I can't imagine how War losing a great deal of its grunt workers could possibly be a good thing, but I find it hard to be sympathetic. Warhammer seriously had it coming.
I blame more EA than Mythic for forcing WAR to release against Wrath. The game wasn't ready and the souring economy didn't leave people the option to have two subs.

While EA certainly holds some of the blame, it's not as if Mythic executed things perfectly.
At release it almost felt like it was required to do PvE to some extent to keep up a steady leveling pace, and the PvE was (and last time I checked, still is) horrifically boring.
Keeps and BOs were often left undefended because of a lack of reward for successfully repelling attackers. While this was later changed and infrastructure was put in place to incentivize defense, it wasn't enough to drag most people that were already non-participatory in RvR into the Lakes.
The first big content patch was Lands of the Dead, IIRC. They decided to focus on shit like this instead of fixing the insane imbalances between classes / factions, some of which have only just recently been addressed. While they were doing this, players were rapidly becoming disillusioned. On most servers, one faction was beginning to dominate, and there were only a few servers in which this was really up in the air. Those at a disadvantage stopped participating, which led to more losses, which led to more people not participating - the classic failure cascade. Many that didn't quit simply scenario'd it up, because that was the only consistent way to get some semblance of a 'fair match.'
Mythic addressed small issues with oversized hammers, and large ones with tiny band aids, and I'm not entirely convinced history would have played out any differently if EA had let Warhammer release later.
The game was slated to come out much much earlier than when it did against Wrath (in the summer, I think). It got delayed a very long time and the beta was extended a very long time to ensure that it got finished. Mythic failed to finish the game after the second deadline and the game got released completely unfinished instead of delayed yet another time, due to, I assume, rising costs.
Seriously. It was nowhere near finished. A year off, at best. But yeah, EA already granted them a long delay to begin with, but Mythic never capitalized on the extra time.
If you just take a peek into the development process you'll see a lot of failure everywhere you look. I'm sure that if WAR actually does crash and burn competely, we'll get sordid inside tales from the devs (like the ones we got from Tabula Rasa), stating just how fucked up the development of WAR was. And it's not all EA's fault.
The game just took many wrong turns which lead to the state it released in, and you can't blame it on the publishers.
This endless trail... do you have to have a R4 to have access to it? I'd be interested in reactivating my account for the free trail at least. R1 was very fun.
I don't know what to think or who to blame. Mythic did a great job with DAoC. It was going strong until Trails of Atlantis. When ToA came out the game started to suffer. It suffered so badly that they even started offering "classic" servers w/o the ToA stuff.
I would have figured they would have learned from that and would do better next time around. I think Mythic definitely had a good amount to blame, but I think EA was probably a heavier hitter in this than Mythic.

You don't get an endless trial on an account that's already been upgraded.
You can get the 10 day reenlistment offer tho.

They tried to make WoW with somewhat better PvP. No one has learned yet that you aren't going out-WoW, WoW...don't try. I have no doubt that was a heavy dose of EA influence, who was chomping at the bit to make the next WoW.
It sucks, but it's true. I have my Warhammer box sitting right here, and I'm not happy about how the game is doing. It's a damn shame, because this is one I really wanted to succeed. Oh well. I honestly play no MMO's right now, aside from a smattering of EVE. The space has become stale to me.
I'm now realizing that I should have rolled on a ORvR server. Although, I don't know how much fun that would be either. I ran all over Talabecland as a 22 WH, but I only ran into 2 Destro. Luckily I was able to trick them into hitting me
Had a BLAST tonight on Iron Rock. T3 Orderside, took some BOs, got rolled by Destro, but then fought back with the Emperor's fury! We managed to hold them off, outnumbered what seemed like 3 to 1, for a good half hour.
Managed to hit 25, and just as I'm about to log out, Land of the dead flips. I gave it a look, and god damn it seems fun.
I just got an email from there that my account was upgraded to Endless Trail. I will probably roll one to goof around some. I am still hooked and loving Fallen Earth. I may probably just do this while Fallen Earth takes their servers down for updates (usually once every 2 weeks and they are pretty big patches).
I rolled a destro character on the only orvr server. It's DEAD there. No scenario pops, I ran to nordland and checked all the usual areas and couldn't find one order player. Eventually I got turned into a chicken and killed by a level 2 peasant.
I think one of the things that led to WAR's issues (besides it's obvious need for some more time in the cooker) was Mythic's unfortunate tendency to run away from any criticisms of the game. Note that when the Warhammer Alliance forums "turned" on them (which is to say a lot of people started saying negative things about the game), they essentially stopped posting there, and instead spent their time on the VNBoards, where there were (are?) many more syncophants (many of whom were also mods).
They simply insulated themselves from the criticism for too long to be able to deal with any of those issues in a decent amount of time.

