Since the multiplayer is fucked, how is this as a single player game? I'll probably grab this when I eventually build my new PC, but 'm not huge into multiplayer RTS anyway.

It's fun until you realize that all the missions use the same five maps, just tilted at odd angles to make you think they're different.

Haha really? Like, you have no camera control either?

Whoa whoa whoa, let's be fair. It's like 8-9 different maps. And then a few plot sensitive points add in 3-4 maps that can be played once.
Half of which are then cut down and then stuck into multiplayer.
What tends to happen is that you fight somewhere, eliminate a threat, then a new threat will come back after you've been on a new planet/what-not and you'll come back to eliminate that. You'll land in a different part of the map with a different camera angle, sometimes a different time of day.

All I want from Chaos is Noise Marines and a Dreadnought hero. Is that so much to ask?
Can I get some Thousand Sons please? Noise Marines are sweet though...If you attack with them, does it blare AC/DC or Zeppelin in the enemies headphones or some such?

That sounds better. Also, watching the video review on Gamespot, they called it out for not being an entertaining campaign because it's more of an action RPG, but... that's what I wanted out of the original DoW. Base building never sat well with me in a 40k game. Guess this will go with Crysis as the couple of games I get for my new PC to see what sort of legs it has.
I would like an Obliterator as a Hero. Have the ability to fast switch weapons or something.
An obliterator would actually be pretty sweet. That or a possessed might work too but he'd have to look awesome with tentacles and claws and all that good stuff.

If they had 4 heroes they should do one for every chaos group. Seems possible since there might be 4 heroes on the space marine side with the addition of the librarian. So who knows..

Thousand Sons have nothing to do with Dawn of War.

Neither do intelligent eldar but some people still want them 8-)

I realise I'm still a scrub here, but I'd actually say the multiplayer balance isn't as screwed up as the OP makes out anymore. The changes they've made have had a pretty good impact on the dynamics, all the sides work better, spore mines spam doesn't work, Tac spam isn't worthwhile compared to a decent unit mix, Eldar Banshees can survive T2 and beyond now.
Plus they added in Last Stand, which is a pretty awesome mode to play with friends, although how much longevity you get out of that one varies. A couple of weeks if you're not really into it, otherwise it might just become a staple.
EDIT: Also with regards to the SP campaign, play it co-op, preferably at a higher difficulty level, it becomes about a thousand times more awesome.

Yes, we are talking Relic's writing team here.

Also I have heard the balance is better. Heard from people I trust about as far as I can throw them, but heard all the same.

Actually yeah since the last stand patch mp isnt totally ass crap in terms of balance. Its still got some ways to go but you can have fun with out all the super cheap tactics.
Its okay, we won anyway. Actually we won like, 3 in a row there. Surprising.
Also I'm really terrible at this game. Really, awful. I should probably play a race thats a bit more robust, all I ever do is cap a victory point and camp all my forces around it.

My favorite Taldeer moment was actually the first mission in Winter Assault. For no reason whatsoever, she goes, "I'm gonna kill that Sorc, NOBODY FUCKING GET IN MY WAY!"
There's no practical advantage for doing so, but I always fight him one on one. Because, you know, she made me.
Another great scene, setting up a plot thread that continued through DOWII.
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out now that Eliphas is back, and Thule is shoved into a box for his "service to the Emperor". Maybe he can end up becoming a Chaos Dreadnought.

I'm pretty certain they've confirmed plague marines. The IGN preview specifically mentioned them.
I always forget about the Daemon Prince because of what a worthless piece of shit he is.

Now if only everyone could forget about chaos space marines the same way.
Methinks they are going to go the route of an elite... elite, ala Kommando Nob, Warlock, WSE, and the Alphas.
so... Plague Marine champion perhaps?

i mean it's pretty consistent when you reduce it to its bare essentials: only talk about space marines, and space marines always win
those are the two axioms from which all of the narratives in all of the 40k background stories follow
Don't do it Rami!
I was just puzzling how long it has been since I've played a 3v3. Let me come with you!
There's safety in numbers.
Gah! if I only I didn't have to go to work in 30 minutes, I'd join you two.
Need a third?
If so, we shall onwards to mediocrity together!

Finally get a game going and my internet connection decides to conk out for a minute. Now I can't even connect to Vent because of duplicate IP errors.
Sorry guys.

Anyway Rami, I'll add your GFWL maybe we can play again sometime.
The venom in Isador's voice contrasts perfectly with the resolve in Gabriel's. This is probably the scene that hook me on Warhammer.
Holy crap, General Sturnn could put balls on a woman with that kind of speech.

While the villains weren't up to snuff, (no one expects a Hamlet quotin' Nid) I did enjoy the personalities of the different Marines.
