We'll being getting around to doing more shoutcasts when Klyka gets back from Hamburg, I hope. Which of those two replays we do will be decided in an arbitrarily random fashion, of course!
I really just want relic to unlock the model / character progression to people that avoid ranked multiplayer like the plague.
Agreed. As I said before, I think ranked should be the most time-efficient method of gaining Rank, but skirmishes and custom matches (and Last Stand and the other new game mode) should also give Rank progression, perhaps at a lesser rate.
Rather than shoutcast yet another of Goomba and Co's (thats right, the other two bear no mention) boring replays, you should shoutcast one of the two awesome replays Shep posted in the previous thread near the end.
Wouldn't be 'secure'. Start a game of 1000 VPs, opponent quits after 1 second - 1000 points get, overall in half a minute (if everyone sets graphics to low for better loading speed). Losers get like 500.
In ranked you can't choose your opponents and the games follow set standards, as well as affecting your precious stats.
You can find several loopholes like the one above that you'd need to plug before another one leaks out again and if you lower the amount of points gained to one that would make exploiting not feasible the added rank points would be insignificant in normal, fair games. I guess a check like "this many actions happened by the player and y minutes passed" may be a suitable naive check.
Considering the rank stuff is only visually one might say "let them exploit all they want and have the fair guys get their points fairly". Makes sense but I doubt Relic shares this same viewpoint.

That's also a possibility; haven't watched either of them yet.
Alegis, I was under the impression that you get points towards your Rank based on your score, not on the VP score. Immediately quitting gives somewhere between 70 and 150 points. In Custom games, I suggested having it give 1/2 points, so that'd be between 35 and 75 points maybe every two or three minutes.
I'd say that if this was such a tempting option for people to gain rank with, we'd see people doing it already in the Ranked matches, so I wouldn't be too worried.
It's on your score, but your remaining VP points are added to the regular score (I think half, not sure. Losers get less. This added bonus is the reason why some may have Champion even if they have fewer points). Removing the VP bonus for custom games could be a possibility. Still have to twiddle with the standards and prevent easy point access by mods and other exploits.
In ranked you can't choose your opponents, forcing (or having agreed upon of course) for them to quickly quit.
Even if people exploit the hell out of the system and get to Rank 60 with all 4 races in 1 week somehow... that really wont help them beat anyone, and their Trueskill will still reflect how much of a nub they are since that wont be changed at all without them being in a ranked game.
EDIT: The only downside I could see, is that less people will be willing to grind through ranked play for the unlocks. Which means the only people left in ranked play will be people that enjoy ranked play, which may lead to a smaller pool of players. But if Relic is concerned about getting a larger pool of players in ranked play, they should focus more on balance, and less on adding in new game modes that there is already mods out for.

I think Last Stand will be in the same pool as ranked. There is a significant amount of DOW2 owners who play the game as a single player game. Think about it, didn't Relic say that 10% of the people who bought the game will even touch online multiplayer. I'd imagine if you gave them an environment where they can play against the computer with friends, and earn the rank bonuses their more hardcore and serious friends have achieved, you would not only introduce more people to online play, maybe upping it to 20-30%, but some of those people will transition to human only ranked multiplayer. This happened with Left 4 Dead when the survival mode was introduced. And while that game isn't comparable really, its the same human behaviour which dictates the pool of players for these modes.
I dont enjoy ranked play at all. I like playing custom games with my friends outside of that atmosphere. It's more fun to play against people you know than random strangers. Furthermore, most of the people I know with DOW2 play it as a single player campaign only. Having the ability to get the cool 'lewtz' by playing in a style they are comfortable with would make a lot more people turn to online.
And I guess that has the similar effect of having more people playing online more people experiencing GFW live therefore more people who are potential customers for DLC or whatever.
But this is Relic. So odds are none of this will happen and the mode will have like 2 maps and they will still push ranked 1v1 as the only 'legit' gametype despite most people preferring larger team based play. Really makes no sense to me.

We'll be doing that then, yes.
It's just that right now I have a hot Ukrainian girl sitting on my lap and I'm just not sure I can muster the strength to pleasure both her and your ears at the same time.

I've been trying forgoing shotguns for scout sarges. I've noticed these things happen:
1. I get an extra bolter - increasing the DPS of the squad as a whole.
2. I get grenades which I can spike.
2a. Once spiked the enemy continues to rush, eating the grenade, getting knocked down and delaying their march into melee and losing much health. May not force a retreat, but it will kill some members and the squad will lose a gread deal of health.
2b. Once spiked the enemy will move back or to the sides to dodge it, increasing the time it takes for them to reach melee and allowing you to get in more shots.
IMO, I basically get the benefits of shotgun knockback + then some with detection. Although I think getting the shotguns increases the DPS of the squad at close range quite a bit, early on that grenade damage is really good and I think outdoes the knockback which can simply only delay the inevitable without inflicting that many casualties.
I too prefer to get the sergeant instead of the shotgun on the scouts early game. It's not as effective as a counter against melee, but the grenades are more versatile and I believe that it adds to the scouts survivability.

Neb, less multiplayer, more co-op!
Also, defense missions with term Thadd and Thule and dropping Orbital on the last wave is good times...
Yeah... the assault cannon is seriously underwhelming next to some of the heavy bolters, and if you get avitus in terminator armour his other two squad members swap out their heavy bolters for storm bolters, which isnt as good on damage and has the added bonus of making their AI seriously fuck up.
Keep avitus in power armour, and get him the "Nevending hail of devestation" I believe its called, and thats his ideal loadout. His DPS with that thing is flat out absurd.
Yeah. With the ability to regenerate energy from kills, he pretty much never runs out of energy in the last mission, ever. It's pretty hilarious, actually.

Haha! That was great, you dropped an Orbital Bombardment right on the last waves spawn point. When the deff dread appeared it died before we even knew what happened. We were left wondering where it went.

Yeah, that one was sweet.
Last wave of orks on a defense, we were out at the relay where they come from (so they basically just start appearing out of thin air). I drop orbital, they say watch out for the deff dread, we never see deff dread, defense over.
Orbital is awesome.
Almost as awesome as IRON HALO! I am addicted to this thing. I equip no other commander item. He's basically invulnerable against most basic troops, unless he confronts an army solo with lots of shooty bits. Love it.

Well at least Relic say they are investigating it. Which I guess means doing nothing but collecting emails about it.
Relic recently posted on GR.org about how they're focusing their resources on CoH-Online (not the same thing as CoH), and patching their current games is going on the back burner until it gets released (next year).
I wouldn't expect too much, but a game-crashing bug may warrant a hot-fix - something they said they will do if necessary.

Relic releasing a hot-fix? So does that mean it'll only be a month or so late and then another only a two week wait from the time they announced it? Haha, I kid, I kid.
And then it won't even fix the issue.

So today in the campaign I just came across
IG fighting off the Tyranids at Angel's Gate. This pretty much means that the Imperial Guard will be in the next addon right? If so, then yes.

I have wanted to cut myself many times after random ranked games.
Huh? Please elaborate.
