MotW 08/05/09 This is a Job for Superman!

It was a pretty light week for me. I only had 4 books, but I gotta say, I loved World of New Krypton. Robinson and Rucka work so well together. This is one of my favorite arcs. I always look forward to the next issue after I'm done reading it.

Also, I'm having a hard time hating Alura these days. Her character has really turned around. And her new senatorial outfit is pretty awesome. I love the white shirt with the S and the big cape.

If I had to pick one particular moment from the issue to nominate, it would definitely be the final page. I hope someone can provide a scan.

S_D had a scan from Secret Six where Jeanette is being creepy awesome, so I'll put that there until I can get my hands on today's stash.

Secret Six was pretty cool, though not too much happened.
I felt pretty bad for Bane when Scandal threw him the Venom.

Also, who was that in the last panel?

World of New Krypton has been incredible in the last two issues, and I'm actually pumped to read the rest of this month's crossover now.

Exiles was once again incredible, and I'm sort of bummed out that there's only one issue left, but I'm glad that it'll be a double sized issue that promises to be conclusive.

However, my full MotW is Destroyer #5:
Destroyer fights death! He actually fights 3 of death! And wins somehow. Sure, the premise was that he would die, but he didn't. I wasn't sure if I should have been disappointed by that, but the page with his sidekick taking over the reigns of the Destroyer persona totally sold it for me. Super. Awesome.

I went back and forth on Destroyer a lot, but in the end I think the final issue really wrapped it up well, and boosted my opinion of the series back into the range of respect.

but he wasn't dead after that, BlackBolt had to scream again to sacrifice himself and take Vulcan with him, as the device was detonated (but it's Terrigan crystals were made inert by Crystal). Now there is a rip in space and time, with the Shi'ar surrendering unconditionally to the Kree.

The ending is another one of those "not an ending, just the end of this chapter" type things that Marvel keeps doing.

Must run in the family. That'd explain Cyke's awesome leadership skills in the X-Universe.

    Well...
No body is shown. Just the explosion. So probably not.

Hopefully Vulcan is, though. The book was worth it for that scream panel alone.

My moment of the week is Texiken's scan. Been waiting for Blackbolt to tell Vulcan to shut up for a while now.

I also really enjoyed Exiles. Sucks that next issue is the last one...

    Yeah. In regards to WOK,
Black Bolt's death was a joke. The whole "villain's dead! but not!" thing was pretty bleh. I'm hoping he's not "really" dead, and they just use this time to build on the character of Medusa.

It's not the "end" as it were. There is still the Who Will Rule? One-Shot, if I'm not mistaken.

I took it as Jeanette trying to pay off the executioner, but he was so drunk his axe didn't get the job done the first time. Why barter with a person who's going to be dead when you can just kill them and then take their jewelery?
