I don't actually get bored of healing. I'm perfectly happy sticking to the back, healing anyone who comes my way who hasn't been overhealed. The only problem is, I don't know the best times to hit the Ubercharge. Help me, veterans - when is generally the best time to hit it? Who are the best applicants? In wide spaces I tend to favour the Heavy or Soldier, and in close quarters I zone in on a Pyro to Ubercharge, is that right and okay? The tipping factor is the number of enemies - sometimes two enemies versus the one Heavy/Soldier/Pyro I'm healing at the time is enough to make me think "Yeah, Ubercharge time" but what works for you lot?

    in priority order:
    1. [strike]when it is pipthefair[/strike]
    2. when you are about to die
    3. when the person you are healing says so
    4. when the person you are healing suddenly drops in health
    5. when the person you are healing is fully reloaded, fully healed, and ready to kill people that are near
    6. when you are near to combat, see combat, or get a gut feeling that someting might happen
    7. when you feel like it

some general rules: better too early than too late, better to save yourself than to die without using your uber, the responsibility is more on them to make the most of the ubercharge, and you can always get another ubercharge if it fails first time.

nobody should blame you for bestowing them with a minute+ of your hard work of being credit to team, so it's really up to you to decide to pop it, unless they say they would like it earlier.

remember to uber demos as well, and pyros can be frightening ubered but can often bring you right into a suicide charge because of their close combat nature. don't be afraid to use the last few drops to run away. ubering the best combat class on the scoreboard is important, and so is ubering others- though less frequently. i try not to make others feel like i'm negelecting them because they aren't as good as pip.

it's very easy to get lost assessing the tactical "best" time, place, and class to use an ubercharge but the fact of the matter is that if you pop it you won't do anyone any harm and you might do a lot of good.

So, hypothetical - if an Engineer is setting up a sentry/dispenser and may or may not be in cover (or may just be somewhere that the enemy has a lot of access to), is it okay to Uber them to protect them while they build their death robots?

You Engineers confuse the crap out of me. :P

Uh, maybe? I can't remember the last time I ubered an engineer out of choice and not desperation. It's not like the uber protects the buildings and if they explode then the engineer may as well, too.

In short, that would be a terribly low priority uber.

I am noting all of this shit down. Pretty much when it comes to online multiplayer I've gone past the phase of "I'll do whatever is fun for me" to "I'll do whatever helps out the team, and I will make it fun for me in some way." Engineer near the bottom of the Uber priority list? Gotcha.:^:

One of the greatest uses for a defensive counter uber (at least before the leafblower stole the spotlight) is to target the engineer behind the sentry that's getting attacked and block the sentry from damage with your body.

Probably a Bad Idea, as their death robots will still not be in cover, and probably easily blown up. Leaving you with an ubered engineer who was building fruitlessly instead of using his temporary godliness to kill many mans with his 300% crit wrench.

    PAX tf2 tournament

gonna try to assemble a team. last year a pretty scrubby team took it.

if you're going to PAX this year and are interested, let me know

i am tiny lobsta on steam.

There were no teams last year, you signed up and they randomly placed you on a team. Is that changing this year?

I'm pretty sure there were teams last year.

Yeah, thinking about it, the way they stated the rules was unclear and everyone thought there would be no teams till we got there. In any case, I'm totally up for a team. It's 6v6, three of the maps are non-standard (yukon, follower, freight), and of those, only freight is in any of the PA servers.

Follower is on the HoNC, actually.

I meant to say in standard rotation. However I haven't been to HonC as much as I used to, so it very well may be standard there.

those are all standard competitive play maps, so i know them fairly well

it looks like this year they want only full teams to sign up, which is why i'm doing this ahead of time. i know there's enough people from the pa tf2 community going, i just don't know how many want to participate in a tournament.

I'll be at pax and this sounds like it'll be a lot of fun. It shouldn't take more than a few hours, right?

It took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to train myself to be a bullet sponge when ubering as a medic.

I learned the "soak sentry hits to deal with pushback" pretty quick, but it's so hard to build up the reactions to jump into the line of fire.

oh yeah, i'm talking about me, since i have my own server! 8-)

i'm in this to win (and have fun, of course) though

i've participated in a tournament in every PAX, and the team i'm on generally loses (except for HL2: DM, where i came in 3rd woo woo)

so you'll have to excuse me if i come off as being a bit srs business about this, but i'm tired of losing!

so i mean, if you guys are down to kick some azz, send me a PM/a message on steam. i'll start us a group. there is a very decent possibility there are more than 6 PAers interested in being on the team, so please, if you're one of the people that isn't picked, it's nothing personal - purely just in the interest of class organization. 6v6 teams are very specific.
