I had to buy Fallout 3 on day one. The wait for release was excrutiating

If I was still waiting now, almost a year later, I think my head would explode

I got a ps3 a few weeks ago and I haven't had this much fun in a long time. Last console I owned is an N64.

I've got a ton of games now though thanks to the $5 for anything $29.99 and under sale at hollywood video. I really liked killzone 2, uncharted, and modern warfare so far.

I skipped some generations too. It really feels like the second coming of video games when you get back into the race.

    I missed the N64/GC/PS1 gens.

For those of you waiting out on getting a PS3 your patience is being rewarded in the form of a $100 price slash on the 80GB and 160GB model.

Whether this is just a limited time FYE sale or Sony clearing out the older models before the rumored slim hits is as of yet unknown.

Just to add a little nugget of information to the pile, I have encountered annoying problems with the emulation, not for PS2 games but for PSX.

    Chrono Cross.

You basically can't play this game on a PS3 because it freezes almost every time you use magic. Sony say that it's Square-Enix's resposibility to patch it to work, so basically don't count on ever getting to play it on your PS3.

All PS3's use the same PS1 emulation, correct?

I'm running a NTSC 60 Gig PS3 and I'm almost eight hours into Chrono Cross. Infact, it's the only game I've had in my PS3 this last week and not a single issue has come up at all. I've never played the game before, so I can't comment on load times or things like missing transparency, but I can tell you it's running.

I picked up the MGS4 bundle PS3 while in the US, and apparently this freezing issue is very common, but not on all PS3s, which is weird because I thought the PSX emulation was all the same. The freezing for me didn't start until after the mansion bit, at least not as consistantly.

    I'm slightly past that;
I just finished getting the Hydra bone to cure Kid's poison.

To err on the side of caution and not spoil the first ten hours of a nine year old game. :P

I assumed PS1 emulation was common across all PS3's too, which is why I'm surprised. If anything changes I'm going to be mighty pissed. This is my third attempt at playing it and I'm actually [finally!] over the fact it isn't Chrono Trigger and simply enjoying it for what it is. Razzly is awesome.

Yeah, if you had any doubts about Sony finally dropping the price on the PS3 or introducing a Slim, this should just about erase them. $299 will push the remainder of the units off the shelves in anticipation of the new model. It's about time Sony :P

I think it's more likely that the emulation differs depending on what production run the game is from. That's what that number on the side of the case (usually something like SCES-02323) is for.

Strangely enough, I had some troubles with BC on my (NA) 60 gig last week. I was playing Hitman: Blood Money, and it simply refused to save my progress. Well, it saved once - but that was one out of about thirty attempts.

It's the first time I've ever had a problem with BC - very strange.

Quick question, controllers are a fucking ripoff in Australia - can I use a Dualshock 3 controller purchased from any region on my PS3?

(For the love of god say yes, American/Japanese ones are half the price :P)

    Yeah. It's region free.

I got a third party one for $40 and it works just fine actually.

In fact, you could use any 3rd party controller.

If it makes you feel better, the PS2 version of Hitman: Blood Money is by far the worse version.

It's much better on....well, everything. Xbox. Xbox 360. PC. I'm just surprised it didn't eventually come out for the PS3.

This is probably your PS3 trying to deter you from playing the worst version of an otherwise highly enjoyable game. D:

DS3 controllers do seem quite cheap. I found them online for $14, including shipping, new, with the mini-USB cable (though, truth be told, I really don't need more than one cable....). Though I'm trying to be frugal (must spend money on books) and have just been using my crappy Sixaxis.

Sweet, cheers. Anybody know the best place to get cheap DS3's that can be shipped to Australia? In JB today they were one hundred and ten dollars which is absolutely, unfathomably expensive.

Wow $14, what place has them at that price? The best I'm seeing them for is $30.

Yeah. It's online...$8.50, plus $5.90 shipping, from a reputable (well, 99.3% reputable) eBay powerseller. 180-day warranty--which probably isn't really 180 days, but at least you have a week to see if something is distinctly wrong.

I'm not really playing much PS3 now (plus, only PS2 games I own actually use rumble), otherwise I'd pick up one immediately.
