I seem to remember the ages being somewhat reasonable in Final Fantasy VII too. I think that Cloud, Tifa, and Aeris were at least all in their 20s. Most of the rest of the characters were appropriately aged. The only one I can think of being a problem is Sephiroth, who seems awfully young to have people growing up looking up to him.
And as for Auron, as anecdotal evidence, I expect to have a gray streak by 35 at the rate I'm going.
Yeah - I forgot about that, honestly, the only FF game that was really *that* silly about ages was VIII - most of IX's cast was pretty young, but it did vary a bit too. Now that I actually think about it, FF hasn't been that bad overall compared to a lot of other jrpgs.
Yeah, I always pictured Sephiroth in his mid to late 20's myself. What are the ages in FFIV? Those strike me as older as well.
Cecil, Kain, and Rosa are 20, 21, and 19 respectively, but plenty of the other characters are older. Yang is 35, Cid is 54, Tellah is 60 and Fusoya is ancient.
I like that they gave The Emperor and Garland lead roles. There's not a whole lot there in their respective games, so this extra characterization and screen time is welcome.
Jecht is the only villain in Dissidia who doesn't seem like a complete jerk, he's just kind of there.
Which is really ironic when you think about it.
a deadbeat asshole is kind of small potatoes when put up against the other guys
so he just rolled up the sleeves he doesn't have and showed everyone you don't have to want to destroy creation to kick ass
Well, yes, sure. But I'd say that being a deadbeat, abusive, alcoholic is much more 'jerkish' than wanting to destroy the world, which is more...you know, 'crazy and evil'
Holy crap, maybe it's because I'm like 7 levels above the curve for the current Colliseum bracket, but it's actually fun to fight Chaos with Gabranth. In EX Mode, I actaully feel like I'm going toe-to-toe with him, rather than struggling against an overwhelming power.

Which is kinda funny, since in story terms, Gabranth should easily be the weakest of the characters, not having any special calling or powers or crystals or whatever.

Heh, really? Now that's something.
Also: I'm on like my best colisseum run ever up in here.
I've got a four-card hand with two Knights, a Ranger, and I've got a stockpile of 805 medalions. 805

Golbez is pretty pimp in the game. He's so wise Cosmos came to him for advice!
I love Jecht, but Golbez has some serious staying power.

In my first run through the colossium, I wasn't too impressed with my medallion output... Then I figured out what the Black Mage Job did.

I think someone earlier was asking about stage breaks and stage bravery?
That's how you beat someone at a much higher level than you.
You get a break on them and the stage bravery is added to your bravery. If they get a break on you, then they get the stage bravery added to their bravery.
Then the stage bravery goes to zero and starts draining from both sides.
I've had matches where I got my opponent in a corner and spammed nado with Terra until I got a break...and 2k bravery as a result

True, but with most characters that is easier said than done, as you will not be hitting a very high level character for much, and if you fuck up, they'll hit you for half your brave in one combo. Or in the case of one asshat I fought, your entire brave.
At really high levels with really difficult AI, you're shit WILL get broken fast. Go to Inward Chaos and see how fast you get molested...unless you have the strongest equipment in the game.
someday we will have a jrpg that doesn't insist on making all its characters adolescents except for one or two people in their thirties who will always be called 'old'
I know it's a different series, but this completely bugged me in Tales of Vesperia. Raven looks and sounds about thirty and the other characters treat him as if he was about twice that.

Well, they do that because it bugs him, not because they actually think he's ancient.
Anyway, so I got Dissidia 3 days ago, and I have to say it’s very addictive, I was surprised at the depth of the game play.
Just defeated Chaos with a level 79 Terra, who is now level 100 thanks to Duel Coliseum (too much fun).
I won’t be putting this game down for awhile, it seems.

I am a freaking nerd.

Edge is strangely older than Cecil despite being portayed as less mature at 24, Edward is also 24. Yang is in his mid 30s.
Tellah and Cid are late 50s. Palom & Porom are only 5 when they're sent up MOUNT DEATH

from our perspective, of course, statistically it was actually pretty optimal

I'm at the last of the good half(Tidus), so after that I'll probably do I-V.
Does Shade Impulse have anything to do with plot, or just extra fighting?

ahahah i fucking knew it
the only reason jecht's on the bad guys' side is because they didn't want him fighting against them

He is a summon... so that's at least a mention.

At least it's better than the one in FFVII. It's twice as much!

there were a decent number of black npc's in ffvii
hell there was even a black female npc model, though i think she only showed up in corel
Oh, right.
Digital Devil Saga had a handful.
D'awwww!
