My wallet basically fell apart because I bought the cheapest one I could find and loaded it full of stuff. So I figured I won't do that again - Instead, I'll get a good wallet. Recommended by the lovely people at the PA forums.
I've been looking at the Ducti duct tape wallets, because I actually got one for brother a while back and he's pretty much loving it. They have a lot of things going for them - conversation piece, easy repair and lifetime warrenty, but sadly they don't have a coin enclosure and I use that thing all the time for, well, coins and picks and stuff. I'm still considering it, but if there was an awesome, durable one out there (added bonus for geek content) I would rather take a look at that.
Hm, that is true. But then I might as well just make the whole damn thing! Which I just might. Still I would like to hear some suggestions on great wallets.
I've had a 15 dollar velcro spitfire wallet for as long as I can remember. I've used it every day for 7 years and it still is in perfect condition. Check out a skate shop, I'm sure they have other similar canvas type material velcro wallets.
I avoided leather just for the sweaty ass factor and leather and wet don't usually mix.
I've used several different wallets (including the Big Skinny which, while wonderfully thin, broke after a couple years). That above though has been my favorite style.

Usually keep a crappy cheap wallet in back pocket, few bucks and trash cards. Typically whichever wallet was my "last" wallet. Then whichever "good" wallet is in my front pocket or jacket pocket.
Using a pretty beat-up leather bi-fold at the moment, which I like. I've got a brand-new leather tri-fold ready to go, though. Never really looked into specific brands or anything, though.
Duct-tape wallets just seem a bit... I dunno, I guess it has to fit your profession or character. I typically wear three-piece suits, so a ducttape wallet wouldn't look right :P
Some of the more expensive wallets are fairly worth it, but I really think you can't go wrong with a ~$30 leather bi-fold or tri-fold, depending on what you prefer, from any random department store. Leather stores also often have a decent selection. Just poke at the wallets for awhile and find one that you think will fit well, with the right combination of credit card pockets, etc. for you.
I remember friends having duct tape wallets they'd made back in high school. Why you kids and your trendy hips-hops would pay for one, I don't know.

This. Many years ago my parents went to Italy and as a souvenier/gift thing they brought me back a nice Italian leather wallet. It was falling apart after about a year. So I went into some luggage shop in San Francisco and picked out a nylon & velcro trifold wallet out of a shoebox the clerk kept behind the counter. It cost me $10. That was 6 years ago, and today it's still like new.
I think I might go for the canvas trifold, I have a couple of skateshops nearby and I do remember them stocking wallets. Size isn't really a factor, since I never put my wallet in the backpocket (thieeeeeves), but I did briefly look at the Big Skinny. Their site is horrendous, though and that sort of put me off.
Oh, and I stumbled across this. I wouldn't pay for it, but it's a neat idea.
I do, however, like wallets in funky designs and such, so maybe I should look into some indie clothes stores and such? Do any of the online ones make funky high quality wallets? I think I'm leaning towards trying my hand at a duct tape one for kicks, though.
Oh, I should add that the Taxi wallet (the one I link above) has a really deep pocket for holding things. I thought I wouldn't like it, but gave it a shot since it was a gift from my dad (who has used the same one for 15 years), and it works awesomely well.

Yea, leather with a fabric liner and really tight stitch work (which is I'm sure the only reason my dad's has lasted so damned long). The one he gave me he actually bought for himself a year before giving it to me on the assumption that he would need a new one soon.

I like my eagle creek slim bi-fold wallet. It is tough but not bulky, and still has plenty of pockets for my various cards. It is canvas, but doesn't have any velcro and doesn't look cheap. It holds up well against my occasionally sweaty ass and still looks like new after about 3 years of use.
I'm a big fan of what I guess is called a weekender wallet or evening wallet. Extremely minimalist. Holds my ID, 2 or 3 cards, and few folded bills. Thats really all one should ever need on a daily basis - ID, bank/credit card(s) and a little cash.
When I swapped to one, I realized my old tri-fold wallet was causing me a ridiculous amount of back pain, due to the fact that when I sat down, half my ass was sitting on something measurably higher than the other half.
EDIT: Apparently, some versions even come with coin pockets, if you're into that whole thing.
A few years back I gave myself a $100 allowance a month for fun money. I then withdrew that money in cash. I payed for everything with bills, it I didn't have bills I didn't buy it. I put the extra change in a piggy bank every night. At the end of the month I put the leftover bills in the bank with the change. At the end of 6 months I was really broke and decided to use my bank. I had $75 in there. Loose change adds up.
On topic: I used a $10 leather wallet from walmart for the last few years and it's still perfectly fine. I had to go back to a girl wallet though since I started carrying a purse again. I don't feel comfortable putting my new phone in my pocket.

