PA MOVIE NIGHT
This is how I figure we're going to do this - on a selected night at a selected time we're going to watch a movie at the same time. You can watch by yourself, or preferably join up with participants in this thread for a party experience. Since parties can only contain up to 8 people, we will probably need to form more than one party. We watch the movie and then meet up in this thread and talk about the movie, what we should watch next and report the funny shenanigans that occurred during the movie. TV series are great but I think people should be able to watch them at their own pace and not all series are entirely available on Netflix.
The Next Movie Night Movie is:
A Boy and His Dog
The movies in the PA Movie Night Queue are:
Delicatessen
Die Hard
Machine Girl
Let The Right One In
Visioneers
Wall Street
Braveheart
Big Trouble in Little China
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
Ong-Bak
OSS 117
Pan's Labyrinth
Redbelt
Bon Cop, Bad Cop
Drunken Master 1+2 (Double Feature?)
Imprint
Real Genius
One Crazy Summer
A Very Long Engagement
Blazing Saddles
City of Lost Children
Tears of the Black Tiger
TimeCrimes
I moved Machine Girl down the queue a bit after Tokyo Gore Police made such an impression. I don't think we should overdo strange japanese cinema, after all.
I will add a movie to the queue when I see it mentioned. Anyone else can vote for a movie by mentioning the movie or saying they vote for it. Movies with the highest vote count get bumped to the top of the list.
Participants looking to party up:

It's part of the upcoming Live update. Some people, like myself, are in the beta program and so have access to the new stuff already.
Basically, they added some browsing capabilities (you can't browse by title, but rather it shows you a few dozen of the most recent things in each category), the party viewing function has been added (haven't tried it), and it does a much better job of dealing with slowed internet access.

Not all movies are watchable with a party yet but Microsoft and Netflix said they're working with their partners. Last time they said that, Sony movies became watchable on the 360.
I bought a big ass TV so I could watch movies without people around me.
Better job with the slower internets!? Is there any word on that? I'm stuck at 1 bar on everything I watch.
I'm not sure about that. The streaming from Netflix is actually handled by a third party. Though, you may also be having issues with your ISP or home network set-up.
Before, if your internet speed slowed, everything would freeze for a seconds, then a screen would appear, you'd have to wait a few seconds more, and then your show would be back in glorious vasaline vision. Now, there's just a slight hick-up and your video continues to go at a slightly lower resolution (at least, that's what happened last time I watched a movie).

Netflix charges a safety margin of 40% on streaming.. meaning the max bitrate they'll send you on a movie is going to be 60% of your download speed. You can hunt around with google to find the bitrates of all the "bars" if you're curious, could help you confirm whether the problem is with your internet connection or something else.
The Party thing for movies is kind of doofy. It displays on a smaller picture with a border of a movie theater around it and your XBox Avatars are all along the front row seats ala MST3K. There's an emote-wheel for you to make your guy do stupid shit while the movie is running that everyone can see.
I love being able to Browse right from the 360 though. Press X To Add To Instant Queue! I think I added like 35 items the other night and I haven't been on the NetFlix website in months.
August 11 is "soon", in geological terms.
Shhh. That's far too logical. :P
I am incredibly impatient when it comes to these sorts of things.
You can turn the avatar border bit off.
Well that answer's the question I was about to ask.
Also sending invite on live, everyone can feel free to add me as well.
Holy fuck this is like nerd sorcery for people who can't be fucked to go across town and watch some film with a friend or six.
EDIT : Still no update, going to go ahead and get some sleep now. Well a nap more or less, hopefully it'll turn up later. I'll look through some instant queue titles on Netlfix and see if there is anything I can suggest when I get the chance.
There are many others like it, but this one is mine.
Machine Girl is also on there.
Thems my votes.
aka Grillaface
Big Trouble in Little China
Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
Die Hard
Let the Right One In
Ong-Bak
OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies
Pan's Labyrinth
Redbelt
Friday Night Lights Seasons 1 and 2
Avatar Season 1
I vote that if you have netflix, you should be watching these.
Also I actually like the idea of the avatar movie thingy. Right now I live about 500 miles from any of my rl friends but most of them have 360s and what not and I could see this as fun.
edit - I just remembered Hot Fuzz. Hmm, that makes it harder to rate. Oh well, it's still great. Go watch it.

If for some reason you've missed out on television's best and most consistently entertaining show, there is now no excuse. Sci-fi television at its greatest.
Also, for people who might have watched Lost and fell off the boat during season 2 because of (comparatively to the first season) slower pacing, season 2 is much more bearable when done marathon-style (and I still maintain that it's one of the most interesting seasons). Season 3 picks up though, and as of the end of season 5 it still hasn't slowed down.
do not watch imprint (in hopes that people will watch it)
Primer does rule.
Since people here seem to be as interested in the movie as I am, I thought I would post this "book" a guy wrote - now in blog form. He originally posted info on the Primer forum about buying his book but shortly after the forums were closed to new members posted the whole thing on blogspot. He claimed to have pretty much explained everything and while some of it does provide an interesting deconstruction of the movie it actually confused me more.
Do Not Read The Blog Unless You Have Watched This Movie The movie really is a well-crafted and nuanced work that could use a guide. But that would suck a lot of the fun of it out. It is by no means an unapproachable wall of Sci-Fi or anything. The story stands pretty well on its own and most of the people I tell to watch it view the film once and are done with it. But some of us feel compelled to witness it over and over again.

A lot of this reads like drunken, unedited Vonnegut but there are some interesting details pointed out. Of course, this is all unofficial so it means absolutely nothing.
There is also this interesting timeline:

Again, don't bother unless you have seen the movie. Although this bit of explanation is also suspect:
I watched this last night. So good.

I disagree and my girlfriend would murder me in my sleep if she knew I posted that. It's her favorite movie.
Gamertag: Judas Fn Priest - feel free to add me, I'm down to watch.
