I've been seeing Dead State on Steam's front page for the past few days, so when I noticed a thread here, I clicked on it only to be surprised it was started in 2009. Holy development hell, Batman!
Has anyone tried it? I'm hoping it's turned out to be great.
Have it but haven't played a lot due to lack of time... Old school Fallout vibes for sure, looks like there is great scope for development of your base and characters.
Haven't seen any of the story yet but I am cautiously optimistic.
Last time I checked this thread was when President Obama had black hair, excited for this but distracted by page 2 comments about turning a Zoo into a fortress/farm/pasture.
I backed it during the Kickstarter and got it fairly cheap. I'll take a look when I get around to it(aka not at 2:30 AM) and see how things are looking.

Despite backing the kick starter I'm not super interested in playing beta versions of single player games. Possibly this just shows how I am an unwise backer
Still looking forward to it being released though
Homogeneous distribution of your varieties of amuse-gueule
I'm 50/50 so far. While I understand it is a large game, the sheer length of time it's been in development makes some obvious mistakes concerning. Such as a character who appears at the gate being usable in your party and hanging out, outside well before he wakes up from his coma in the storyline, and unlike something like Bloodlines, it's never easy to tell if there are new dialog options or special options, since the full dialog tree will just be presented when you speak to someone again.
I do appreciate the crisis moments and the ability to upgrade the base, but at the minute it seems like something that would get old fast since the goals are less clear, and the interface isn't straightforward in what you have and what you need.
Hi everyone! I hope you’ve been enjoying playing the Beta. We’re super grateful for all the feedback and bug reports that have been pouring in - you guys are totally awesome! You also did a fantastic job working together to identify potential causes of a couple major bugs, which helped us track them down and resolve them a lot quicker.
This first update addresses the biggest issues you guys reported, fixes various miscellaneous issues, tweaks balance, and extends a couple of features.
Here’s what’s new and/or improved in this build:
-- Fixed save corruption issue - this was related to save data for AI behaviors being doubled with each save. This should also fix some reported character combat lag.
-- Fixed return to shelter crash - thanks to the community, we discovered this was time zone-related and the game now uses its own internal clock independent of PC clock.
-- Adjusted lootlists for balance.
-- Added additional Leadership commands.
-- Added new AI behaviors and AI behavior fixes.
-- Memorial Wall can now be unlocked (but it only shows placeholder entries right now).
-- Suggestion Box can now be unlocked (but it only shows placeholder entries right now).
-- Added AC bonus from Vigor stat.
-- Fixed various dialogue issues.
-- Added various new dialogues.
-- Fixed blocking issues and exits for several levels.
-- Performed loot passes on motel levels.
-- Fixed various misc. art issues.
-- Implemented perk selection GUI art.
-- Implemented various shelter-related GUI art, including art for the shelter return summary and time passage on job board.
-- Fixed issue where players couldn’t max out weight through group trade interface.
-- Fixed a bug where damage resistance reported negative numbers.
-- Fixed a bug where the GO! command removed characters from the combat queue.
-- Added chainsaw sounds.
-- Added a few new levels and a couple new allies.
-- Finished the Allies portion of the Goals screen so you can now get more information - some data is not fully implemented yet, however.
-- Added pepper spray miss sound.
-- Fixed and “softened” level borders so that camera is less likely to get stuck behind them.
-- Added undead mobbing functionality - you’ll find the undead are scarier in groups now.
-- Added fishing pole item and fixed fishing bug - now you can catch all the fish your heart desires!
-- Added location unlocks from listening to the radio - I hope you’re tuning in every day...
-- Fixed an issue with the undead continuing to feast after a character stood up.
-- Fixed some issues with wall line-of-sight and wall positioning.
-- Tall fences now block LOS and attacks.
-- Fixed issues with dialogue overlap in crisis events.
-- Fixed some issues with existing perks and perk functionality.
As we move forward, we’ll continue to address game-breaking issues as top priorities, as well as add some new features, address problems with existing systems, add more critical path content, and continue loot passes, combat passes, and scripting on existing levels. Let us know what you’d most like to see in an upcoming patch and we’ll see what we can do!
Looks like they're getting close to release now. I was just looking at this earlier; I don't really feel like playing the unfinished game, but I REALLY want to play the finished game.
I've been burned too many times recently; I'm waiting until its been out for a couple of weeks, the major day 0 bugs are fixed, and everyone in here is raving about how great it is before I commit.

I'm not going to get my hopes up on a release anytime soon. I'm guessing February 2015.
I backed it during Kickstarter so I got it for like half of what the Steam price is. I'm still holding off until release before I actually play it though.
I mostly blame him trying to bum devs off the Age of Decadence people (which I'm also not convinced is ever coming out). If he'd gotten it out before the zombie craze peaked, it problably would be easier to overlook it's copious shortcomings
I never thought this day would come, but the release is tomorrow!
Huzzah! Perhaps a new thread from an unbanned forumer is in order? (Just putting it out there. I am not the fellow for this particular new thread need at the moment.)
Game is released, but there is also supposed to be a day 1 patch tomorrow to fix some bugs. I'm thinking I'll still hop in tonight if I have time. Reviews seem good.
I've been keeping half an eye on this game, because on the one hand, hey one of the writers of Bloodlines works on this. But on the other hand, so goddamn tired of zombies.
Think I'll wait until the reviews start showing up.

Sounds great, when you put it that way.

Any indication of when that will be?

Whoop, never mind, thought this was State of Decay :P
I played through the original campaign of State of Decay, and I don't think XCOM+zombies would be the words I used to describe it.
I'm probably going to wait for release on this one. I'm eager to hear if the beta is good though. In a spoiler-free way of course.

Hence me asking for PA user reviews.
Still looking forward to it being released though
We are an entire thread of horrible.
Hopefully the addition of the base building mechanics and the actual storyline will help alleviate it a bit

You have a good point... Xcom is already Xcom + Zombies.

EDIT: For reference, this thread started in 2009.
Don't I know it. *scowls*

Ohmy. Really? Haven't been following it as closely as I used to.
Exciting news! Really good to see the Steam reviews I've just been nosing through for the last few mins are overwhelmingly positive too!
Sweet. There should be a new build for tomorrow (I assume), so hopefully they don't break everything.
First world problems...
