Let's Play Way of the Samurai (s07: The 6 Bs 09/18)
Side with the Akadama (red guys). They have cool people you can ally with, and their story path isn't overly difficult except for one part (which thankfully you can't die at).
Plus if any of them *happen* to die... you get their swords... which makes future play throughs easier. Or you can betray them, up to you.
The civilians are honestly a bunch of sissies, screw em. You can just totally ignore Suzie getting kidnapped...
So, I may record tonight.
Which should I go for? Should I join the Akadama? How would I go about that? Ignore the chick and go for neutral? SO MANY CHOICES

The true/best ending of the game really is awesome and I hope you show it off! Plus you should also show off the different sword styles in the game. Maybe one video you use one style, while another vid you use another. The ninja sword style is odd as hell.
edit: oh yeah forgot to say but kaseius you are awesome for lp'ing this game.
You can do anything you like during the day if you want to work for Akadama, but when it turns sunset you have to be careful not to trigger any other events, even if it means taking the long way around. In other words, if it turns evening, and you initiate the incident with the old man being bullied, you can't work for Akadama that evening.

This game really sounds like a lesson in learning. I might end up having to skip or fast forward some stuff so we don't see the intro like 20 times, it seems like..

Having played through this game 15 times(because I messed up getting the best ending a lot by missing subtle things), I will say that once you get the hang of the fighting mechanics you really feel awesome.
Hmmm, as for my favorite weapon, it was the older's guys son's(the two main clans). It had a nice mix of speed and power.

Yup, ground hog day it is. "Just put your little hand in mine..."

I think the lesson learnt so far is don't follow the Way of the Douchebag.
You could do with taking the tutorial on combat, you should be blocking and I think pushing away from them so that they stumble and open themselves up to your attacks. Eventually you should become good enough that noone will get a hit in.
And that red bar is the durability of your sword, if it hits max it shatters a bar, break them all and the sword is dead.
There are other little tricks such as awase that are useful in a pinch as well.
But really, the epic failure is what makes WOTS great. If you stick with it though, you end up a badass with a 50+ sword collection that will obliterate half of Japan.
One last tip, the FIRST really good sword you get? Go to the blacksmith and have it delivered. You can do it once per game, and it helps you make slow but sure progress.
If you go to the Foundry on the first day, ignoring Suzie and everyone else, you get the opportunity to fight 100 weak enemies if you pick a fight. It's a great place to level up swords and collect powerups.
For money, just work for Korou. They pay like gangbusters.
This is actually my favourite game ever, I know that it wasn't too popular over here (UK) it's awesome to see a thread about it.
Despite me being terrible at it, it's getting pretty high up on the awesome charts for me. I really like basically everything about it. Except that I suck.
Also, if anyone knows much about capturing video footage and how to reduce the effects of interlaced video, I would love to know your tricks. Progressive encoding works but not very well.
Kaseius, no offence but you are terrible at this game. Ive never seen someone make so many choices that result in their death so quickly in a game before.
Hehe, Kaseius, some people can't truly appreciate how hard it is to make sure that all of the videos of a set roughly get put up together. I'm glad your videos got put up in about a two hour span.
You've got the basics down now but you really need to master blocking and I'm pretty sure you can strafe/dodge, you really need to learn this because most main characters will break your blocks, fuck your sword up, etc, etc. I'm also pretty sure that at the start by the bridge you can go right, not over the bridge but into another zone. You need to go kill a few people out in that mid-zone where the blacksmith was, try to boost your money and swords or you're going to keep struggling.

Maybe one of these days, I'll just upload like, part 7 of a huge set, which is the credits. And then wait a week for the rest.

I tend to just upload over night so I can say, hey wow, new set.
Anyway, excellent set, teaches you to be sure who someone is before you try to murder them.

You just need training!
B:L's FUN-Dementals of Sword Fighting 101!
Lesson 1: HEALING
The very first thing you should note before ever going into battle is... where's the nummers? You can do one thing that your opponent's usually don't. HEAL. By running away honorably and kicking up some shrooms or radishes or even cheese, you'll essentially have a longer lifebar. Win via attrition!
Lesson 2: Spacing
Learn the range of your attacks and your opponent's attacks. Your character with the default sword has a move that steps back and then stabs forward. It dodges short range attacks easily and delivers a pretty damaging blow. Keep yourself moving and learn how far it reaches, then unleash it when you're in range and they're about to attack.
Lesson 3: Training
Power up your techniques! Basically, the more you use a move, the more likely it is to become improved. Take the stab I mentioned, for example. Once you use it enough, it becomes a DOUBLE STAB, which is definitely niftier when it comes to damage. The lifting uppercut slash does plenty of damage too when it becomes a double uppercut slash. Abuse one move over and over until it becomes better!
That's it for today. Try it out and see how much better you'll survive against the raw danger of the Meiji Era!

Maybe he should do the tutorial? :P
Did it offscreen.
BL
Yeah, I need to also learn how to use moves better as well.
I've only played this game three times though, guys. Like, less than an hour. Give me some time.

Doing the 100 enemy fight is also a great way to build up skill and stats.
It's always hard starting off in this game. The main thing is you should really be avoiding fighting the main characters if you can avoid it. Your starter sword isn't good until you've learned the moves for it. What you should do to give yourself an easy time is...
Ignore Suzie in the beginning. Go to the foundry. Pick a fight with the guard on duty. This will trigger a special event. You are NOT penalized for killing people here. You will get to fight 100 weak guards. Fight as long as you please and leave before you die, you should have earned some yen and powerups. You should also pick up the swords of everyone you kill. If they're named, keep them, if they're dull, discard them. You can only carry THREE swords at a time. Also, you DO start the game with 5 yen.
Go back to the village and trigger the event with Shiretoko busting up the bar. Don't fight him, just LEAVE the worthless civilians. Go towards the railroad. It should be SUNSET now.
NOW go to the Akadama residence. Kitcho will be there and the next phase of the story will begin. An event will happen, you will probably fail it but you won't die. After the event PICK UP the sword of the character who dies. Take that sword and either have it worked on or delivered at the blacksmith.
From there, take it as you like it. But that should help you get past the beginning hump. There's also no shame in playing this game on easy until you start collecting better swords and start learning the fighting mechanics more.
Don't bother blocking if you can avoid it. Always DODGE if you can.
I love this game to death. I must have played it a hundred times back when it came out. Once you get a hang of the combat system, and things just *click*, it's immensely satisfying to slice fools up. IMO there hasn't been a better sword-fighting game since the original Bushido Blade.
My favorite weapon was the giant saw. There was a move where you slash your opponent in the shoulder and saw them to the ground. It's awesome.

Some sets will probably run together. I usually aim for 30m of playing, but sometimes I get a little bit ahead of myself and run for like 70m.
Usually when you're trying to rush through a game :P
Go with the way.
Of the samurai.
Yeah, I think we could probably change usually to "only" and you'd still be correct. Stupid games..
Steambot and Jaws..

I thought it was a Bruce Lee tribute.
Is Dona Dona the same as Sheriff Donald from Samurai Western?
Same universe.
So not really.

The Meiji Era and the Cowboy Era coincide, so it's entirely possible that Sheriff Donald went to Japan and became Dona Dona.
I never asked for this!
It.. uh.. it didn't really go according to keikaku. Things went pretty horrible, actually.
Just as planned.
I'm not sure of anything Kaseius has done that went according to plan :P
Regardless, I look forward to the set.
