Have you switched to Linux yet? If not, you're still giving Microsoft money and thus the man wins.
No one ever said stickin' it to The Man was easy. Especially given that Linux on the PS3, by almost all accounts, seems to suck. The cause requires sacrifice.
Really, it sucks? I've never heard that it sucked just heard that it was a pain in the ass to install.
Man, that sucks. I must be lucky ::knock on wood::, I've had my 360 for 3yrs now and never had a RROD. But, I do plan on getting a PS3 as soon as God of War III drops. Then I'm gonna have a field day playing games I never got to play, like Drake's Fortune, Killzone 2, Ratchet and Clank, Valkyria Chronicles, etc.,
Why would you say that? Your 360 is going to explode aaaaaany second now.
Realy man that's like daring a man on a ledge to jump.
Kidding asside I actualy had to send in my launch ps3 in for repairs after about 6 months of polygon/texture errors and lock ups I got fed up with it. Nice thing is they always send back the same modle so still rocking the 60gig model. Just not running Folding at home the whole time I'm not playing anymore.
*shrug* Eeeehhhh.....I'm still on my launch Xbox 360. I joke about it all the time.
Then again, I joked about my PS2s until PS2 #3 kicked. And then I wanted to murder anyone who made those jokes.

This was discussed to a greater extent by people actually knowledgeable about Linux on its intended platform--PC--in another PS3 thread not long ago. I was kind of surprised too--apparently, not only is it usually (emphasis on that) a pain in the ass to install on PS3, it really offers zero advantage to the original PS3 software and blesses the PS3 user with unending wireless problems.
Looking online, the wireless problems seemed to be universal. But this is all hearsay anyway.
I'm considering off-loading my 360+everything to get a PS3. For some reason, something about it appeals to me more. I think I like the exclusives better. And I really want to play InFamous. We'll see I suppose.

I guess the biggest issue with ps3linux is that there is little or no access to the graphics hardware. So anything cool you could do with homebrew is basically not allowed. Probably out of fear of people turning to Wine/Cedega to get PC games working.
It's been said already but I also see a lot of wrong answers so I'll make this clear.
If you're looking for a fighter and like any sane person only invest in one at a time BlazBlue is the best one out right now, if only for the reason that it's online is vastly superior to any other fighter out.
For a shooter i'd say Killzone 2 is my fav on PS3. The controls seem a little touchy at first, but once you get a hang of them, it's a intense (although short) ride. The Multiplayer is pretty decent too.
Uncharted is a great game. It's visually amazing and very entertaining dialoge wise.
And although it looks like a little girly kid game, Little Big Planet is insanley fun.
I wasn't all that impressed with Uncharted after playing the demo but ended up loving the full game. If you are unsure then rent or goozex it, but I would definitely give the full game a try.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

I regret renting Uncharted instead of buying it. It's a fun game, and by the time I really got into it, the game ended and I had to return it. I just purchased a used copy in anticipation of 2 coming out. Can't wait to play as [strike]Indiana Jones[/strike] Nathan Drake again 8-)
Get Uncharted. The game is amazing, very polished and very fun. Great voice acting - the trailer for the 2nd game looks and sounds like it's a trailer for an action movie. The hardest mode is also ridiculously hard compared to the other modes. If you enjoy a challenge then it should be worth the purchase, otherwise rent the 1st and purchase the sequel in October. *note* I hated the demo and didn't try out the game until a year later
Get Pixel Junk Monsters. While I love most PSN exclusives this one I've been playing consistently since its release.
The learning curve in Warhawk is high, I still can't fly a plane properly in that game without getting blown to bits instantly. I like Resistance 2 more than Killzone 2. I felt that both lack soul and feel very cookie cutter, but Resistance feels more arcadey while Killzone feels like a CoD spin off. Plus, Resistance 2's co-op is great.
MGS4 is good, but only if you can get into the story. Otherwise you'll want to kill yourself. (I personally enjoyed it)
inFamous is amazing. Being a big fan of flawed heroes I really enjoyed it. Didn't care much for the story until one choice came up towards the end that really had me thinking what I would do in that situation. By the end I was giddy with excitement to replay the game.
Tie a cinder block to your feet, throw yourself into the ocean and die with what little dignity you have left. :P
Prototype is easily the biggest disappointment of the year so far. Not very good at all, especially coming from the Ultimate Destruction guys.
Its decent enough but despite the similarity in terms of sandbox its like comparing apples and oranges. One is a beautifully realised world filled with depth and stuff going on, the ability to increase your powers, decent boss characters and an egrossing story, the other is Prototype.
It's not a terrible game altogether, it's just that it was done by Radical, given their former piece of work and having the shiny current-gen consoles to work with, I expected at least a solid 9. I got what was maybe a 5.
Id asay 7, graphically, apart from Alex everything is terrible, worse than San Andreas somehow but for running up the sides of buildings and elbow dropping? It cant be beat.

