Hey thanks guys I was wondering if some of you could even manage to misinterpret such a straight-forward installment.

I don't think Gabe's dumb enough to make the left to right arm error.

It looks too much like rain/dirt on the window to me, coupled with the folds of his jacket.

They're just bad tangents if anything, but I doubt it's a continuity error as stupid as that.

keep is one of those words that quickly turns into a bizarre, meaningless sound if you think about it too much

    like every other word ever

    that's why i specified "quickly"

some words are more susceptible than others, and keep strikes me as one of them

probably because it is a pretty weird word to begin with, starting with a k double vowel and all

    Stop being so kooky.

I really liked Automata, although I wish there was an actual resolution to the incident, instead of them just going home.

Loved this series. Last panel would make a great wallpaper or poster or something.

Still think the first page might be my favorite. Just have a thing for wordplay. Still, the minimalism in this one is appreciated.

What a way to end the run of comics, very sad and stark and really begs the question, can robots be lonely?

So glad that G&T put this out and I really hope they do more with Automata in the future.

Carl looks so....sad in that last panel. I guess that makes no sense because he's a robot, but the whole panel just seems sort of devoid of hope.

    It's fantastic.

So on a moderately related note, Becky responded to my note about Lookouts. She said they were right next to the PA booth at Comic Con and had lots of people stop by to say how much they enjoyed it.

Also that PA fans are "very loud"

oh man. more of these please.

Can we agree that Automata took the lookouts home, gave it Jesus Juice, bent it over and whispered in their ear that if they told anyone they'd be taken away from their mommy and daddy and be in big trouble?

And I thought the Lookouts was great!

I think he ment that Carl cannot express his emotions the same way a human can; happy or sad he looks the same.

This series has really reminded me in tone and, obviously at least a little in subject matter, of my favorite samurai jack episode, where one of Aku's retired robot detectives comes out of retirement for "one last job", and then ends up getting trashed. Just as depressing and yet really well done.

It's easy to forget how seriously difficult it is to design a robot face that's physically neutral but also potentially emotional. C-3PO is a good example, maybe Iron Man as well. Carl's face fits this description as well - I wonder how long it took to come up with the design.

It would be pretty awesome if Gabe threw up some of the concept sketches onto the news page like he did for the Lookouts one-sheet.

Emmerich: These tics, as you call them - "memetics," in actual fact - are little notions that pass through the autonomous community. Have you ever yawned, and then...

Teddy: (laughter) Yeah, I'm yawning right now, Doc.

Emmerich: Have you ever yawned, and another person seems to catch it?

    Teddy: So what?

Emmerich: That's typically the extent of these "tics." A minor, wholly benign, involuntary effect. They run their course, and are gone. They catch them as we might catch a cold, apparently out of the air, but the means of transmission is different: an errant bit of radio static, or... the twinkling of a Chrismas tree...
