[D&D 4E - Recruiting] GIANT ANTS : Casting Call! <PART 2> (LF1M CON/LEAD/HYB)

G I A N T ¤ A N T S
ITS A FRAKKING CASTING CALL!

Giant Ants is a short adventure featuring giant ants, and of course other monsters attacking a town. The game is running currently, and I'd like to find a sixth person to join them, if possible. Specifically I am seeking a LEADER, CONTROLLER OR LEADER/CONTROLLER HYBRID. I hate to start a new thread for this, but I also don't want to necro up the attempt at a general recruitment thread from like last year or w/e. Consider this a casting call. The first section describes how the game is run, the second section describes what I'm looking for. I'd like to make a decision on this by [strike]Sunday, August 8th, 2009[/strike] NEW DATE PENDING. Please read the post, then reply.

A. A bunch of sentences that describe how the game is run.
Table:
Current title: GIANT ANTS COLON ITS FUCKING ANTS, MAN.
Time Zone: I live in the Eastern Standard Time Zone, so the play time will kind of be more favorable to that zone. (8am-12am) or something similar to that, assuming RL doesn't kick my ass.
Starting Level: 2 - See DMG for information on starting a second level character.
Creation rules: 22 Points Flat (And a 3d3-5 Roll). The roll is of mechanical importance. Do not roll it yet.
Target start: Already active.
Medium: PBP only
Maptool version: N/A
Maptools Session Length: N/A
The Table - Rules: Not too serious/rigid interpretation of the ruleset.
The Table - Content: Look at the title. Think.
Difficulty: Challenging would be the word for this.
Experience Required: A basic understanding of how to play would be great?
Books Required: Any 4E content is allowed, at my discretion. Don't be a dick?

List of acceptable races:
  • No monstrous races. IE: If I have to look in the MM or MM2 for your basic racial info, it's a no.

Be it because their flavour doesn't fit the game or because I just don't like em as player characters, the others aren't acceptable at all. I'm sorry for the inconvenience that may cause.

There are two Dwarves, a Half-Elf, Gnome, and Human in the current party. The party favors Arcane.

List of acceptable classes:
  • Leader, controller, or a hybrid with either.
  • [strike]Positively no more bards.[/strike] BARDS ARE OK, SORT OF.
  • Ranged support would be preferred over close combat.
  • This game has the amenities and tech level of an late 1800s era civilization, including indoor plumbing.

Other:
  • No setting specific backgrounds or traits (spellscarred, dragonmarked, etc)

B. What am I looking for?
To the extent that is reasonably possible, I would say being able to post at least once a day is a must. Being able to post more would be nice. The base requirements for playing would be that you participate in the IC thread - post a day, at least... hopefully more? I'm fairly active during the weekdays with posting, barring any unusual RL circumstances or being busy. I don't expect you to live and breathe this, it's just a game ffs, but yea... it is just a game, meaning if you don't post you shouldn't feel slighted if you're replaced or whatever.

Really important note: activity includes non-combat. Despite its brevity and absurdity, it's still a roleplaying game. A party full of strong silent types is not what I'm looking for even with this game. All characters should be made with the baseline assumption that they can/will function positively within the group. Also, no evil characters. So what am I looking for at this point?

A post—please do not pm this—with the following responses:
1) Current pbp games you are in or run. If you feel you were awesome in some game or whatever you can mention past ones too?
2) Availability M-F for maek post, and time zone you are in.
3) A brief description of your LEADER, CONTROLLER OR LEADER/CONTROLLER HYBRID character's appearance and personality.
4) If available, a link to Mythweaver's character sheet or whatever (CB or other coherent sheet).
5) You've been traveling with another adventurer and a monster attacks. The two of you manage to bring severely wound it, but not before your friend is severely wounded. The monster is clever, putting you into a situation where you must choose between your partner's life or pursuing it. Though you didn't know it beforehand, your partner would die from the wound regardless. With his dying breath he tasks you with returning an heirloom to his family at the nearest town. When you get there they ask you what happened. Did you run? Did you leave him? Are you the monster? (Behind a spoiler in-character what does your character do/say?).

