Cars actually moving off their racing line? Is this still GT? :P
My speculation on this is that the A.I. drivers in A-Spec mode and Arcade Mode use the system from B-Spec Mode. So in the early races of A-Spec they are not going to be as skilled of drivers. They won't drive exactly on the line and will make mistakes. If you lower the difficulty in Arcade Mode, they will do the same.
I was trying to be sarcastic. They did actually say that they would be making the cars drive a bit more realistically, instead of sticking to the racing line like glue.
Sorry about that haha that totally went over my head. All I can think about is GT5.

With everyone talking about the Driving Force GT, I'd like to point out that the cheaper, more compact, and less feature-filled Driving Force Wireless is nice if you just want a decent wheel to play with. I don't own one myself, but I've used it and I like it a lot. I've seen them around for under $50, and for that price, it kicks ass. The only other wheels in that price range are jokes.
The DFW has no pedals, stick shifter, or 900 degree steering, which is great if you don't want any of that crap. In place of pedals, it has these awesome analog paddles on the back. I think the L1 and R1 buttons are on the front of the wheel for you to use for sequential shifting. The force feedback isn't as strong or smooth as the GT, but it feels good. You can just sit the thing in your lap to use it, but as far as I know there's no built-in way to mount it if you do want to do that. You'd have to figure something else out.
I have a DFGT, and I love the thing to death, but it's so much of a hassle to get set up and I don't have enough room to keep it mounted all the time.
Anyway, if you just want a nice, simple wheel controller, if you don't have the space for a mounted wheel with pedals, or if you're really cheap, the Driving Force Wireless is not a bad wheel.

To be fair, this is absolutely true. Every time I want to play a game with my DFGT I have to mount the wheel to my desk, plug the pedals into the wheel, plug the wheel into the PS3, and then plug the whole kit into the wall. It's a pain.

I got this wheel from amazon.co.uk for £25 when it was on sale as a punt. It's awesome - as mntorankusu said just chuck it on your lap and drive!

I can set up my wheel in no time, I should film it for you
you'd probably find it pretty funny, it's as ghetto a set-up you'll ever find
So, not having skimmed all of these pages, is there an official updated release date, or is it still dec 31st or w/e amazon tells me?
No. Just a rumor that it's in manufacturing and a scheduled event in Spain the first week of December that people are assuming is a launch party. No official word, though.
Will there be soundtrack silliness again? GT4 had all the tracks from Japanland removed from the playlist by default.
I only recently dusted off my Ps3, so I'm gonna have to load it up with custom soundtracks. Of course, purists probably play with the music off, because the roar of the engines is the only music they need.

It all comes down to licensing issues. The music industry is really crazy about that shit. But yeah, I will have music turned off from the start.

The one thing I hope they bring back are the different sounds that upgrades infer to your car; I remember upgrading the exhaust and mufflers of certain cars in earlier games and really increasing the baritone or growl of certain configurations. I hope that makes a return.

I'm part of the turning off the music crowd, I have no idea what music was in GT4.
But yes, upgrades in GT4 did change sounds, like adding a racing transmission would add a transmission whine to the engine, or the whine of a turbocharger/supercharger, etc. etc.

Picked up a driving force GT yesterday and prologue. Had to wait in line with the black ops muck of people... I pissed alot of them off when I commented about just getting black ops on steam to avoid the line, and the gamestop employee was confused when I said I wanted to buy something other than black ops.
But anyway, the wheel is great. I was really debating between it and the g27. The price of the g27 isnt what turned me away from it, its that the price is literally double that of the driving force... and for the difference in features I just couldnt justify paying double. I do like the paddle shifters on the g27, but I was pleasantly surprised when the driving force turned out to have some as well (cant tell in pictures of it), just smaller button like ones that work just fine.
Prologue of course plays perfect right out of the box with the driving force. I downloaded a ton of demos off of the psn store, and I'm not sure if I wanna buy some of the other games that use the wheel or not. Dirt 2 seemed fun, but i was fishtailing all over the damn place. I realize its on "dirt", but I was losing horribly when I let off the gas to much to keep control and I was just so busy fighting the wheel, it seemed really fun though if I were to get the trick of driving with a wheel on dirt.
So what games should I look into getting at the moment while waiting for GT5? The new NFS game didnt seem to use the wheel in the demo.... so wasnt sure about it. I see Grid got good reviews, but no demo out to see how the wheel works. Any suggestions?
Grid works great with a wheel, it's one of my favourite racing games, largely because I'm not overly a sim person (Lord knows why I bought a wheel really!) and I just like to powerslide round corners and feel awesome. Grid succeeds in this, even more so with a wheel. The feedback/rumble is awesome.
Unless they've radically redesigned the 6-speed shifter on the G27 from the G25, I may just pick up a DFGT.
I loved my G25, but the Clutch/6-speed shifter always left me feeling disconnected. (Probably because I drive a manual 6-speed daily) It never had a good chunky feeling and I would miss 2nd-3rd shifts all the time because it felt so vague. Because of that, I usually just used the paddle shifters.
Can anyone confirm/deny a shifter improvement in the G27?
EDIT: Although I can pick up a DFGT and a Wheel Stand Pro so I can finally play in my living room on the big-screen for the same price as a G27. Really makes it tough to decide now.

