So I'm recently unemployed, and I need money badly. School tuition is due in four days. Regardless of the fact that I submitted my FAFSA like five months ago, they said they just got it in today, and it should show up in a few days. The problem is, I thought that the amount I received from Federal Direct loans was proportional to the tuition I have to pay. They told me that was not the case, and I'd only be receiving the amount I did last year when I went to a regional campus with half the tuition cost. They automatically added on $2000 in additional unsubsidized federal direct loans, so now I have $6500 to pay two semesters of ~$4500 with. Yay. I also have about forty dollars in my banking account, and probably around $600-650 worth of bills to pay every month. Unemployment just called and asked a bunch of questions about why I was fired, and I answered, and they'd say they would call if they had any more question or I would see if I was approved online. Since everything else money-related in my life is terrible right now, I doubt I'll be approved. I've been applying at every single store I can find near me, and haven't gotten any calls back. I've gone to a few places to check up on stuff, and it seems as if whenever I fill out an online application I screw up the 100 question test thing somehow.

I have no idea of what to do. I can't even get approved for a school loan from anyone since I don't have a job, and my parents can't co-sign (or give me any money for tuition, and I can't move back in.)

So, my questions:

Is there a specific way to pass the internet-application-quiz things? I always answer them without contradicting myself to give the answers I think a retail establishment would want.

How the fuck to do I get money for school loans when I'm already in credit-card debt from tuition and books and don't have a co-signer, or a job?

Is it legal to sell a kidney?

Go to your school's Financial Aid office. Now.

Internet application quizzes are a complete waste of time and you are much better off going to the store in person, asking for an application, filling it out, and returning it in person (preferably to a manager).

They weren't particularly helpful over the phone and didn't suggest any alternate ways to get tuition. Would going in actually help at all?

Certain stores (like Best Buy and Sheetz) no longer carry store applications. The only way to apply is online.

Uh, yes, because over the phone you are just 'stoner-punkass-college student #333282'. In person you are a poor, groveling lump of a person, who they usually are able to help.

Edit: I had to go in person to my school's financial aid dept. because of shit like this (They claimed not to have gotten my paperwork) and the best thing I was able to do over the phone was get the bare minimum. Went in person that day, and got what I needed for tuition, books, etc.

That actually makes perfect sense. Thank you.

That's the same reason you go into a store to apply. I know our local wal-mart doesn't do paper applications in the store anymore, but they have a kiosk where you can apply.

If you go to the store and talk to the manager, regardless if they refer you to the website, you go from being 'internet guy #333282' to Mai-Kero.

Yeah, I did that. They said without getting a good score on the quiz thing they couldn't even access the application.

You may be able to set up an emergency loan/installment plan with your school. I know my school offered it, and it basically required you to pay half of your tuition, and then make payments, or it would divide your tuition into four payments. Either way, assuming you're getting $3,250 per semester in aid it should cover your initial payment and give you some breathing room.

The internet job applications rate people based on certain categories including honesty, etc.

Many of the question are "gotcha" questions that, if you answer what you would think is the answer the store is looking for e.g, "no, I have never smoked/met anyone who has smoked pot", it actually doesn't help you at all, and it might even hurt you because it assumes you are lying by comparing the answer against others.

My mother was a store manager at a major retailer for many years and she told me that most of her best employees didn't even pass the tests but she hired them anyway. The only thing she said about the test though is that the one thing you CANNOT answer badly is the "i have never stolen question".

Always say you've never stolen, even if you have, otherwise, it red flags you.

Your financial aid office should have financial assistance bursaries you can take advantage of. Make an appointment and go in person. Say you are finding it difficult to pay for your education and are looking for ways to alleviate that.

Make sure you have records of your income and expenses, as they give these things out based on financial need and will want to know if you truly need it.

I went to the financial aid office at my regional campus, and they told me I'd have to go to the main campus one. As it would close before I could get there, I'll have to go tomorrow.

If you have credit cards with balances, and make those payments every month, and you're going to start missing them, call the companies and explain your situation. They will generally work with you if they have a heads-up. While credit cards and credit card companies are generally evil, in this situation they can sometimes be helpful in not totally screwing you over.

In addition to the financial aid office, cancel everything that has a monthly payment that you can realistically live without. Sell things on craigslist that you really don't need.

Consider selling your plasma and/or going to a sperm bank.