You don't need to fully generate a character, I don't expect one here. Just what I asked for in this post is fine. I'm looking to fill the spot with a character, not numbers. Also there is no need to reserve a post, not like there's a line. It is not first come, first serve and the availability of this slot or character safety is not guaranteed. It's highly likely that my recruiting pattern for this will continue to skew towards people who haven't had a chance to be in any games though (just in general), but in the end it's my preference and the needs of the group that win out. I would prefer that you only put in one submission here per person. Also, for this game, it is okay for you to present a LEADER, CONTROLLER OR LEADER/CONTROLLER HYBRID that was generated in a previous pbp game. Note that mechanical adjustments would come later down the line to make your character a fresh level 2 character entry.

So in summary: I'm looking for a leader, controller or leader/controller hybrid character to improve support capacity. This character can not be an artificer: I already have an artificer in the party. A brief post with what I asked for in part B is sufficient. I'd like to get this done soon. If you don't know how to make a hybrid or have a million questions about a hybrid don't app a hybrid for this game please. If
you don't have DDI I will not give you the materials for making a hybrid. Lastly, use only this thread to contact me regarding this spot and whatever please.

Casting Call Revisited

Unfortunately one of my players isn't going to be able to continue so there is a sixth slot open again =\. will probably have a shorter turnaround time for this run. If you already have an app and you said you wanted to be on reserve you can change what you have, to be fair.

I say that because I've given it a lot of thought, and I do not think that a Shaman would work at all in this game. Shaman lean toward Leader/Defender… I am looking for something with a Leader/Controller slant, and the concepts given didn't really marry up to this game too well either. Please do not submit an artificer, because there is one in the party already (Cleonicus' character). Bards are ok now, sort of maybe.

Alrighty donuts, here's an artificer for you. Sorry about the first post, I anxious to start up a new game.

    1) Current pbp games you are in or run. If you feel you were awesome in some game or whatever you can mention past ones too?
I am currently in SniperGuy's Keep on the Shadowfell campaign as Khross the Warlord.
This game is in a stasis at the moment. (Ask sniper if you want details.)
Im raring to get another game going so I got something to do in hotel rooms after work.

    2) Availability M-F for making posts, and time zone you are in.
Heh, as long as the hotel room Im in has internet, Im available after work. Im pretty much criss-crossing the country with my job, but home is in Pacific time. There has only been a couple times in the last 2 years where the hotel actually charged for net access (really? they still do that?) but thankfully, those were 2day jobs and I just went to starbucks cuz Id rather get net -AND- coffee...

    3) A brief description of your LEADER, CONTROLLER OR LEADER/CONTROLLER HYBRID character's appearance and personality.
Xeric Carter (Zer - ick) is an artificer in the bounty hunter business. Clad in leathers and a brim hat, he is usually the long arm and grenadier of the team with his crossbow and odd assortments of arcane and steampunk gadgetry. He's no fool and learned to stay in cover or off to the side and let the grunts slug it out. Because of the nature of his profession, Xeric has a dark sense of humor, commenting on the shade provided by enemy fire. Even though bounty hunting is a shady business, Xeric has done very well keeping to his code of ethics by only bringing in criminals and lawbreakers. If a client dupes him about the nature of the target, Xeric will setup an escape for the framed target and collect the bounty to prove a point.

    4) If available, a link to Mythweaver's character sheet or whatever (CB or other coherent sheet).
    Xeric Carter, Human Artificer

    5) You've been traveling with another adventurer and a monster attacks. The two of you manage to bring severely wound it, but not before your friend is severely wounded. The monster is clever, putting you into a situation where you must choose between your partner's life or pursuing it. Though you didn't know it beforehand, your partner would die from the wound regardless. With his dying breath he tasks you with returning an heirloom to his family at the nearest town. When you get there they ask you what happened. Did you run? Did you leave him? Are you the monster? (Behind a spoiler in-character what does your character do/say?).

Think "Cowboy Bebop" antics while your reading this:
    "3, 2, 1, Let's Jam!
Xeric and Biggs held up their end of the deal. Get the man that hurt the client's daughter. The target settled down after the chase and subsequent scrap, but he was vehement that the girl was lying. Hearing none of it, the two hunters took him to the meeting spot.

Meetings are usually tense, but this time everything just felt wrong to Xeric. The Mr. Sims reneg'ed on their deal and simply shot the three of them down.

"Good for business," Mr. Sims laughed. "Kill 3 snakes and save on the expenses."

Xerics was spared most of the fire from the unintentional shield proved by Biggs and the target he watched over. Dying, Biggs asked Xeric to take his share to his family and to kill the bastards that doublecrossed the both of them.

After three days of healing, the stiff Xeric walked into town along with a caravan and waited until nightfall.
After three hours of explosions and fighting, a mansion was burning and three people were dead as Xeric killed the 2 leiutenants and Mr. Sims.

