I haven't seen this movie in YEARS, and it was one of my favorites as a small child. Over the years I've browsed store shelves for it and never found it, and finally my husband did a more extensive search for it online the other day. Apparently it's not in print anymore... anywhere... ever. The only trace of it is IMDb, where people have congregated to lament its absence.

My question is, does anyone have any other idea where I might find this? It's a non-Disney animated film, and one of those things billed for children because nobody over the age of 10 watched cartoons back then, but containing adult themes.

Honestly, I don't think I even expect anyone here to have heard of it, but perhaps someone will know where I might find this sort of thing? It can't just be gone forever.

edit: I think I might have found it on eBay.. the images from the movie look like I remember. It's a VHS-to-DVD transfer, but it would have to be because there were no DVDs then, and a tape would be falling apart.. If it's essentially abandonware, is this legal?

A quick google search pulled this op on the video section. It looks to be the whole thing:

I think I have this movie on Beta MAX. It's pretty old.

If you're talking about the one where the guy walks into a gaming shop and then rides a magical die into fantasy land the title was Flight of Dragons as I recall. I remember vaguely looking for this video myself awhile back and discovered that there's a different movie called Flight of the Dragons.

Maybe someday, they'll see a hero's just a man. Who knows he's free.

Oh my goodness it IS the whole thing. <3

I spent so many hours watching this movie.. my parents taped it, and it was one of my favorites... then at some point they lost the tape and I was pretty crushed. I tore the house apart looking for it, too. I think my mom might have accidentally taped over it and not had the nerve to tell me, because tapes don't just disappear.

I was a very stubborn child.

Lando, that's the one. I'm finding The Flight of Dragons as well.. I'm not sure why I remember it so well as Flight of the Dragon. I didn't know there was another movie.

If it is flight of dragons movie I've seen it on television recently. It was on Cartoon Network here in the UK a couple of times last year. That's not really helpful.

I'm glad somebody still airs it, anyway. It was really a great movie.

There are various "Hard to Find Video" places you might try. Here's one that has a movie by that name, but the description field is blank, so you'd need to talk to them to make sure its the same movie.

I always had mixed feelings about the ending.. I think that's one of the things that made it so great. Any story that gives a kid something other than "Yay bad guy is dead"/"Boo good guy is dead" is probably a plus these days.

I remember this! The funny thing is that I've been thinking about this movie lately and I couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called.

I do remember the ending of the movie being rather...ambiguous. The good guys win, but only sort of as they still watch their way of life die out. It was a very sad "yay!"

Out of curiosity, was this animated by the same company that made The Hobbit?

Also, word for the wise, from someone who grew up with this movie: If you do manage to snag a copy, get the VHS version and convert it to digital yourself, as the DVD re-release apparently went to editing hell.

Haha, I remember this being one of my favorites when I was a kid too, when I made my bf watch it a few years ago though his reaction was, "What the hell is this?"

I think the guy I ended up getting it from made the VHS-to-DVD transfer himself, so we'll see what happens. I'll let you guys know. :)

I still think of Gorebash as the difinitive design for a dragon. I freaking loved this movie as a kid. Taped it on cartoon network when I was like 6 and probably watched it 50+ times.

Is this the movie where an elder dragon teaches a younger dragon how to fight giants and the giants are immune to fire breath?

I caught that one scene on Cartoon Network and have not been able to figure out the movie since then.

Hehe, I'm kind of the same. The Last Unicorn is another favorite of mine.. I've since read the book, and the book is better, and I think that might have taken away a bit from the movie for me.

If you liked the film you may also want to read the series of books it was based on.
