Xbox 360 savegame transfer

So, a good friend of mine is moving into his own place, and he'll be leaving behind his roommates' 360, which he happily played for hours and hours on end.

He's running into a problem, though. Although the DLC he's bought can be redownloaded, he wants to transfer the saved games that he has on their 360, and the flash drive he's using is not registering. The 360 will play the music, show the pictures on it, etc, but he can't actually transfer savegames. I thought that this was possible to do with a flash drive, was I wrong?

Also, as a workaround, would loading up the game, and then hot-swapping the HDDs work to transfer the game data?

Do not hotswap the HDDs you can lose all the data. The only thing I can think of is using a Memory Card to transfer them.

I believe that you'll need the Memory Unit to transfer saved games, a run-of-the-mill USB device isn't going to cut it.

I'm assuming that's the official Microsoft memory card? Like this one?

Egh. I suppose if that's true, then that's disappointing. Haet proprietary stuffs, but guess it's the only option.

    Yup. That's the one.

There have been reports of some save games not being allowed to transfer, but I believe that may have been cleared up in the last update.

if you're technically inclined at all you could download xplorer360, open up the hdd enclosure, connect the drive to your computer using a regular SATA connector, then use xplorer to image the drive. Then when he wants to get the saves back on whatever xbox he'll be moving to he can either re-image the new drive with the old image, or he can cherry-pick the savegames or whatever and then dump that into the new drive.

Go to your game stop and ask for the smallest xbox360 memory card they have, I got a 64mb used for like $14. That should be enough for moving save games around.