Ugh. I was hyped up for Prototype for over a year. Played inFamous first and was blown away. Played Prototype about three weeks later and felt so disappointed. Maybe I would've enjoyed Prototype more if I had played it first. The crazy thing is that there is more content and missions in Prototype...it's just not as fun as inFamous.
Get yourself Burnout: Paradise (I love it on PS3 but found the 360 demo to be meh) and a pair or snap-op triggers to turn the DS3 into a capable controller.
All else I can do is echo the sentiments of others. Infamous is great electrocution-y fun, Uncharted is awesome - it is equal parts Gears of War and Tomb Raider with an Indiana Jones skin, and both Ratchet & Clank titles are wonderful. Quest for Booty (since you already have Tools of Destruction) is completely worth the $15 they are asking for it on PSN.
I don't get the massive love for Uncharted. It's a good game, and worth buying, but I found the combat to be pretty mediocre. And there was too much of it. Enemies took way too many hits to die, too.

Different strokes for different folks. I can't think of any other game in any genre where I flat-out enjoy the combat as much as I did in Uncharted (on Crushing difficulty, naturally :P). I tend to be a more platform-oriented guy (love Tomb Raider, Prince of Persia, Mirror's Edge), but while I loved the platforming in this, I found myself hoping to ambushed by thirty guys at any given point.
Also, enemies don't take too many hits to die if you shoot them in the head. You might think you're shooting them in the head, but they duck and juke constantly.

Personally, I loved it because it felt like I was playing a movie, the voice acting was superb, and I found the weapons to be a blast to use. They felt like their real-life counterparts, and I'm an achievement/trophy whore so in-game medals (that unlock trophies) that net you bonuses in game were a great addition to me.
I also loved the replayability and had a blast on the jetski sections (especially the first one).
The only negative and where they went wrong was hyping up the water-clothing effect. Its there like twice, same with that log balancing thing. Its used so rarely it might as well not be there.
But those games normally dont work for me, I never got into Tomb Raider and Uncharted can be fucking ridiculously hard just on normal but i kept pushing forward because its enjoyable and interesting to play.

Headshots were almost one-hit kills on every difficulty. It's the same way in Red Faction: Guerrilla.

Prototype really makes a bad first impression, I got about 3 hours into and haven't gone back since.
I let a friend borrow it and he's done pretty much the same.
It probably didn't help that I bought it not long after I finished my first run of inFamous, those loading screens really annoyed me.
I swear, every single thread about the PS3 and I'm usually the one who has to mention this. I should get royalties from Sony.
But the best racing game you can buy is Wipeout HD. Although there has been some furore over the stupid ad video that's been put into the US version.
Maybe it's just me, and I'll probably get some hate for this. But Uncharted is overrated. Think of it like Halo, it's a good enjoyable game. But when was the last time you replayed Halo? (aka, you'll complete it a couple of times and then it'll be "meh")

I've got a spare copy of Portal, if anyone wants it message me.
I can also wholeheartedly recommend Uncharted as well. I'm not that into shooters, but I gave it a shot and got really absorbed in it. I thought the characters and story were pretty great. I'd agree with UnbreakableVow, I really looked forward to getting ambushed in certain sections because I enjoyed the action so much.
As for PSN stuff; I can recommend Super Stardust HD since you're into the shooty stuff as you say. I really enjoyed Pixeljunk Monsters too. If you're willing to give it a shot, Flower is a fantastic experience. I also gave the demo to Trash Panic a shot yesterday and that seems pretty cool, but I don't know if I can fully recommend it based on the demo alone.
I plan to get Fat Princess at some point as that looks great. Although I heard there were some problems with the netcode.
The big ones have already been covered, so I'll just reinforce: MGS4 (especially if you're into the whole MGS saga), Valkyria Chronicles and inFamous are all games that I enjoyed to death.

