So I, or rather my parents as was my previous address, got this in the mail last week. Now, I did work for Blockbuster, and the date of 3/17/06 was shortly after I left there. I just want to make sure I'm not falling for a quick $50 that ends up screwing me over for anything. The number on the bottom is legit, or at least the automated message leads me to believe. Couldn't find anything immediately when I googled the Payroll address, or "Blockbuster notice funds", but maybe I just suck at google-fu. Anyways, the few flags that went off in my head for "I am owed moneys from a job 3 years ago" are starting to die down, I'm just wondering if anyone else noticed something, or if this is common, or whathaveyou.

Honestly I'd call Blockbuster up about it, I'm sure they'd be able to tell you if it's legit.

Start calling blockbuster numbers and ask for the payroll department. You've got two different phone numbers right there plus anything you can find online to provide backup. You also have a specific address that you should be able to search on google and/or get a phone number for. You may even be able to contact the BBB or Chamber of Commerce in Dallas, TX or the same in Spartanburg, SC to see if they can confirm any of the information for you.

'Kay. Definitely do this tomorrow. Also, think I might call the old store I worked at, see if any of the employees still there know anything about it.

This looks like a fairly legit business escheatment process, they must do what they can to try and return any excess funds in an account in your name to you by law. 3 years seems like a long time for them to keep a credit balance, but laws vary by state I suppose, at my old work we used to do it couple times a year but I forget how long the inactivity on the account was, it might have been as long as years I guess.

So yeah, it would be safer to go into an office with regard to SSN, as always, so maintain caution but this isn't particularly unusual if the other factors add up.
