A fix I found and posted on the Champ Forums:
    Click start and click run.

Now depending on the performance of the patch server you can connect to the old one or the new one.
Copy a line and paste it in your run prompt.
Make sure you choose the command line that works for your OS.
Windows XP for XP and Windows Vista for Vista.

    OLD PATCH SERVER
    Windows XP 32bit/Windows Vista 32bit/Windows 7 32bit:
    "C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios\Champions Online.exe" -sync -project FightclubClient -server 208.95.184.132 -port 7255 -name FC.9.20090815.7

    Windows XP 64bit/Windows Vista 64bit/Windows 7 64bit:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios\Champions Online.exe" -sync -project FightclubClient -server 208.95.184.132 -port 7255 -name FC.9.20090815.7

    NEW PATCH SERVER
    Windows XP 32bit/Windows Vista 32bit/Windows 7 32bit:
    "C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios\Champions Online.exe" -sync -project FightclubClient -server patchserver.crypticstudios.com -port 7255 -name FC.9.20090815.7

    Windows XP 64bit/Windows Vista 64bit/Windows 7 64bit:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios\Champions Online.exe" -sync -project FightclubClient -server patchserver.crypticstudios.com -port 7255 -name FC.9.20090815.7

If you have the game installed to another location you need to point it to the proper directory.

    OLDPATCH SERVER
    <DRIVE>:\<DIRECTORY(S)>\Champions Online.exe" -sync -project FightclubClient -server 208.95.184.132 -port 7255 -name FC.9.20090815.7

    NEW PATCH SERVER
    <DRIVE>:\<DIRECTORY(S)>\Champions Online.exe" -sync -project FightclubClient -server patchserver.crypticstudios.com -port 7255 -name FC.9.20090815.7

Yeah i got down to 907 with earlier start stops, now I have like 18 some more downloaded, so I will see if it keeps going now. Been stuck for the last 30 seconds so may have just copped out again. Oh there it goes..

I am going to leave it for a bit and go watch Mad Men and hope it doesn't stop.

At least the 900 or so megabyte number is the uncompressed size of the patch. It shouldn't be that big to download.

    What is this then.

I guess if anything about the mess of this patching day is a consolation to me, it's that I almost took a day off work for this. I guess I'm glad I just went to work, because although I'm probably gonna deal with all this frustration tonight when I get home, I can at least take tomorrow off instead when the game is actually up and running. :winky:

Torrent up on the Champions board for the full piggs.

I think its ok to post but I'll spoiler it for now. Let me know if I need to take it down.
The torrent can be found here.

    http://nth-dimension.eu/Champions/COpiggs.torrent

Use µTorrent or another DHT friendly client, since no trackers are attached to it...

    Thanks Tal-N for it.

port fowarding still working atm so Im gonna hold off using it.

Just so you guys know, even if you finish patching you still won't be able to play. The patcher will attempt to download an audio file and in the processes it will freeze. For some reason the patcher gets confused by something at Cryptic's end and as a result kills itself in rage.

Is this "full piggs" as in "ready to play the game" full or is it just for people who deleted theirs while moving things around trying to get the patcher down to 900 MB?

Edit: of course, it's irrelevant because there aren't any seeds. But for academic purposes, I must know!

    OK LISTEN UP YALL

Don't know if this has been posted:
Ok, like many I was having my patcher freeze while downloading. For me, a whopping 0.3% to freeze. After opening the patcher_trivia file, I noticed the port numbers each time it was patching a file, and figured what the hell.

So far, I am downloading with no freeze to speak of.(Skip if you know how to forward ports) Go to your router page (for me, its 192.168.0.1) and enter the password admin, go to apps and games (may be different for you, but generally the same title).

Now enable the port start 7254, and the end 7256. enable the port, and save the changes. I also deleted my .patch folder before patching again (in case it was corrupt). I can't say if it helped, but I would recommend it if your patcher will not budge after the ports are forwarded.

So far I have hit 20% with no freezing, and started with only being able to reach .3%.

    Hope this works for others.

    Edit:
So far it still has not frozen. Normally I wouldn't post it at this low, but waiting to hit 100% seems mean if it in fact works. So I posted it now, in case it is a fix to let everyone download it sooner rather than later.
    Edit Edit:
Be sure to delete the entire .patch folder if it won't even budge...something may be corrupt and screwing it up. If you want you can check the patch_trivia txt and delete the most recent download as well.

Initially working for me. No freezing upon first try here so far.

I did this and my patching has been chugging along slowly now for 20+ minutes. I had to keep restarting it before. So either they have changed something on their end or this actually can help some people.

I think it may do the trick. Even though I only patched 20MB on the last try, patch size has decreased by 20MB now so we might just have to babysit it through.

I wish this worked, but my damn D-Link router won't save the change!

You know, I don't think it is the full ready to play game. The torrent is 2.7 gigs, and the patcher says 3.6, which would leave the 900mb patch to download.

So if you got the moving the hoggs around to work, disregard that torrent.

I tried the piggs/hoggs thing and it got my patch install down to 950megs too, but mine would still keep freezing up between 1k-4k patched. Only once did it get a whole 32 megs done, so now my remaining download says 907megs, but it's like watching paint dry.

I keep closing down the installer and re-opening and it doesn't really make much progress.

One thing I am trying now, because my patch is downloading SO slowly, is that FP now has an open beta client available for download.

    http://www.fileplanet.com/203771/download/Champions-Online-Open-Beta-Client

Allegedly this is a bit messed up though, as it will not work on its own. Instead you need to install the pre-load, move the hogg files, then install this and move the hogg files again.

Supposedly after you do that you only need to download 56 megs to bring it up to date.

I am currently in queue on fileplanet... So we will see what happens, while my other download crawls. My current download has been probably going for an hour now and has received 35.5 megs.

Ok question for all you folk. I was given a key by a friend that was supposed to get me in the beta, I activated it on the Champions Online site, but that doesn't seem to do me any good, because I still need to be a Fileplanet subscriber. Do I have to be a fileplanet subscriber to be in this open beta? I was under the impression my key would get me in, but there is nowhere to download it off the champions online site.