No man counts coins when paying for anything. You either pay credit/debit, or pay in bills. A real butch man refuses coins as change, as well.
Counting coins is walking the line along with writing checks and using stacks of coupons. Both punishable by death in my state.
Man, I don't know about you, but if I have 35 cents in my pocket or something and the total comes to 12.35, I'll sure as hell drop a ten, two singles, and the change for the sake of getting out of the vicious cycle of constantly having change around.
As far as wallets, I've always wanted to try the supposedly damn-near indestructible ones from All-Ett.

Well, I don't use coins other than to stash in a jar and cash in every year or 3 for happytimes, but the OP said he uses them. Or at least uses the pockets. Maybe he puts his weeeeed in it.
If you want to hold lots of stuff get a purse. A real man carries nothing but a couple cards and some emergency cash. Coins go in an empty cigar box on your dresser.

It's quite possible that the "Italian leather wallet" was purchased from a street vendor, explaining why it fell apart so soon. High quality leather wallets should last years.
I've had mine for 8 years and I am just now starting to see signs of wear, and that's in the lining and not the leather. I think I paid $30 for it during a clearance sale, where supposedly it was originally $80.
I certainly have no illusions about my parents having spent a fortune on that wallet, but - how to say this - they tend to consider street vendors street people first and vendors second. So I'm confident the point of sale at least had a mailing address.
Don't know if they'll have the style you're looking for, but for a long time i always got my wallets at places like Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, etc. Decent quality for usually less than 15 bucks.
I say 'used to' because a few years ago, i found this. Two ID spots (one internal, one external) and just enough space for a few cards and a few bills (folded in half). Think i found it for 20 bucks somewhere. I'll cry if i ever have to find another.

Well, this is probably not going to be up your alley since you want a coin pocket, however, I just bought a Magic Wallet. I spent weeks searching for a good thin wallet and found nothing. Apparently guys like having square shaped objects bulging out of their pants.
Anyway.
It's wicked thin and works really well for someone who doesn't have a lot of cards to carry around (My drivers licence and PAL, debit and credit, a couple membership cards and health care card). www.magicalwallet.com
I'm assuming that whatever wallet you do end up going with will be "tall" like this one. My old wallet was basically the exact same thing, but was only as tall as a U.S. dollar, so Euros would stick out the side. This one comfortably fits Euros and USD.

I bought my leather tri-fold back in my sophmore year of high school, and it's just now falling apart. That's 16 years of daily use, sometimes jammed full of crap. I seem to remember it costing around $20 at a Penney's store, but obviously it's been a while.

But you have to consider that I'm in Denmark and we don't have bills for anything that's less than roughly 20-25$.
But some of those suggestions are awesome! Especialyl DBclay. Are those the same guys making the ducttape wallets on youtube? It would be a crazy coincidence if it wasn't.
I have to suggest the minimalist wallets. I didn't realize how much shit I carried with me until i switched from a bi-fold. Now I just have my AMEX, Debit, ID and less than $20 in cash in a single pack and haven't run into an issue yet. Though for a while I did go through a period of having the "oh fuck I lost my wallet" feeling when I realized the weight was gone from my back pocket.
Fat wallets cause back pain as well. The slim wallet is the way to go.
Well, only if I carry it in my back pocket, which I don't, as previously mentioned. And while I love the idea of a minimalist approach, I need to carry coins as well. I guess I could just carry those loose, but that's stupid if I'm going for a clean minimalist approach.
I really like the idea of the taxi wallet there, but fifty dollars is just a little too steep.
jeez... unless the OP is 13, please stop recommending velcro wallets... that's like having a wallet with a chain!
I didn't want to be the one to say it.
It's the little things about a guy that says a lot about them. Although the look you present yourself with may not MEAN what the majority sees it as, you have to realize that's what the majority still sees it as.
A velcro/chain wallet is going to give the look of youth, which in turn gives a negative image to an adult onlooker.
A leather bifold/trifold is probably the median... and although it gives no unbelievably positive look, it also holds you above the negative (unless you pair it with ripped jeans and a "Suck it" t-shirt)
Money clips and card carriers, combined with good attire, will likely bring your image above that median and give a positive vibe to those around you.

I think its a wallet and if someone is just around me when I have my wallet out, I think I have to wonder what's going on.
My VELCRO wallet stays firmly tucked in my ass pocket, who is going to judge because of that?

A card holder
And a money clip
Those two objects combined in your pocket will be much slimmer than a single wallet. If you still want just one object, go for this:
And then stop lugging around change and little knick-knacks like a sissy, because that's not how a man operates.
