At lower level play (i.e. just starting out) in the multiplayer you're not likely to encounter the balance issues as much. Also, hitting up Vent and playing with others from PA will at least help you avoid most of the crap that goes around at the moment.
Is pretty much untrue. I've had good ranked games. I've never had good in-house games.
Meanwhile, I've had a lot of fun with in-house games, so woohoo for anecdotal evidence. I especially had a good time in that 3v3 where you did nothing but spam relays and cry about that one Spore mine sent your way. 8-)

So one mode (if they do release multiple ones) gets 'unveiled' on sep 11.
Dawn of War II: Last Stand – Discover a game mode where it’s fun to lose.
To date, Dawn of War II’s core offerings have been its epic progression-based Campaign and fast-paced multiplayer that let you get straight to the action. In this panel, Relic developers will unveil a brand new game mode called The Last Stand that will expand the game to include co-operative based arcade gameplay. We will discuss the design intent and some of the obstacles we overcame while developing The Last Stand as well as the gameplay mechanics we used to ensure no one ever feels like a loser.

One relay is spamming I guess? It's cool, I guess all in-house games should be spamming spore mines, that's fun for everyone. HEH. It's probably less that they're unfun and have people using swift movement kind of crap, you know who, and more that I don't like losing in this game. Or didn't.
Also I watched this replay during the downtime on the forums and it was pretty entertaining, even if it does end the way you'd expect it. It also has the first ravener alpha I've seen since 1.3.
ALSO ALSO I am pretty fucking impressed and surprised that half of the game modes aren't 4v4 or FFA.

"The Last Stand" seems to suggest it's gonna be the exact game mode I thought of in the last thread.
Klyka, are you psychic? I need to know my future, kthx.
I will say as for buying, it's fun. When you play low level MP, while you may not see as many balance issues in the game, you do see them in who you fight against. GFWL? How about we just use Steam instead. Just starting, you will play one round against a slightly lesser or equally skilled opponent, then the next match you will get absolutely stomped. That's fun...
Sync error happens when one of the clients reports inconsistent data, happens for example when people of different patch are playing each other and game 1 says "my banshees are 400 hp" and game 2 says "No they're not, they're 500" and then they throw a fit and start to fight and Relic has to come in-between and says "ALRIGHT THIS IS ENOUGH no more games!" and the sync error appears.
If you're getting it regularly, check the game files.
Right click DoW 2 in steam, properties, verify local game cache etc.

yeah, it was pretty sweet. One of their players got out before it froze the rest of us. Had to quite to windows just to get out (surrender wasn't working and it wouldn't let us just 'exit game').
Apparently triple guardian doesn't work very well vs slugga spam.
I've been trying forgoing shotguns for scout sarges. I've noticed these things happen:
1. I get an extra bolter - increasing the DPS of the squad as a whole.
2. I get grenades which I can spike.
2a. Once spiked the enemy continues to rush, eating the grenade, getting knocked down and delaying their march into melee and losing much health. May not force a retreat, but it will kill some members and the squad will lose a gread deal of health.
2b. Once spiked the enemy will move back or to the sides to dodge it, increasing the time it takes for them to reach melee and allowing you to get in more shots.
IMO, I basically get the benefits of shotgun knockback + then some with detection. Although I think getting the shotguns increases the DPS of the squad at close range quite a bit, early on that grenade damage is really good and I think outdoes the knockback which can simply only delay the inevitable without inflicting that many casualties.
I was mostly inspired by seeing a game where a Techmarine held out against slugga spam in Legis High Stratum by basically making great use of grenades to almost gib entire squads.
I'd really like to see future patches address melee right now. Many games I'm playing seem to be devolving into "assassinate the enemy's most expensive squad as early as you can".
Relic might have had a point with the bonus damage on retreat if so many melee units didn't have abilities/upgrades/buffs that helped them catch up to retreating units so easily, not to mention that units are still very stupid and refuse to run unless they are all in formation. This can cost you dearly.
You always have to retreat very early, which wouldn't be a bad thing usually, but often it ensures that the enemy will not take enough damage going in, so when you come back from the retreat they can still zerg you and force the retreat again, contrary to the Relic logic behind the melee vs ranged thing.
Hence melee heavy races can dominate non-melee focused races very easily.
Hey Goomba, remember when you vowed that you had quit DoW2 until Relic had fixed the major issues with DoW2, but then you played anyway a few days later and it turns out Canis was right about everything?

