MBP Dual Monitor issue

Recently I purchased a cheap HDTV for my office. Since is has a VGA port I decided to use it as a second monitor for my MPB. Everything works fine except when I turn off or switch the input of the HDTV while it's connected to the MBP.
When input HDTV input is switched to something else and then switched back ot the MBP:
1) I lose "hot corners" for Expose
2) I lose the ability to use Function keys for Expose (i.e. using F11 to show desktop, etc)
3) I lose the ability to command-tab between programs
4) I lose the ability to command - ` to bring up Quicksilver
Anyone know what could possibly be going wrong? I've used a dual monitor setup with this MBP before and never had this issue.
