So here's the general feel I've got so far on these questions:

    • How big is your franchise? How long have you been in operation?
    1) This question needs to be settled - I get the feeling from this ecclectic cast of characters we have that we are not yet a 'successful' ghostbusting unit. But this does not necessarily mean that we operate on a shoe-string budget or have never tried catching a ghost before. It just means that we have are at least mildly inept and notably unbalanced

    • Are you the Main Office? An established franchise? A start-up operation?
    2) We're our own independent shop. We probably don't have trouble with the local Ghostbusting 504 because we're so bad at it. In fact, those guys probably make fun of us for being so bad at it.

    • Where is your franchise located? How many people work there?
    3) We're in a haunted house - but where in the country? A southern voodoo spooktown (think Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil's Savannah or any gothic New Orleans)? A western boomtown that's got haunted mines and haunted indian burial grounds? A gothic BigCity by Night setting? Detroit?!

3.5) Does anybody work here but us? I'm kind of amused by the idea of a successful small catering service being run by our brand that none of us really have anything to do with. Barring that, we might need at least a secretary

    • Who runs the show? A board of directors or the agents themselves?
    4) Vin and Valentin run the show, right? Riiiight...

    • Do investors privately fund it or did you all max out your credit cards?
    5) The V's bankrolled it, but that doesn't mean they didn't have to get loans to open it. Would be interesting if any 'silent partners' suddenly decided to take more of an interest in their investment

    • What does your franchise look like? What amenities does it feature?
    6) Egos is working on it, but we probably need to describe more gear and such? Am I the only one who pictures us getting on 'the ride' to get in our robotic lions to go fight the ghosts? No? Voltron is cool guys, honestly...

    • Are you the only InSpectres franchise in the area? Are there any competitors?
    7) Do we have evil nemesissssss'? Do we look like a group of people who wouldn't? They're jerks!

    • What kinds of gear do you have access to? What do you use for transportation?
    8) Someone start making suggestions. No robot lions. Robot kittens however...

    • Do you have a specialty (ghosts, vampires, demons, crypto-zoology)?
    9) I'm going to go with Ghosts and Other Hauntings. If it is some kind of spectral or magical pest that has a tendency to move into inhabited areas and annoy the crap out of people on a regular basis, then we're all over it. Poltergeists, boogeymen, gnomes, wishing trolls, my ex-girlfriend, etc....

    Gear.
    • The EctoNabs'm 6000. An energy laser gun that zaps ghosts, separating their ectoplasm from the spiritual form, and collecting that for disposal. We all know, once you destroy the ectoplasm, you destroy the ghost.
    • Ghost Decoy - an ethereal scarecrow that draws ghosts to it, probably by wearing a sexy dress and showing some leg or something, I don't know
    • EMP De-Tek 40-12 SCAN-UNIT: uses science to give us vague information about the haunted area
    • Ghost Containment Unit - a cage for ectoplasm. Holds it there for 6 hours, no more no less (just for the fun of it). If the ectoplasm escapes or is released, the ghost immediately rejoins itself, all good to go.
    • Summerland Explorer - some sort of power armor that lets us go to a ghost world and interact with them temporarily. Probably malfunctions a bunch.

Billy Bob Van Helsing of the Van Helsings is in town. The smug jerk.

For transportation, how about bikes? (Unicycles, if I have my way. Mwahaha.)

    Summery, roll them dice.

Also, someone else should consider thinking of some inventory that can be used on other types of supernatural. Just in case.

I'd say our transportation should be some sort of van type vehicle, so we can transport all this junk we're gonna be hauling around everywhere. I dunno, perhaps if rolled well, it can have ghost detection equipment installed in the back, and will actually run!

Can you use IRC at the moment? Join irc.slashnet.org #criticalfailures

You could also set up an account on dicelog.com - I'll add you and we'll all roll dice in a single area. Or something.

    Yeah.

Well, how about this. Having all of the equipment be awesome and work okay will be a bit boring in my opinion. Why don't you roll once for each of the rest of these awesome gadgets? You've got Tech 4 anyway, you'll probably succeed at all of them!

I ended up getting a 5 as my highest tech roll for our ride. Megazver can back that up, 'cause I did in in the IRC channel. Now I just need to think of what we're drivin' around this crazy town.

And so far, we've been getting really good roles... this worries me.

    Hey, you're right!
The EctoNabs'm 6000. An energy laser gun that zaps ghosts, separating their ectoplasm from the spiritual form, and collecting that for disposal. We all know, once you destroy the ectoplasm, you destroy the ghost.

