Sony Vaio Backlight issue

My wife has a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ 4000. Unfortunately, sometime last weekend the screen got cracked. So I browsed over to ebay and bought a new replacement screen. It came in today and I just got through installing it.

Whenever I turn the laptop on I immediately see the typical Vaio splashscreen, then it goes black, and I hear it load into windows.

I have a 42" lcd with HDMI I can hook up to the laptop to get a display, and if I mess with various display settings, or put the computer to sleep and wake it back up, the backlight will kick on and go right back off.

I don't think this is an inverter issue as the cracked screen works just fine. I am hesitant to say it's a bad replacement either because I've googled around and have found a handful of people with this same issue, but their posts went unanswered.

Any ideas? I've tried to r/r the generic display drivers, update the nvidia drivers, and multiple reboots. Nothing has worked. I just have a feeling this is a little issue and not a major hardware issue.
