Yep. Probably my favorite follower. Although not the one I intend to be sexing up.
As for why, that is, of course, up to the marketing guys. Thane and Grunt both showed really well. I dunno if the salarian will get more than a blurb pre-release, because he is (and here I avoid spoilers) a character who may not translate well to a thirty second video clip. For those vids, you need somebody who is either mysterious and flashy (Thane) or straighforward and flashy (Grunt). Not all characters are going to be like that. And, well, you guys know salarians at this point. Unless we show him lighting himself on fire and hugging people to death with radioactive salarian flames, the famed execution method of the flame-retardant Lystheni, people are going to go, "Wow, a salarian. Who, as part of your party, will obviously have a gun. How... expected."
What I'm saying is that he's a Salarian Mixed Martial Arts Buddhist Protester.
Wait so if I were to set a salarian on fire his flames would produce radioactivity surrounding him? Then at the cost of his/her life I could send them on an enemy to give them radiation poisoning AND burn them?
So why has there been no media on Salarian Clint Eastwood yet? I know none of the guys that post here actually make the call of what goes out, but perhaps a few sly hints are in order to the appropriate parties?
I seem to remember takyris admitting that he had written most of the dialogue for the salarian a thread or two ago.

ME1 love interests will be involved somehow. We simply do not know in what way (short of Tali) anybody from ME1 will be involved with ME2. In some of the videos released, there is footage of Shepard riding in a hovercar talking to an asari which was confirmed to be Liara and that it was because of decisions Shepard made in ME1. The inference is the love interest plot, but again, they never specifically confirmed the nature of it.
Thats not liara, it isn't even the same voice actress nor does it even look like her, you do however
see liara on the Normandy while it's getting blown up in one of the dev videos and another report mentioned the same scene but with space hitler instead.
The biggest letdown about ME1 were the slow downs and texture pop-ins. If that's fixed, I'm going to have a blast with this sequel.
It's fixed in the PC version.
It's better on the PC.
It's fixed in ME2
I'm actually working with one of the lead programmers right now on a seperate code branch that would speed up level and savegame load times even more as well

Copying ME1 to the 360 HDD makes it 'better'. Pop-in and low res textures are still there, but not nearly as bad as they are whilst streaming from the disc. ME1 was still fun, too.

What are you talking about. All I remember from ME1 was pop-in and elevators.
well, it was a little hard to get the gist of what was going on story wise due to it being freaking loud, my lack of headphones, and my inability to turn subtitles on
it started out with that scene that we've all seen a hundred times, you're in a flying car with an asari, talking about maybe killing or not killing this uh, person. (I'm not trying to be intentionally vague I just don't remember all the details) Then after that you are placed in the shit, making your way down this corridor with your two guys, one of whom is a black man and one of whom looks sorta like ashley but probably isnt? You guys probably know more about these guys than me! The Shepard we were playing as was pretty clearly a soldier or a part-soldier class of some sort, he had heavy adrenaline boost and unity and this power I'd never seen before called heavy concussive shot, which does about what it sounds like it does. you had your standard weapon setup, pistol shotty snipey assault rifle, but there was also this rocket launcher thing that seemed to have limited ammo, or at least some sort of ammo counter. once you punched through those assholes you meet up with an asari who thinks you want to kill her, and you can say maybe I do or no I don't or interrupt her (which I did not get to try, dammit) but whatever you do this fish lookin' guy busts through a vent and kills her and her whole posse. then you have a brief conversation with him (I'm pretty sure he'll join your party at some point) and then the demo ends
very intriguing if the soldier gets more weapon-based powers
They fucking need it, cosideing how little variety the Soldier had in ME. I was basically invincible when I played as a Soldier but dear Lord, it sure was dull. The moment I unlocked the different weapon types for the other classes I quit playing my Soldier Shepard and went for an Adept with the Assault Rifle skill and had a goddamn blast.
A question for you ME1 vets: What's the best biotic power to use as a bonus talent for a soldier? I'm tending towards Singularity, as it's the rarest and most damaging multi-enemy talent. Does anyone have any other info to support/refute this?

I've considered lift, but given that it's basically a one-use-per-fight thing, I don't really see the point. Plus, people caught in the singularity field get lifted.
I prefer Lift as well. It'll hit more than one enemy, and has a longer duration than singularity.
For Insanity, ...uh...I'm blanking on the damn name...the ability that does damage over time and increases vulnerability to damage...yeah, that one, I like for all the bastards who pop Immunity.
If you're doing insanity warp helps a lot for a soldier. Take squadmates to give you the biotic/engineer skills you need. Your points as a soldier are really better focused in your profession skills like fitness/soldier/weapons, etc.
With just one point in warp you have a handy debuff you can toss out any time and just keep doing what soldiers should be doing: Shooting shit.
But if it's between singularity and lift, I've got to vote for lift. Singularity looks fancy but in practice I've always found lift to be far more useful and strategic.
Though, again, I use my squadmates for my biotics on my soldier. I only took warp for the single point.
Soldier is pretty good as long as you bring along the right squad mates.
I played through with a soldier on my first run with Garrus and Tali. I'd have them both use overload and sabotage then blow them away with assault or sniper fire.

