is getting Nickelodeon to try to generate its own pop stars to compete against Disney. Sucks though.

HMX is not especially shy about charting 'inappropriately'. They tend to avoid it, but it's not unheard of. The potential freezepop should make that clear enough.
And thinking that the Nick/Disney kids-pop competition would preclude getting Disney songs is probably premature. At least until Disney finances their own music rhythm game...

Hell, even now. If "Smokin'" didn't make it abundantly clear with the organ solo, "Clint Eastwood" sure as hell did with its guitar-charted harmonica solo.

In the marketplace you should be able to select redeem code. Otherwise, go to marketplace.xbox.com and pick redeem code from the drop down.
And I made a mistake, anyone want a copy of Rebel Yell?
edit: if its for xbox anyway

Honestly White Wedding is pretty zzzz after the millionth time.

Except for the "Rebel Yell" part, 'cause I've actually never heard it.
You were born in the mid-80's and you've never heard Rebel Yell?
How is that possible?
~ Buckaroo Banzai
Ok, you've heard it but you don't know the name. That has to be the case.
IT JUST HAS TO BE.
Edit: Download and listen to it man! You're missing out.
Double edit: Hang on! You own World Tour, you've never come across it? It's part of the setlist.
I've heard "White Wedding" and "Mony Mony" is an alright cover. I think that's it from him.
EDIT: Guess I'll look it up on Youtube!
It's okay though.

I think my favourite Sesame Street parody is
However, if I was allowed to pick one song from Sesame Street to make it into Rock Band, it would have to be
No idea how it'd chart, but I'd never stop playing it.
It was "Rebel Yell" by David Bowie that was reported as being too boring. Which means either Rebel Yell or Rebel Rebel. So probably Rebel Rebel.