3) Uncharted is awesome. You may, in fact, be doing it wrong.
Oh, and Trash Panic is neat, but the difficulty curve isn't really a curve so much as it is a nice, straight line followed a sheer cliff face.

I'm going to side with LockedOn....Uncharted is a fine game, but I wouldn't pay $60 for it personally. Which is odd, because I really do enjoy most games of the Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia vein, and I was fine paying $60 for GoW2. I want to say it's because Uncharted tried to take elements from all of these games, and while they might be very well taken together, taken separately, they did strike me as being distinctly inferior. I frequently found myself wondering during the game "....hey, you know, I could be playing (insert game from which specific element is borrowed from) right now....". But given how good the reception was to the game, I'm confident I'm in the minority. Your mileage may vary.

Having played both versions retail (though, ironically, not having owned either), I can't say there's a difference between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions (other than my distaste for the DS3 in racing games, but that's purely subjective). I really don't think there's a noticeable difference between the two versions. Definitely a multiplatform game, fine on either console.

It is completely possible that the demo is just bad, but I enjoy it immensely on ye olde PS3. Also, this is one area where the PS3 trophies are better than the 360 achievements. Each download pack (free or otherwise) has its own trophies (so Cagney, bikes, toy cars, legendary cars, boost special cars, cops & robbers, and big surf island) while the 360 sits sad and neglected with its carbon copy of the in-game awards for achievements. It is worth noting as well that the PS3 trophies do not line up with the in-game awards which, in my opinion, makes them all the better.
And I can't speak for the 360 version, but I've never had trouble finding people to play with online on PS3 if that's your thing.
The two single best reasons for a PS3 are Uncharted and VC.
Uncharted has polish that is simply amazing, and a truly fun storyline. The gameplay is fun minus the jetski bits as well.
VC is amazing in the way that it makes you feel for every single character. I have actually felt *angry* at myself when characters die, you only have yourself to blame! Once you build up a squad you will find yourself connected to these characters as a unit unlike any other game. The story is decent and the game play is pretty fun but it's really the pure character design and careful choices they made when presenting these characters thru snippets of dialogue that makes it amazing. Final Fantasy has nothing on the pure emotion you feel as you realize you left your favorite sniper a little too close to a tank for example. You have three turns and pure luck to get her back or she is dead. If she dies ALL action will stop just to show you in grim detail her final moments of anguish or sadness or even endless hope for mankind. You also feel guilty making your squad! Listen to the youthful enthusiasm this person barely in their teens has - you realize as the squad leader you are possibly leading this kid to their death.
That game has impact for sure.
Edit: I did play this game just after coming back from Iraq and there I saw a US solider barely eighteen by himself for reasons unknown just sitting in the parking lot of the mess hall alone in the sand storm. Just sitting there lost in all aspects of the word. That may flavor my opinion of VC but a million PA fans can't be wrong either.

Both games I hit plenty of headshots that were not one hit kills.

I'd be quite surprised if the XBL community for Paradise was smaller than the PSN community. But, it's been ages since I played (back when I did play it, the XBL community was considerably larger--that may have changed, since that was around the time of launch).
I don't play PS3 games for the trophies myself--hell, the PS3 game I play the most does not have trophy support to my knowledge--so that isn't really a factor for me.
I HATED Uncharted. i hated damn near everything about it, the control scheme, the music, the story, the characters, i couldn't bring myself to finish it.

i quit half way through it was that bland.
You hated every single aspect of it?
Its not possible you can;'t find ONE thing redeeming in it.
I have this nice shiny copy of Devil May Cry 2 for you to try, I believe you will like it.
But, but Drake was so smarmy.... how could you not like him?
I also really liked the combat in that game on the harder difficulties. It became very tactical, deciding what cover to take, where to move to to combat the next wave, who to brutal combo for the extra ammo and when to use the grenades. I could see why some people wouldn't like it, but i loved it.

Profit!

And I can't speak for the 360 version, but I've never had trouble finding people to play with online on PS3 if that's your thing.

I also really liked the combat in that game on the harder difficulties. It became very tactical, deciding what cover to take, where to move to to combat the next wave, who to brutal combo for the extra ammo and when to use the grenades. I could see why some people wouldn't like it, but i loved it.
Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
