fun with a turntable

I found a turntable laying around and thought I'd try making some use of it. I'd like to get some of my favorite albums on vinyl if i can get it to work. It's a Technics turntable, not sure of the model number, but it's of the DJ variety, not a dinosaur.

The wires I see are a red/white audiojack and something that looks like a tiny tuning fork. It doesn't work with my tv speakers for some reason. what other options do I have?
edit- I don't have a stereo system. No mixer either.

You'll need a mixer if you want to mix your shit. But, if you just want to play records, hook it up yo an amp, and hook some speakers up to the amp. The red and the white jack are to be put in said amp. You only need the fork thingie when you hook it up to a mixer.

I only have a guitar amp...I don't see any aduiojack inputs on it. BUT i found 2 mysterious speakers with no apparent power source except a jack that takes a guitar cable. they also have red and black wires that end in wiremesh.

    the plot thickens...

or im just stupid but still

A guitar "amp" isn't actually an amp; well, it is, but it's also a speaker.

When #14 says "amp," he's referring to a power source for the speakers. If you just plug the turntable into a couple of speakers, it's not going to work, because there isn't any power for the speakers. You could plug it straight into the guitar amp, since it has an internal power source, and that would work (though it probably wouldn't give you the best sound quality).

I always thought the tiny tuning fork thing would be a grounding wire?

On every receiver I've ever had, there has always been a grounding post in the vicinity of the PHONO input, so you should probably look into that... maybe take a picture of the wire and where it comes from on the turntable and post it here so we can see it better?

I think you need a receiver for the turntable. You plug the speakers into an amplifier and the amplifier + the turntable into the receiver. You need a receiver with a phono station.

Yes, the fork is for grounding.