Naw.
Look, MMO players are assholish crybabies who are only very very rarely capable of offering up anything even in the neighborhood of valid crticism.
This isn't to say there aren't vaild complaints that existed or could be found, but more that I have yet to see an official board for any MMO that isn't by and large a catastrophy of outrageous assholery and outright stupidity. If I ran an MMO I'd have a set of official forums and have a company policy that no one in the company is allowed to view it ever, under any circumstances.
Remember, send me a PM with your email and I'll send you the friend referal if you intend to subscribe to the game. I so want that superspecialgriffonmount
Dunno if anyone's posted it yet, but there's a letter from the exec producer up.
Hello everyone,
With all that is going on within Mythic Entertainment and EA, I would like to take a moment to reinforce the studio’s dedication to both our games and our players. At Mythic, we remain committed to our games and the passionate people who play them – we’re going to continue to deliver the content and service that keeps you playing. We want to assure our community that we will maintain the same high level of customer support you’ve come to expect and continue to improve our games with an exciting schedule of patches, live events and new content.
At Mythic, we are the torchbearer of three great gaming franchises that we love and nurture:
-Ultima Online is the granddaddy of MMORPG’s and it’s still going strong after 12 years. Thanks to the release of our 8th expansion, there are now more players exploring Britannia than we’ve seen in quite some time. We have a passionate and committed team working on UO, and they have some really interesting plans for the future. Stay tuned!
-Dark Age of Camelot is over 8 years old and the Realm vs. Realm action keeps getting better. The development team loves what they do and never forget that DAoC was the first true MMO love for many of you (and for many of us!). They are dedicated to providing continued updates and support for this great game so the fighting in the Frontiers will never end.
-Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning has had a solid first year despite some issues that we’re working to address every day. We’ve seen a great response to 1.3.2, which introduced tremendous performance improvements. A flood of new players are discovering the game every day thanks to the recently released Endless Trial and New User Journey. Moving forward we remain committed to releasing more great patches, continued performance improvements, and changes based upon your valuable feedback!
We want to thank you again for your continued commitment to our games. In return, we remain committed to providing you with the best possible gaming experiences and customer support both now and in the future. Be sure to keep an eye open for more information about upcoming patches and the exciting plans we have in store for your favorite MMORPGs.
See you on the battlefield,
Jeff Hickman

I sincerely hope that this game doesn't drop. I mean, sure, even UO is still going with a pretty small relative playerbase, but this game sucks when there's nobody else around.
all servers at a minimum except the two that offer experience bonuses. It is grim
I was playing the other night when there was some big ass zergs roaming, and lots of action out in praag. Then it was about time that my antivirus decided to kick start a random antivirus scan and caused my computer to lock up. I had to alt F4 out of WAR and when logging back in, it said that Iron Rock was medium medium-- with like 150 vs 150.
My point is "Low" and "medium" are far from "empty."
I hope those are all the servers left, because man WAR launched with waaaaay too many.
WAR launched with waaaay too many people that had gotten headstart codes without buying the game. So they needed the extra servers to wait until those expired. It wasnt too long after that they started merging servers. I played on 3 different servers that had to be merged, and I never felt like the population was exceptionally low. There is always soo much to do until you hit 40, when you get locked into ORvR / Scenarios or Dungeon Lockouts.
So, I got nothing from the stupid technology tavern, so maybe you guys can help me...
I've been having this problem now and then while playing Warhammer Online that the screen would freeze up and no input from the keyboard will be accepted. If I'm lucky, the computer will reset on its own or the desktop will show (in the wrong resolution). When I restart the computer, I see the following error message on the System event viewer:
The driver LGDispDrv for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.
I've got a NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT video card and a LG GW1952 digital monitor, and I made sure the latest drivers for both are installed. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to keep the video from pitching a fit?
It happened twice last night. The second time was right after I finished a chapter 4 PQ but before I could get the blue sack I won. Unfortunately, if this keeps up I'll have to unsub for the health of my computer.
What have you done to try and fix the problem? Have you tried uninstalling and deleting your drivers then reinstalling new copies of them?
Also, something else I found on the 7800 GT:
In some cases, specially on cheaper video cards, the card manufacturer uses simpler memory chips (in order to cut the board price) and lower memory clocks (compatible with the memory chip used), making the board to achieve a lower performance compared to boards that use the same graphics chip but with their memory chips running at the chip manufacturer recommended clock. Because of that, we always run powerstrip software in order to check if the video card memory is running at the standard clock set by the chip manufacturer or running at a lower clock rate.
I hope those are all the servers left, because man WAR launched with waaaaay too many.

On the server where my alts are located, there is nothing to do until t4. T2 and T3 is for all intents and purposes completely dead. Don't count on getting a scenario pop at all in any of those tiers. It sucks. Only option there is to grind PvE and hope to catch up PvP-wise in t4. Of course you miss so much RVR and scenario content that way.

I don't think I'm suggesting that people should take any player suggestions at face value, but if players are complaining about something in large numbers then it's possible that that particular thing is worth changing, or at least investigating. Mythic seemed to be oblivious (perhaps just stubborn) to a lot of the things that people were concerned about and over time it cost them a great number of subscribers.

EDIT: Hmm, according to Hardware Secrets, the engine should be running at 400 MHz and the memory at 1GHz. The engine is at 400 MHz and the memory is at 1000 MHz, which I think is what the site says.
