I need more Cannon Fodder

I was sitting here and suddenly I was stricken with the need to play some Cannon Fodder.

For anyone not in the know, you can read this the wikipedia HERE.

Cannon Fodder was a staple in my childhood. I loved that game and now I come to you with a question G&T

Is there anything similar to this game made in a more recent time frame? I need more of this gameplay and I need it now!

If there isn't, this is a Cannon Fodder appreciation thread!

Hmm, Darwinia/Multiwinia have a bit in common with them.

    YES

    CANNON FODDER

    loved that game.

Darwinia is very much a recent reincarnation of that awesome game. Buy it IMMEDIATELY (it's on Steam!)

Multiwinia shares Darwinia's setting but the gameplay is completely different.

Posting to agree that Darwinia is pretty much cannon fodder, or atleast the closet thing you can get to it. I fucking love this game and still boot it up occasionally when I dont want to play all my shiny new games

I was sorting through my old atari games yesterday and came across the cannon fodder manual. That game was awesome. Unfortunately the atari is totally kaput, so i couldn't play it. D:

Haha I remember this game. I got it when I was a kid for $1 in a bin at Sam's Club. Hard as tits for a kid, as were most games when I was young.

Commandos was much more stealth/strategy based. Both good fun though. The last Commandos was pretty tedious though, i spent most of my time waiting for patrols to move their asses out of my way.

    It's available on gog.com for $5.99

I also second Darwinia, I played the hell out of that game and enjoyed it greatly.

You are pure evil, and hate personified. You don't care anything about your fellow man, and are guided only by your desire to rule over your inferiors, i.e. everybody but you. 'Mercy,' you ask, prior to grinding an enemy beneath your mighty heel, 'What is mercy?'
    Take the quiz!

War has never been so much fun.

I noticed a rather shameless looking clone on the iPhone but I've avoided trying it.

The reason I started programming back then is because I pretty much wanted to work for a company as awesome as sensible software when I grew up. Unfortunately it turned out to not be such a sustainable way to make games, particularly not if you are writing all your code in assembly on a dying platform.

That has to be one of the best game intro's of all time.

Yep, it was on the original Amiga version at least. It also took up a whole disk on its own, with the game on disk 2.

Haha. I guess maybe it wasn't on the atari version. I certainly don't remember there being more than one disk.

Did anybody else try and get at least one of your early soldiers as promoted as possible by leaving him at the start of the mission and doing everything with the remaining grunts?

I played World War 1 style, it seems - Jools at the back sipping tea, sending endless privates to punji stake doom.

    Untrue!

Return Fire is in fact the most fun war game to play!

Yeah, I think they had it on the PC demo but then dropped it for the PC retail as well.

And then did the FMV version for the CD32.

No, I'm pretty certain it's Cannon Fodder. It says so right there in the song.

It bears repeating that Cannon Fodder's available from GOG.com. That should probably go in the OP.

lol, totally, I'm also sure no one ever put the wounded soldiers out of their misery, their dying crys were hilarious, they just went on for ages