You've already got DiRT 2, so past that I can recommend Sega Rally Revo. It's all rallycross, but the cool thing about it is the terrain deformation in the track that is caused by the tires of the cars mixed with excellent force feedback effects is awesome. The game came out early enough that it doesn't have rumble on the PS3, so a wheel is the only way to get the effect.
Burnout Paradise also has excellent force feedback effects, driving on railroad tracks is an experience. It's an arcade racing game though, so it only uses 200° rotation instead of 900° rotation (because nine hundred degrees would be pretty ridiculous for a game like Burnout).
I also have Ridge Racer 7, which has middling to decent wheel support, but it's a lot of fun to play, and it's one of the few 1080p/60 games available for the PS3.
There is a list on Logitech's website detailing which games support which features for your new wheel here.

Well i got grid and nfs:shift.
So far nfs handles great on default settingsn. Its right in the middle of arcade and sim... i like both types of racers though, so no biggie. Of course I cant wait for the full GT5. edit: let me add that NFS:shift handles more than great... its fucking excellent in regards to the force feedback. Fighting the wheel feels natural and solid.... I played the demo first and it was decent, but the full game must have been improved cause now its right up there with how nice GT5:Prologue feels with the wheel with a bit of arcade aspects added in.
Grid... I'm sure I'm missing something cause I fishtail back and forth ALL the time for no apparent reason. Ive tried all the different settings people suggest, it helps a bit, but it still feels like the game plays worse with a wheel. Or am I just playing it wrong? I saw some say its all about the throttle, but when I let off the gas to gain control I just lose the race. I do notice i can keep it straight when easing off the gas, but it seems just wrong to have to do it so much.
I will look into the others people suggested too. Was wondering about the sega rally one. I like terrain deformation, like in motorstorm, but motorstorm doesnt have any force feedback from wheels from what Ive heard.
For those of you on the fence regarding the Driving Force GT, it is probably been reviewed as the best wheel on the market, even when compared to the G27. That might seem strange to most, considering it has no metal parts, is missing a proper stick shifter, a clutch and steel plating. But the force feedback is outstanding, the wheel is bigger than most others, and has amazing grip, pedals are extremely responsive, and the feel, oooh the feel :P. I have been playing Need for Speed Shift and F1 2010 on this thing and not once have I bitched about comfort, accuracy or quality of build. It's simply a great wheel. When you take into consideration that this wheel is meant for GT5, and the knob shifter and other buttons are not used by any other games at the moment you can only imagine how much more badass this will be.
Amazon has it again for 129.99 which does not include the $30 Logitech Mfr Rebate.

These are totally mappable on the PC, though. I haven't played any games with real-time adjustment or whatever, but I set the knob and the + and - buttons to control my media player while I play and it's pretty awesome.
Anyone looking for a game to play with their wheel should DEFINITELY try Sega Rally Revo. It's one of my favorite racing games, and since no one bought it, it's dirt cheap now. The force feedback is excellent, but I think it's a shame that racing wheels don't have plain old rumble motors in them as well, because the 360 (and PC) version's rumble effects are the best I've ever seen. It sucks to have to sacrifice one to have the other.
It sounds like the GT5 delay may've been because of the Stig troubles of at Top Gear/BBC. Apparently the Stig Challenges mode has been changed to Top Gear Challenges and he doesn't make an appearance at all.

I must have played 200+ hours of GT2, I still think it's my favorite of the series until now.