    5, my first roll.
Ghost Decoy - an ethereal scarecrow that draws ghosts to it, probably by wearing a sexy dress and showing some leg or something, I don't know.

    http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2255556/

A 6! It looks like a ghostly scarecrow, transparent and spooky from our side of the veil. It has a big goofy face and wiggles around slowly at random times. Ghosts get curious and are drawn in. Unfortunately, at first glance, it totally looks like a ghost to us as well, leading to some hilarious misunderstandings.
EMP De-Tek 40-12 SCAN-UNIT: uses science to give us vague information about the haunted area

    http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2255557/

A 5! Our "Give Us Information" button. Little bits of detail that push us towards making stronger conclusions, essentially. Looks like a big fat remote with a thousand buttons, dials, and blinking lights.
Ghost Containment Unit - a cage for ectoplasm. Holds it there for 6 hours, no more no less (just for the fun of it). If the ectoplasm escapes or is released, the ghost immediately rejoins itself, all good to go.

    http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2255559/

A 5! A small black box with caution tape. Can only hold the ectoplasm for so long.
Summerland Explorer - some sort of power armor that lets us go to a ghost world and interact with them temporarily. Probably malfunctions a bunch.

    http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2255563/

A 5! It's a big makeshift set of power armor, and we've got two of them. They're made out of random crap - think the bots on MST3K. Lots of wires and lights. Moves slowly. You get in it, and it zaps into the ghost place of residence, the ghost world, leaving behind a spectral glow in OUR world of where the pilot actually is. Can do: basic manipulation, shoot flares, pin down ghosts with a mid-range laser thingy, throw crap, stomp on things.

Well, after all that awesome, my idea for our transportation will be kinda lame.

I was thinking a generic sort of surveillance van, with ghost detection equipment in the back. It'll be more of a wide area thing, so it'll tell us if something is within a so-and-so mile radius of us, but it just gives a very general location. I'm also thinking that one person can stay there, if need be, and keep in radio contact with everyone while keeping track of what ghost activity is going on.

Oh, and it will be a mostly reliable vehicle, it's not some pos old van that breaks down have the time.

I would like to take the opportunity to point out that ghosts aren't the only kind of supernatural you might encounter in the game. Specialisation is good, but you need to prepare for other contingencies as well!

And the van needs something funny about it. Maybe you bought it for cheap from Hello Kitty corporation and didn't have money to repaint it, so you just drew some fangs and scary red eyes here and there. Or maybe the van is actually a remade cart from one of the rides. Or something!

Oh... well... drat, didn't think about dealing with other creatures.

Oh! What if it used to be an ice cream van before we got it. It was quite a steal for the condition it was in. But, we soon learned why it was being sold so cheap. The jingle that plays over the speakers got stuck somehow, so whenever the van is running, it plays over and over.

Or would that be too annoying?

Alright, I figured that would be a bit much, but I'll stick with it looking like an ice cream van. Eh, we were buying all this technical stuff, why would we spend extra just to get it repainted? Oh! It should have some sort of ice cream cone sign on top of it.

And, I'm afraid your hint is powerless on me, because I haven't seen Vampire Hunter D.

So - We need to think of some non-spectral kind of equpiment

We need to decide what kind of town/city we're operating in

We need to figure out how many NPCs we have on staff and what they do

I'm really blanking on equpiment here. There's got to be something to use against trolls/vampires/werewolves/etc that doesn't involve staking, stabbing, or burning. Something creative. Like dog biscuits? And.. and.. really lengthy legal documents? If vampires have to count every grain of sand then they certainly need to parse dense legal information... That's it, we definitely need an NPC lawyer and paralegal on the team to write up hilariously lengthy summons (HA) and notices of eviciton.

Also, I'm leaning towards the Southern Gothic/Voodoo lots of trees, rivers and big old houses kind of setting, but I can easily be swayed here

I say we all get archery equipment. Because guns may make us seem too bad ass..?

(there is always the Holy Water Squirt Gun introduced via Dennis Miller)

how about a Sun Gun for the vampires....we can harness the power of the sun (though that would be a bit powerful...by a bit I mean ridiculously so)

You don't need to prepare too much, because you can always give yourself something in-game with a confessional, but having something against vampires, werewolves, mummies, zombies, lawyers, cultists, ancient gods, Republicans, poltergeists, boogeymen or skinwalkers would be nice!

A lawyer, a receptionist, a cranky janitor and maybe a loveable talking animal could all work.

I'm Russian, so I'm not sure how well I'll be able to portray the flavor of the American cities, but hey, pick what you think would be cool and I'll try.
