So I have about 2 months before I can get another laptop (my previous one had a Nvidia 8600m which fried)...I'm working in Korea and I'm looking for online game recommendations that I can play at the Korean pc rooms.

I have 3 main options:

Option #1 A good Korean game, I'm learning Korean atm so I don't mind if it's all in Korean. There are about 20 online korean games available on each computer, but I don't know which ones are worth playing.

Option #2 (not sure if this will work) A game that I could throw on a flash drive and install fairly quickly (without a restart) and play online for each play session.

Option #3 A mod for popular games like Warcraft 3, I'm currently playing Dota Allstars.

Thanks in advance for input.

This might help, at least to give you a huge fucking pile of games to sift through.

    Hi Silk,
An important question is do you have a working Korean National ID number? You will need to have a functional Korean National ID number (주민등록번호) to sign up and login to many of the Korean online games. If you do not have one, then some companies will allow you to create an account if you fax them your information and a picture of your passport. Luckily, most of the online games in Korea are run through a small number of large publishing houses. The top 5 online publishers and a list of their popular games are listed below:

    1. NC Soft (http://www.plaync.co.kr/)
    - Lineage 1 and Lineage 2 (MMORPG)
    - AION (Currently the most popular Korean MMORPG)

    2. Nexon (http://www.nexon.com/main/page/nx.aspx)
    - Maple Story (2D MMORPG) - You probably want to stay away from this game if you are older than 12
    - Kart Rider (Racing) - Basically what Mario Kart online would look like with some nice team features
    - Crazy Arcade (Arcade) - Basically what Bomberman online would look like with some nice team features
    - Counterstrike Online (FPS) - Valve's Counterstrike 1.6 updated with a streamlined Front End interface with stat tracking, clan support, etc...
    - Dungeon N Fighter (Arcade) - Remember Golden Axe from back in the arcade days. It's like that but online with different classes and a bunch of new abilities.

    3. Neowiz (http://www.pmang.com/)
    - Special Forces (FPS) - Similar to Counterstrike, the #2 FPS in Korea right now.
    - FIFA Online 2 (Sports) - Co-developed with EA Sports, it is EA's FIFA game played online with an added meta-game of building and growing a custom team.
    - Slugger (Sports) - A popular online baseball game with the official Korean Baseball Organization license.
    - AVA (FPS) - Another FPS game that was one of the first games to come out in Korea utilizing the Unreal 3 engine.

    4. Hangame (http://www.hangame.com/) - The Games division of NHN
    - Tetris Online (Arcade) - It's multiplayer Tetris
    - Monster Hunter Frontiers (RPG) - Online Monster Hunter
    - Batoo (Strategy) - Basically the ancient Chinese board game GO, but played online with some extra features.

    5. Netmarble (http://www.netmarble.net/)
    - Sudden Attack (FPS) - The most popular FPS game in Korea
    - Magu Magu (Sports) - Another popular online baseball game with the official Korean Baseball Organization license.

Neowiz, Hangame, and Netmarble also feature a ton of parlor games including Poker, Go Stop, and other card games.

If you can read Korean characters you might also check out http://www.gametrics.com/. This site tracks the popularity of games played in Korean PC Bangs (internet cafes).

The current top 10 list as of August 5 2009

    1. AION 15.47%
    2. Sudden Attack 9.52%
    3. Starcraft 7.77%
    4. Warcraft 3 6.60%
    5. World of Warcraft 5.06%
    6. Lineage 2 5.03%
    7. Special Forces 4.48%
    8. FIFA Online2 4.08%
    9. Lineage 3.95%
    10. Dungeon N Fighter 3.57%

Excellent write up krapst78, thank you. I'll be checking into a few games you listed. Looking at the top 10 games listed it looks like the same games stay popular time after time here. I don't have a Korean ssn, but I'm sure I can get a Korean friend to help me make an account to share, or something along those lines. Thanks again for your input.