Well, I wouldn't give a Soldier a biotic power anyway(because of lack of a amp). But if you must, I would go with lift. Singularity won't be as all-out destructive as it should be when your character is amped but Lift maxed will still be pretty useful.

If you're going for damage increases, don't forget about Electronics. It doesn't have quite as much of an increase in damage as Warp, but it lasts longer, does more upfront damage, has a lower accuracy cost, and is easier to aim.
I'd probably still go with Warp or Lift, but it's worth considering.

About halfway through my second playthrough on Hardcore with an Infiltrator Shepherd. Never really paid much attention to the tech skills or the sniper rifle on my first playthrough, but hot damn are they a lot of fun. Liara will toss them around and throw them up in the air, while Wrex or Ashley lay on some fire. I just stay back, ruin their shields and weapons and pop them off at will.
I'm hoping the squad direction mechanics are a bit better this time around. I'd like my paper-thin biotic to take cover while my tank absorbs enemy attacks. Instead of how it is now, where Liara is killed two minutes while rushing towards a Krogan with Ashley. Ooooooops.

Separate commands for squadmates would actually be pretty welcome.
Because, I too have had Tali run up and try to melee Krogans. Sadly, it always ended in failure.
Once I charged a Krogan with my Vanguard just to see what would happen, for the longest time I didn't even know you could melee enemies and I wanted to see what it was like.
And, much like waterboarding, now that I have experienced it for myself I can speak about it authoritatively.
I think it would be neat if I could have my team hunker down and sketch out a plan of attack on an area, complete with independent squad member movement and entry- and waypoints. Enter here, go this way, when you reach here: Use Sabotage. You come from this direction and cast Lift and I, entering from here, will cast Warp and shoot them all down.
I don't actually know why I mention that, I don't expect it at all and it's a pretty long way to reach from the original Mass Effect. I think I just like the idea of converging on a group from different directions and really being the enemies everywhere.

PC has this already, so if it's not in ME2 360 then it'll at least be in ME2 PC.

They've confirmed that it's in ME2 360. The statement which I'm way too tired to look up right now is to the effect of "we're building both games at the same time, we learned a lot from the ME PC port and both games will have identical squad controls.".
That's obviously not verbatim, but aside from the hotkeys on the PC version because of the keyboard, the actual character/squad management in battles are supposed to be the same on the two versions.
Once I charged a Krogan with my Vanguard just to see what would happen, for the longest time I didn't even know you could melee enemies and I wanted to see what it was like.

My Vanguard playthrough on insanity? I meleed the shit out of every dude. Because I was in a hurry to save the universe and did not have time to patiently shoot geth.
It's fun and also an effective way of quickly removing a combatant from the fight for a few seconds while you handle more important krogans, er, more important "things".
Alternately you can just melee them down and keep beating them while they're down with your weapon stock and feel good about slowly beating to death your enemies in a humiliating fashion.
Your choice.
EDIT: Anyway back to the discussion of what bonus skill a soldier should take: If you're not playing on insanity (or to a lesser degree hardcore) then honestly it makes no difference at all. The game is so easy at veteran or below that your skills are more flavor than anything. A soldier, with trained whatever weapon on normal can clear a whole room in seconds tops, it would take you longer to open the skill menu, target, and use than it would to just open up with the AR and take out everyone.
So unless you're planning on also using that soldier for a harder playthrough, don't sweat it and take what you want. If you have a boner for singularity, go for it. Hell, even on insanity it's not going to hurt you to take one skill over another as a bonus skill. You are fully equipped as a soldier to handle anything that comes your way with or without them. I agree with santa from way back a few weeks ago when he said that he wishes they didn't force you to take a bonus skill because honestly looking back as useful as warp is on a krogan now and then on insanity, that single point could have just as easily been put into another skill and I never would have noticed not having it.

Soldier doesn't get enough love.
Soldier was my go to class in ME1. Meant that my runthrough was like an RPG verison of Gears of War.
I played through with a soldier on my first run with Garrus and Tali. I'd have them both use overload and sabotage then blow them away with assault or sniper fire.
Krogan Battlemasters and Warlords getting launched off elevator shafts make their own argument, Ed.

Oh god, I'm getting flashbacks to the vocal loop of that in ME.
I'm actually sad that takyris has mounted a campaign to prevent any trace of enemies everywhere from appearing in Mass Effect 2.
