This is probably a dumb question, and I don't know if anyone can answer it, but here it is:
I know that Tycho and Gabe probably get ridiculous amounts of e-mail every day, if one does write an e-mail to them with a question does anyone know what the likelihood is of getting a reply? Of them reading it/it not getting eaten by spam filters? Is there a general time frame like "if you don't get an answer in a week, you probably won't get one"?
This isn't to say that there's an expectation that they get back to everyone since they're probably very busy, I'm just kind of curious about it.
Your email probably has a higher likelihood of getting a reply for every point of awesome it contains. I can only imagine how many emails they get a day, a lot of them probably asking/saying the same thing. I would also assume that the longer that email is sitting in their inbox, the less likely they're going to reply.
Give it a shot, but don't take it personally if you don't hear back.
They do really well, actually, considering the volume of email they get, but like said, it is more likely that you will receive a response if there is something in your letter that will grab their attention.

I haven't emailed them in probably 5 years, but back in the day Tycho was awesome about responding and Gabe was horrible. I probably emailed Tycho a total of 4 or 5 times and got replies each time, and twice for Gabe with nothing.

I'm not going to spoil my trick on getting through since everyone will use it.
I will say this-
But be creative on your email title. Try to make something that grabs his attention and that he (tycho) will likely respond to. Keep it short, simple and easy.

Unless it went in my spam folder, I didn't get a reply.
Then again, there were some quite specific questions in there as I was trying to get a comic-writer's perspective on the writing/drawing process to help me apply it to ancient literature, and if the situation were reversed I probably couldn't be arsed to reply either.
I've gotten some replies from Tycho before (I asked him about his band he was in a while ago,) but I actually emailed Gabe the other day about the 1 vs 100 thing, asking if the time he gave was for PST or what. The next time he did a news post about it, he included that it was PST, so I'm sure he must have perused some email asking him about it.
I am really sorry, but Im very new to this forum....but HOW do I Email them? I havent seen an address to use yet. My neighbor is Tycho's Aunt, and she just brought me back a sweet swag bag and got them both to sign some stuff for me, and I just want to tell them thanks and how frickin awesome it was that they did that for me.

See the way their names are underlined in the newsposts? That's their e-mail addresses.