Single Player dreadnought with avitus termie using the repair rites? Sweet.

Once you upgrade the Dreadnought enough you can ditch repair rites. I think you need to upgrade health, the Dreadnought gains the ability to shut down and repair.
It's funny seeing mobs and bosses wailing on a parked Dreadnought that's regening its health faster than it can be whittled down.

Yes, I am near having that upgrade. I took Venerable with my first points off the bat, but since then I've been doing health mostly to get the anti-armor resistance and then the shutdown.
Single player is so fun... Now I just need to go do those optional missions for two more suits of Term.
Well with the hide da boyz it was quite a rapefest with the 4 sluggaz. Oak used it to defeat Umpire in that one replay and BioTerra right before him.
I think orcs and nids could use a slight nerf and/or give sm and eldar a slight buff. Using the nades for melee takes skill, if it works the melee squad just fallsback, if it dosnt work you lose a squad.
Still I wonder if rangers would have been useful for umpire.

I used to get rangers after the patch because oh hey super fun ranger units! I stopped and didn't notice until half a dozen games later, where I got somewhat depressed. Rangers are setup teams. Setup teams are worthless. Their knockback has some use, I'm sure, but I just can't find it. You have to use it before your melee units engage or they get knocked down, too. And since you only have a fraction of what they have, that means some of theirs are still up. Using it on setup teams just pushes them back a few feet, pointless on ranged units since none of them do enough to be afraid of their damage, and if they do they're a blob and a tiny AoE knockback isn't going to stop them.
Also have fun fighting the avatar, Custom Fallout. Have fucking fun.

I was thinking rangers for detecting the steahed sluggas and knock down on charging slaggas with nades could be good. Where did the avatar come from? o_O
I'm going to wub this because jesus christ it's about time we had some fresh ideas brought to the table. Even more so after I watched a game right before where a guy won by building literally just sluggas the entire game. Like 15 squads.

Yeah, but they wouldn't really do that good. They'd detect in time for "Oh I wish I had thrown a grenade" unless you have them on the front lines. You certainly wouldn't have them in the back lines, and the shot would be enough for maybe getting a grenade in the horde every minute or so. It might have helped, but at 40 power, in addition to the 30 or 45 power, is asking a lot for so little.
Also Custom Special said he was going to get the terminator bonus armors. The avatar is pretty tedious.
I watched both. Seeing you both teams lose squads every encounter but then winning because you got AT and their plan crumbled isn't exactly entertaining. I could watch any GR replay to find that boring crap. >

I lost like... one squad of banshees that whole game... everyone in your 3v3 myself included lost more squads than that.

You always lose your entire first force. Always. And I didn't lose any squads. Only a couple falcons to understandable circumstances. I'm pretty sure Akira didn't lose many, either.
Also everyone in your 3v3 lost at least a squad every other encounter or so. Much sloppier play.

I'm just curious - do I still get to see other units in the campaign beside those I already got up until the Cybot? I feel like I'm still missing out on an awful lot of units like for example the other two Spacer Marine heroes, or a predator. Only answer my question with a 'yes' or 'no' please.

How does rangers work as harassment though? Wouldn't it be possible to use them like snipers in CoH, shooting sluggaz for 5 minutes while kiting?

This is a really great replay, and the one bethryn should probably comment on.

I think it is obvious who has the better replay (me).
And half of the comments aren't about how crappy it is. 8-)
But seriously your game is fighting slugga boys and wartrukks. It's kind of boring versus this one that had a bunch of action and max level guys.
