thanks yah I started on the head, I just have this really bad habit of doing that, its been dying down but it still bumps back once in a while

tried shading as well, then I did the ball, which I should of done first because I went way to fast on the drawing

Sooo Loomduns little diary, day 2 in hogwarts

soo the class was full and then jeff gave me the seat up front so that everyone could watch me be a horrible person.

Soooo anyways I was doing gesture and then alll of a sudden for some reason something just kind of happened on the top left one and I just I dont even know so all of a sudden my gestures changed

    5 minutes each

but I didn't really do to well on the 20 minute poses, the first one I didn't know how to hold the thingy still apparently so jeff was like heyy thats not right after I did it heres how you hold the pencil and I went oh, then he showed me how to sharpen the darn thing which made sense (I was doing that wrong to somehow urk)

    20 minutes

sooo I was trying to hold the pencil in some new fangle way and the drawing whent all garbled

    20 minutes

and then I messed up on the head on this one meh but here it is. so embarassing, I had to go kind of slower since the pose was odd

    20 minutes

and then I started getting kind of use to holding the pencil in this method and got a fun standing pose I'm sad though that the class is over already Next semester i'm going to take at least 7 classes this is addictive

    15 minutes

I cant wait to show ben my progress next week

Your proportions are improving very quickly considering you have only been in classes for a week now. Looking at this though I think you could really afford to start thinking about organization of your shapes. Right now its difficult to tell where one ends and another starts. While, that is technically the goal...your drawing does it in a different way.

Maybe practice drawing some spheres cylinders and cones as well. It sounds basic...but honestly I would struggle to draw a perfect sphere or cone...so it' only basic if you treat it that way. But thinking carefully about your edges and transitions from light to dark when doing those could really improve your edges and transitions when you are working on the figure.

If I can find the exercise sheet I used to practice drawing ellipses, but I remember drawing alot of glass bottles in still lives to help with that. If you guys have a still life inventory, see about checking out some blocks, too.

no class till monday so I drew my trench coat on a coat hanger using natural sunlight, spent abouttt 40 minutes

i'm really happy for once with how my measuring skills have gotten to, i drew this entire thing and I only had to alter the side a little and I picked it up effortlessly

Geez, break out a sanding pad and file that thing to a point. The incline shouldn't really change from the wood to the charcoal.

It's not the amount of charcoal exposed that's the problem, it's the sharpness and length of the point. Using a dull point means you can't get broad or sharp strokes out of it, just general dull strokes.

If you're breaking it it means you're being a hamfisted dullard or you unfortunately got a brittle pencil to begin with. (it happens)

The charcoal is good, but you should expose more wood and make it taper evenly.
