Long story short, they always use the words "patriarch" and "matriarch" when we would say king or queen, (which isn't weird in of itself) buuut, whenever a voice actor says it it's bleeped out!

Now I'm no world culture expert, but where the heck are king and queen bad words?

I think the patriarch used to be the pope. I don't know if they were worried about Catholics getting offended at an evil game using their pope, or about the Tom Chick Protestants of the world getting offended at the evil pope being in the game, but there you go.

Yeah I recall that happening in KoF, and iirc they say Patriarch but also partially bleep it in The Crusaders, probably due to some weird mix-up (e.g. they bleep pope but still add "patriarch" on top of it), but say "patriarch" out loud in Heroes? Or maybe "Pope" is totally bleeped in Crusaders but not in Heroes. I might be remembering it all wrong.

I could've sworn they use "king" for actual kings and such in the game, it's just the "Holy Empire" of Ecclessia that's affected.

Yeah, any reference to the 'pope' is gone. Same with Papal, replaced with Patriarchal. They were scared of getting the Church riled up, I guess, since
the pope is kind of a jerk.
