The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I've been graduated from college for a little more than a year. I have been working as a software developer since. The pay & benefits are good. I work out regularly. I'm healthy and I don't really have much to complain about besides being single. Well, and job stress/frustration from time to time. But I just can't help but feel, "Is this it?" I don't feel like I'm making much of an impact on anything in that, sure I might squeeze a few extra dollars out for my company, but I don't feel like I'm really contributing to society. I don't expect to land myself in a history text book, but man, I feel like a steam engine with nowhere to go. I suspect it is a (mild?) case of quarter-life crisis.
For a while now, I've been wondering what my next steps might be. I've considered a graduate degree in one of three fields that might be useful for a future career. I've also looked into nursing school a little bit. But I keep coming back to the Peace Corps. I've read the material on Peace Corps and read up on the information they have to offer on the site. It's a two year commitment, not something small by any means. But I don't really know what it's like to do it, I don't know anyone personally that has and I wonder what happens after you come back from it all. Do they help you find another job after that? Do they encourage you to continue? So H/A, do you guys have any advice pertaining to the Peace Corps or just in general? I'm not looking for a "Here is what you do with your life", but I'd happily hear other points of view or if you could give me some personal experience with the Peace Corps.
