Well, I was sitting here wondering who would be goofy enough to spend money on pixel clothes, when all I had to do was hit reload on the thread.

Good on Microsoft for identifying a market.. I guess.

The funny part is that the Avatars are used for ... almost nothing right now, outside of your Friends list and 1 vs. 100. Even games like Uno or Madballs just use the Avatar head. FYI, I had heard on the Giant Bombcast last week that any of the special props or other Marketplace pay items might not be supported/visible in earlier Avatar-related games; IIRC, it's up to the individual developer to patch existing games to support all of your corporate whoredom.

Truth be told...for me...I'm actually much more a fan of Miis than these avatars. They are more charming for me, even if they are more simplistic. Plus I'm much more attached to my Mii than the avatar for the exact reason you stated, a bunch of my games use my Mii for different reasons, whether it is in Wii Sports/Resort or even racing in Mario Kart use them. I just love my Mii.

I hope they start using the avatars at some point in something more interesting than Uno.

Even just seeing Miis hanging out in the background of games like Mario Kart or Wii Sports Resort helps the game feel more populated and personalized. The implementation has been a lot more fleshed out on the Wii, but that's mostly because they were planned from the get-go instead of patched on midway through the system's life like on the 360.

That said, I think from an aesthetic standpoint I like both Avatars and Miis for different reasons; Miis get much more facial detail, but Avatars still look cartoony but let you do more in terms of customizing the overall appearance. (And both avoid the sterile, creepy, makes-Oblivion-characters-look-sexy look of Home characters. Ick.) But you only get the one Avatar, whereas you can populate the Wii with dozens of goofy characters and have them pop up and surprise you.

I'm curious about that free kart-racing Avatar-based game Microsoft mentioned in its E3 keynote; I think that could be a cool Mario Kart clone that gets a boost from Avatar personalization. But like you said, I just want something to do with the Avatars.

Oh shit. Star Wars stuff. MS knows my weakness.

Also, is Mass Effect really 100 bucks? Who would buy that?

And is it true you're Avatar Props don't show up on Friends Lists? Lame.

If Avatar props dont show up on friends lists I fail to see the point of them. I ALMOST bought the guitar, but now not a chance...

I can buy clothes for my avatar now. Yay?

That's about the only thing that's noticeable on my end.

Some other cool shit that was needed is like Sorting your friends list by Activity, Game, Status, Name, etc.

I like how if someone gets knocked out of a Party they reconnect right away. No more inviting guys again mid-game.

Achievements are laid out a bit nicer off the Guide button. No more long-ass list of 59 achievements, they're laid out like the dashboard in block-style now.

Where's my fucking macros for messages? I wish I could just have a set of 5-10 macros for sending text messages to friends like "Invite please" or "Got room?" or "Be right there".

    That would explain alot.

I've never one used a party system, I've got maybe 4 friends, and I couldn't give two shits about achivements.

A semi-important update I've not heard mentioned is if you have a 360 with internal memory (a Jasper Arcade etc) and you have your profile saved to the internal memory, dash times are increased.

I moved my profile from my 120G HD to the internal memory and noticed a difference in dash speeds/smoothness.

I was on the beta, tested it then. Also bought a chicken-with-a-pulley-in-the-middle, and I'm about to go whore out a whole bunch more Avatar shit. Sorry, can't help it. :/

There really should be an option to delete game/achevement data from your 360 in the next update.

I don't like having 5-6 games with only one or two achevements that I never plan on playing again.

One thing I really wish Microsoft would do is enforce some standards on Achievement tracking in games. I love it when games like The Orange Box have an in-game browser for achievements that shows your exact progress toward all of them.

They already enforce loading screen rules and other similar things, so it doesn't seem like much of a stretch.

Is there a way to set your default sign-in status? Sometimes I want to connect to XBL but automatically be in Appear Offline mode, and I'd prefer not to have to move it from "Online" every time.

If your store has it and even then it isnt a digital copy. Granted I'd need a new hard drive, but I'm already considering buying several of the games there.

Also bought myself some of the cog armor today, I only wish they would do stuff for the orange box. I would pay so much money to dress up like the sniper, or spy, or demoman.
