Question of switching jobs

So here’s the deal.
I work at a desk job for Company A. It’s a good paying job, gets the bills covered and keeps food on the table… the downside is… I’m miserable. I’ve worked for Company A for 9 years, 4 months and 17 days (as of August 6th) and ever since I took a desk job instead of being out on the floor lugging heavy shit around it’s just gone progressively downhill.

Now… Company A rents office spare from Company B… Company B has a job posting up on their wall for a shipper / receiver that looks damn appealing.
I spoke with their floor foreman and they have no issue with me applying for it, the wage is almost the same (like maybe 80$ a pay cheque difference, but it’s not salary like I am currently in) and it looks like something I would enjoy…

HOWEVER…

I don’t want to cause friction between the two companies and I don’t want to leave my boss at Company A high and dry. My current boss is a great guy, just the job sucks.

Would I be a douche to give up the job with Company A and then work with Company B?

I mean, I know I have to make myself happy first, but honestly… would this be bad mojo?

I can't think of anything clever.

    I'd say go for it.

Bosses are people too and leaving on good terms is not impossible.

Do what's in your own best interest. Just make sure you give 2 weeks notice. Don't give more, nothing worse than someone who says they are quitting then hangs around for two months.

The only reason your current boss would have a right to be upset is if the company invested in your education or something like that. And if they are that concerned about losing you they can make a counter offer.

I know how hard it can be to leave a shitty job when you like the people, but you gotta take care of yourself in a situation like this.

    Go for it.

If you boss is in fact a great guy, he isn't going to take your leaving the company as a personal affront - business is business. If your company wants to try to keep you, they'll make you an offer, and even then there still shouldn't be any hard feelings if you leave.

You say the pay is pretty close, what about benefits?

    Very important to consider.

You're at your job more than any other one place in your life. There's no way in hell you should ever be working somewhere you don't like. Sacrificing your quality of life isn't worth a few extra bucks or the off chance of pissing your boss off.

At the very worst, he gets pissed off for a few day/weeks. You feel bad initially and then you both get over it and bingo you've got a job you like. If you stay, nothing will ever get better.