"Just business." Xeric replied and pulled the crossbow trigger.

Since then, Xeric has been staring into a bottle of booze while looking for work. Bounties have been few and far between lately.

Hope that is enough for ya.

Not in any games atm. was in 3 games that ended within 2 weeks of each other (Legacies, Trollhaunt, Forged by Fire) and tried running my own, but could not deal with all the pressures of DMing.

    2) Availability M-F for maek post, and time zone you are in.
Currently recovering from broken ankle syndrome, and have all the free time in the world. In Mountain Time. In about a month or so, when im done recovering, ill still be available most days.

    3) A brief description of your LEADER, CONTROLLER OR LEADER/CONTROLLER HYBRID character's appearance and personality.
Rior served in a great war, many years ago. Though the war was long forgotten, the lessons he learned are still with him to this day. He tends to think in terms of a unit. Once he joins a unit, he refuses to leave any man behind. If there is no clear leader in the unit, he will attempt to assume the role.

He is battle scarred, and beginning to show some signs of age - unusual for an eladrin. During his daily trances, he meditates on all his fallen comrades; remembering each one's name, their goals and ambitions, and praying for peace for their souls. He believes in the honor and glory of battle, but as a tactician, knows the value of a strategic retreat, or even diplomacy when needed.

    4) If available, a link to Mythweaver's character sheet or whatever (CB or other coherent sheet).

Rios looked solemnly towards his fallen friend's family. "Your kinsmen fought brave and valiantly. He has brought honor to your family line for generations to come. His last wish was for you to have this." he said, offering the heirloom. It is always the same, he thought, they never understand the significance of death. To them, death is a taker - always demanding more. But I know death. Death is the poetic and honorable finish to the sanctity of life. Always, life and death dance; circling each other in perfect harmony. The women wept silently, as the men tried to remain stoic. "I am sorry." said Rios, "May he rest in peace."

And height seems to be the biggest disadvantage. I'm probably one of the taller characters, but look who's hurting the most. But please don't let that deter any potential candidates. In fact, feel free to submit a very tall, giant of a character to absorb of all hits...I mean be awesome. Yes, awesome that's the ticket.

    Paramour Wren
    Elf Shaman Leader/(Defender)
An elf of medium build with a perpetual look of bliss on his honest face. In touch with the spirit world, he generally wanders from place to place communing with nature and holding simple ceremonies for the less organized of the religious. Believes in reincarnation (of those who believe in reincarnation, that is). He also can be found assisting in controlling the ravages of nature through direct intervention.

    J. D. Quoves, Mysterious and Powerful Shaman from the Human Lands of Pohuiland

    1) Not playing in any. Tragedy, I know.

    2) Euro zone, can post daily. Maybe even more than one a day, if I can.

    3)
    J. D. Quoves talks to invisible animals. J. D. Quoves drinks way too much. Surprisingly, these two facts are not interrelated!

Some people make fun of him for talking to invisible animals, but then they get punched in the face by giant invisible fists. They belong to his sidekick, Killmurder the Unstoppable Panda of Death. He’s invisible and fiercely loyal! J.D. used to have a dwarf as another sidekick, but he got eaten by zombies and broke his heart so J.D. is sad now. Sometimes J.D. gets drunk and tells Killmurder to start punching people in the face to amuse him. It’s not a very nice thing to do but it’s cheaper than psychotherapy.

By most standards, J. D. Quoves is a bit of an asshole.

If anything, if he had to pick a word to describe them, it would be ‘pissed’. Even the beards looked angry. He weakly cleared his throat and tried to start again. “So, uh, me and your son, we went to the Dread Evil Zombie Forest…” The squat dwarf woman in front of the other dwarves cut him off. “Husband.” “Husband?” “Husband.” He looked her over again. In retrospect, Dwalin’s choice of adventuring as a career didn’t seem all that weird. The five glum dwarves behind her did look like their dad, too. Bushy beards, lots of axes. He decided to cut the visit short, before it did the same to him.

“So, uh, the zombies ate him and he’s dead and here’s his axe and half the wages.” He quickly shoved the bag with the axe into the heavily armored arms of the glaring woman and started slowly backing away. She dropped it to the floor, opened it and shrugged. “Oh well. At least I got some of the money out of the bastard.” She put her hand on the shoulder of a tattooed dwarf to her right. “Goodbye, mister Quoves.”

