I'm having troubles downloading the trial for my Mac. After I finish downloading the installer, I go to the application "Warhammer Online" itself. However, the icon is crossed off, and if I click on it, it says "You cannot use this version of the application Warhammer Online with this version of Mac OS X."
What does this mean specifically? I'm sure I got the trial client from the right place, because I clicked on the Mac button on the website. Do I have to download a patch of some kind? Or something else?
The obvious response question is, "what version of OS X are you running"? (You need 10.5.7.)
And also, "You've got a Intel Mac, right?" ('Cos it won't run if you don't.)

I was very much down with this free trial until I found you you can't switch pairing starting lands. I would get bored of running around EvC in like a week, scenarios or no scenarios .
If they ever decide to open up the Blighted Isle and Mount Bloodhorn though, I am so there.
I'm feeling kind of lost, only have 9 more days to decide if I want to re-up or not. Anyone playing destruction side volkmar that have suggestion on guilds/groups to run with?
I logged into my DOK yesterday ran a few scenarios.. then altdorf became sieged so I went there and had some mindless back and fourth standoffs.
Think I may just take the plunge and roll up a new character and see what happens.
Assuming Mythic does lose some headcount, what I'd be really curious to know is if any of those layoffs were given an option to relocate to Edmonton in lieu of a pink slip...
The release did not name which facilities would be seeing cuts, though rumors indicate that EA Tiburon, Black Box, Redwood Shores, and Mythic are among those seeing layoffs today.
Mythic is losing around 40% of its staff - Warhammer is unofficially in maintenance mode from here on out.
To clarify: 90% of that 40% was from the team responsible for new content. I guess balance and bug fixes will continue, but nothing for new content much less an expansion.
This is really a shame because it's a matter of timing. Had they launched this year, things might have fared better. While the competition was more numerous, it can't compare to a WoW release. And we're not simply entering a horrible recession with all the panic that accompanies it.
I want to hope that they can turn it around, but I think they did a wise "fix the gameplay, follow up with attractive content" strategy that was in progress. No matter how much they clean up the game, they'll be fucked without new content. And with EA focused on stuff that is really pulling in money, I don't see how Mythic will get to release new stuff for the game.
Oh, huh, nice, Reikland Factory's a permanent scenario (well, as permanent as "being enabled when Altdorf's under siege instead of the War Quarters") now. Nice. Always enjoyed that.

So I tried out D&D online for awhile and wasn't digging it. Being a long long long time Warhammer geek, I checked out this free trial dealy and Ive been pretty much enjoying it. Really like the public quests and RvR and Scenarios. Pretty cool stuff. Im a little sad to hear about the lay offs though. I might give this a month or two of play.
It's a tad early to bail, but I have no doubt this announcement will kill the game off. Kinda sucks, as it might hang in there if the subscribers do the same.

What the hell is going on guys? They are cutting back on jobs, not shutting down games. If you want to play the game, play it. Don't be all "oh, what a shame, I wanted to play WAR...."
We're more like "oh, what a shame, now we might not see new content in a very very long time"

No, lots of people have been fired already - you could see their reactions on twitter (though lots of those have been deleted - even Drescher deleted his posts about the layoffs), or on job posting boards, or on various messageboards.

I know right, the WP is just a tiny golden god with a hammer. It's a great class, and keeps getting better as you level up.
My archmage and your WP would just about become immortals if we ran together. With that other guy as a tank, guarding one of us as well? Man.
god i hate shelving my godmode melee shadow warrior... but going ungrouped and running into the thick of melee spamming melee aoe ally heal and watching all those purple numbers fly is just.... just wow

I think the only time a game's failure has ended up being a positive was EVE Online.
I can't imagine how War losing a great deal of its grunt workers could possibly be a good thing, but I find it hard to be sympathetic. Warhammer seriously had it coming.
