Stupid question... ive spent 30 mins trying to figure out how to search for people by Live usernames on the Xbox site. Halp?
So far ive added 2 strangers to my friends list by accident without being asked to confirm them. I cant see how to delete either, but thats another story.

I should have thought things through. Added 500 points form the dashboard and bought the clone trooper suit. Left me with 140 points. Now I'm 20 short of the helmet.

Well, at least points are the same price no matter how many you buy.
I'd say Microsoft will earn a fair chunk of change for relatively little work with the avatar bling, even if it is pointless. We've had several people in this thread admit to buying stuff, and we cynical dorks are supposed to be immune to this kind of thing.

It should have been expected after Sony had people buying needless crap by the boatload on Home.
They'll still get a profit from people who just 'need' the one item. They'll have to drop the prices once the initial rush dies down for the old items, with new ones coming out being super expensive to take advantage of the people who 'need' it.
Edit: I mean honestly, how much damn time does a shirt need to design? They could be charging insanely cheaply and still make a profit.

God, this is exactly what I feared would happen with the avatars - They'd start charging funbux for cool digital things and people would buy them because they are sick consumer whores. It's stupid on our part, and greedy as hell on Microsoft's. I hate it, and everyone involved.
That said, I hope someday there's a game where I can see my avatar and his lightsaber soon.
Heh, I just realized. Rare did the avatars for Microsoft. And this is probably one of the few things they've done, if not the FIRST thing they've done, that will actually be profitable for Microsoft.

If Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts wasn't profitable then I am personally disappointed in each and every person who didn't buy it.

It didnt have enough brown or grey for me to buy it.
Actually I wanted a platformer instead , so im just waiting for that.

I'm guessing no, since it sold very modestly and it was in development for a long time. Half-finished Banjo games were scrapped twice before the current vehicle-based idea came up.
It is a shame though, the game was unique and damn fun.

Hahaha. Well, I'm sure at some point, I'll buy some stupid ass prop for my avatar, and I suppose I'm okay with it. I mean, they certainly aren't forcing anyone to buy anything, and obviously there's a market for it. What's the harm?
We might be able to blame Microsoft for monetizing everything.. but we can't blame them for people actually paying their ridiculous prices.
Uhh, yes we can because people who buy this useless shit are effectively telling MS it's okay. You vote with your money people.
Uh, people are voting with their money. It's just that those of us who didn't buy anything lost the election.

If you're going to be upset at anything MS is doing with Live (or people supporting it), be upset at the fact that they still don't have an exact money:point conversion ratio, such that you're nearly always forced to purchase more points than you need (and thus, spend more than you should) to purchase something.
It's not "end of the world" bad, but it's still pretty crappy.

Heh, I was thinking the same thing. It's just too bad that MS has relegated a once great developer to avatar whoring.
Oh, and on Nuts and Bolts...I want Banjo and Kazooie, not Lego Banjo. Bleh.
Yeah, I mean I compare everything to everything else in the XBLA store.
Basically Splosion Man was the asshole who ruined the curve for everyone else.
Since my pea brain can't ever convert MS funbux to real money on the fly, everything is measured in what it does for me. It used to be that 160ish points was a Rock Band song, so everything was graded in Rock Band songs. That thing is 400 points. Thats a Rock Band pack roughly. Will I enjoy it more than 3 songs/and/or a pack?
Then Splosion Man came along and now everything is based around that. This thing is 400 points. Is it worth HALF a Splosion Man? Could I just save that 400 and get something that will be equal to Splosion Man once I get another 400?
And these avatar clothes are INSANITY to me. I think they really should be 20 points to 160. A quarter to $2. Ive debated buying a few things, but anything over 80 points I wont even look at. Never could I justify anything at 160, because that's a Rock band song, and I would have a much better time with a song that I would fake clothes for my fake doll of myself.
But with that said, I love the variety of stuff being released and hope soon we see deals based around Avatar stuff. Any game that comes with Avatar clothes for achievements will automatically take to the front of my mind, because god knows if I got some sort of hat that said HEY I GOT ZOMBIE GENOCIDER AND IT TOOK ME 3 HOURS, I would NEVER TAKE IT OFF my little dude.

I really don't understand how people still can't wrap their minds around 80 points = $1. You Rock Band song is $2 (160 points), and 'Splosion Man is $10 (800 points). Hell, if you don't want to or can't do the math is sets of 80, just do it in sets of 400 ($5).

I much prefer the $1 = 100 points that Nintendo uses....I have issues with MS bux too.
The only reason I like the obscurity of the MS Funbuxx system is because the Points cards used to go on sale all the time or be folded into occasional sales and deals on "Live accessories," which is such a broad category that stores didn't realize they were essentially selling $20 vouchers for $10. You don't see as many nowadays, but back at Christmas '07, I think, there was a Circuit City sale that had buy-1-get-1-free on all points cards. I snagged about $120 worth of points for $60 and rode them for half a year, cackling all the way.
it's designed that way to confuse and anger us consumers.
in any case i am stoked since now i will buy my friend's 360 with a broken disc tray for $20, then simply download my games from now on.
sick.
The calculation for gold membership is pretty fucked. I've had been paying for my account pretty much since XBL was launched, and it says I've been a gold member since the last time I was billed (which was April).
I mean really, if they're going to offer e-peen features, they sure as shit better get it right.
I figured it would work this way. I suspected that if you ever slipped to a silver member, your status would get erased. That sucks.
I have never, ever been a silver account. I've been paying the $50 or whatever it is every April since 2003.
Same problem here. Not that it's a huge issue for me, but it's telling me I've been a gold member since my last billing date, but I've been a gold member for about 4 years now.

It's also a free loan. 10 million subscribers, say half of them have 100 points just sitting around on their account. That's a free 6 million dollars Microsoft gets to stash in the bank and make interest on.
I was kind of exaggerating. I was just saying how since it isnt actually dollars, it's like a psychological thing where the way I best figure out if I want to use my points on it is by comparing it with other things that can take points.
I mean, my brother kind of summed it up best the other day when I was debating getting The Lost and The Damned when it goes on sale. I have 2000 points right now. In a way, I ALREADY HAVE PAID FOR IT. Its just a matter if I want to cash in for that.
So since they already have my money, I look at things like, what can I best trade for. And I was saying that when I see a hat for 160, and a Rock Band song for 160, the song wins every damn time.

I'm pretty sure that was purely cosmetic.
So in that case, it makes it exactly the same?

Two things came to my mind upon reading this:
1) Hyphens are good
2) Don't give Microsoft any ideas. Ass accessories are the last thing we need.

On-topic: Is there any plans for old games to have achevement costumes?
Edit: I think the obvious reason that MS Points is there is because people are more easily going to buy something for '1000 points' than '£20' etc.
Edit Edit: Jeez I was late with the joke.