Demetrius is a skinny, gangly, tall guy. Both his parents were built like mountains and keep expecting him to fill out, even though he is 34. So far, his success as an adventurer has been fairly filled with suckiness. People get hurt (including him) and he tends to cry a lot. His moral foundation is weak at best and he tends to fall apart at inopportune moments. Sometimes while he sleeps.

He took two steps and ****sob*** he fell facefirst. The poison and the... rot from the goblins' blades had inflamed his body. And... he... died... before a cleric could get to us. He ****sob*** made me promise to bring his boots back to his village. So I brought them back. They are right there in the coffin. I used a ritual to preserve him... but... I joined the forum mostly so I could apply for this. Who doesn't like giant ants? And hey, Druid - they're good with animals and nature, and ants are animals and part of nature, right? Perfect fit, if you ask me. Of course, you aren't asking me, that would make it too easy. I like easy.

    Gwenn - Human Druid
    1) Current pbp games you are in or run. If you feel you were awesome in some game or whatever you can mention past ones too?
    2) Availability M-F for maek post, and time zone you are in.
    3) A brief description of your non-bard LEADER, CONTROLLER OR LEADER/CONTROLLER HYBRID character's appearance and personality.

    1. None, at the moment, but I did play in a WW Werewolves game pseduo PbP, in that most of the game was done on the forums with a once-monthly session to really advance the story. Example here: http://thecaern.proboards.com/index.cgi?. I played Jack Logan (Fools the Wyrm).
    2. Temporarily in Boston, for a couple more weeks, then heading back to CO and mountain time. Mostly available lunch hour and evenings.
    3. Gwenn was stolen by the fey as an infant, right out of her crib, and under the noses of her unsuspecting (and uncaring) parents. She grew up with the Eladrin, considered mostly an oddity and partly a servant. However, they took her for a reason - her innate connection to nature's spirits. Perhaps it was something to do with the Feywild, but Gwenn learned quickly of nature's secrets, giving her a wisdom far beyond her meager years. Growing up among the beautiful Eladrin, Gwenn considers herself somewhat ugly, though in truth she is merely plain, with dark auburn hair and tan skin. Aside from interactions with Eladrin and the animals of the forest, Gwenn is naturally shy, meek, and naive.

    5.
When Gwenn left the Feywild, her friend, mentor, and adopted sister Quelenna, accompanied her to help reintroduce her to human society. After days of travel and conversation, they were set upon by a party of bandits. Though they managed to beat them off (and leave several as lifeless husks), Quelenna was mortally wounded helping to defend Gwenn.

"Please, Gwenn, do not be saddened," said Quelenna. "My spirit shall soon return to the Feywild, and I will be at peace." Gwenn said nothing, but tears ran down her face, turning the caked-on trail dust into muddy rivulets. Quelenna reached up and stroked Gwenn's face. "Perhaps one day, if the gods allow, we shall meet again."

"How... what would you have me do?" Gwenn asked of her friend. "I know little of the world beyond. How will I make it without you?"

"You will be strong, Gwenn, and you will learn to coexist with your kind. Never forget, nature and its spirits are always all around you." Quelenna shifted, slightly, and let out a ragged sigh. "Take these gifts, my sister. They will help you in the world beyond." Quelenna indicated her staff, lying at her side, the amulet clasped about her neck, and the totem she still held. "One day, when the time is right, you must return these to our Court. You will know when that time is. Until then, use them with wisdom and care."

"Yes, of course, I promise," sobbed Gwenn.

"Goodbye, dear sister..." breathed Quelenna, and closed her eyes for the last time.

Gwenn built a small cairn for Quelenna and prayed for her friend's spirit to Melora and Corellon before, with a heavy heart, continuing on her journey.

Though she has been living in human towns for nearly a year now, she remains aloof and shy, still more comfortable with the forests surrounding towns than the towns themselves. She has developed a hatred for those who would ambush and waylay travelers, and always keeps an eye out for those who attacked her and her friend, hoping that someday she will be able to avenge her dear sister's death.

    /sarcasm but justified.

How can I not be picked? I've got healing out the wazoo -and- any time Im attacking something, Im giving a bonus to attack or defense, or hurting the enemy...

    -Plus-

Ive got a robot! Which is way better than a ghost or a pet... A robot is cold, calculated, uncaring. Existing only to carve a swath of entropy and despair among the living. It also has stainless steel claws, so the viscera and gore just slides right off.

And when I level up, I get *more* robots which do more of the same!
