As per usual, this is your one-stop shop for all discussions SMT and/or Persona, DemiKids, Devil Summoner/Survivor, etc., related.

New P3P Boxart:

fc4qo4.jpg

And infos:
- A completely new female S. Link (Rio Iwasaki) associated with the sports teams, Tennis or Volleyball.
- Another new female character S. Link, Saori Hasegawa (perhaps replacing the Kenji "Best Friend Schoolmate" type?)
- Ken S. Link with female MC
- Akihiko S. Link with female MC
- A screen from the female perspective shows the School Council president on the rooftop. If he's an S. Link, this is the first screen that's showed an arcana conflict for a specific MC, so something is likely to change.
- Another screen shows the female MC on one of the Koro walk scenes, meeting the helmet teacher (who has artwork now). Didn't you only meet party members or S. Links during the walks? He could be the replacement for the Hermit S. Link for the male MC, as that one was kind of gender specific.
- Dating scenes with Theodor.
- Generic character blurbs for Ahihiko, Ken, and Fuuka

Most of the hottest news involves the most popular SMT side-series, Persona, so some stuff on that:

p3p.jpg

Persona 3 Portable includes a new female protagonist, more Persona(namely a female Orpheus[Eurydice?]), and most likely new social links.

p3p4.jpg
p3pf.jpg

I assume the game will mostly be unchanged, aside from different dialogue and links.

Will the infamous ending stay the same for P3F?
Let's hope not.

p3p_003.jpg

The interface has been slightly(okay, drastically) modified for P3P. Instead of moving around freely, most everything done outside of Tartarus will be done with menus.

The battles should be unchanged, far as I can tell.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp82eZsxajk

Also, P3F will include a shiny pink interface, as opposed to P3M's dominate blue.

p3fj.jpg

Will Junpei be her Yukari? Doesn't take an ace defective to figure that one out.

Whether or not the changes are to your liking, the new OP is all kinds of hot:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MRkM-fM7wg

It's due for a November release in Japan. For us? I guess we can only wait and see.

Until then, don't forget about what the US does have coming in September:

persp.jpg

Though the PSP rules Persona, the DS still gets a little love from old-school SMT:

sj-1.png

Not to mention the preexisting:

devilsurvivor_boxart_small_stroke.jpg

I might touch this up in the future, because I had to make this somewhat suddenly(thanks Apotheos :P), but until we hear about the US release of P3P,

lpt.jpg

Also, everyone convince Apotheos to finish P3 proper. He's got time.

Why would they change the ending to P3? It worked.

    Fair enough.
I mean, I was sad. And I'd be devastated to actually have a girl who I identify with (as opposed to the arms-length separation with a guy) die on me like that. But it does make thematic sense...and would probably wreck it for new players. All -6 of them at this point.

Changing the ending would be stupid. And also it would run completely counter to the themes that exist throughout the entire game.

Indeed, it's quite fine the way it is. It may not have been all sunshine and lollipops but it was quite fitting for the story.

I am nearing the end of my first P3 playthrough, and was wondering what the best place to level up is. I am 72 and haven't had any trouble so far.
Also, I still have 26 days left in January and have reached the top of Tartarus, so everything is open to me.
I'd like to beef up my levels though so I can get some of the higher level personas.

I actually picked up a PSP about a week ago, and I was already a huge fan of P3, so you can imagine the bits of news here make me VERY happy. My point of curiousity is this: Is character development / character interaction strong in the DS games for SMT? Those are my biggest selling points for games, and I'd need a pretty strong reason to justify buying a DS at this point in time, besides "it has more Atlus games to devour your time" (It's close, but just not enough)

    FES. I heard that
Monad is not unlocked automatically by reaching the top floor, and I don't think I'm strong enough to kill the Reaper yet, so I need somewhere to level in Tartarus, at least for a few more levels.

I've been on the highest floors, I just didn't know if there were certain enemies or things to do to help it go faster. I didn't max Emperor but I think it is pretty close. I kind of played the game blind and without a guide for the majority of it, so I may not have done the best Maxing of S.Links.

I will also try to take down the Reaper then and see how things go from there.

Generally, the best xp gains on any given level are from turning up green vine/growth cards on elite/red fights. I levelled through most of p3 just getting one or two levels each from those.

Yes, you should, especially 3. Girl edition.

Having gone through the beginning of P4...the end of the Woglinde (first area) in Xenosaga I, with the solid hour of cutscenes (seriously, there are two save points in case you want to get up and make popcorn 20 and 40 minutes in) felt longer, at least.

Yeah, the intro was great because they did a great job of laying the story out and introducing the main characters. Since Social Links and the camaraderie of the core group are vital to the game, I don't think it would quite be the same without it.

So I've been trying to get back into Devil Survivor, but I'm having some trouble with a battle on Day 5:
It's the battle where Mari needs to kill Kudlak. No matter what I do, she never seems to be able to kill him. My latest attempt left him at 26 HP, and she attacked and did a grand total of NEGATIVE 37 while taking 300 some odd damage, then promptly getting killed by whatever monster happened to be nearby.

Am I just having terrible luck?

Yes and no. That battle SUCKS and is fairly luck based, but there are things you can do to speed up the process.
Most important is to surround Kudlak ASAP. He starts against a wall, and Mari will go up to him her first turn, so get two people over to him before he gets a turn. You may need Devil Speed/Flight for that for one of them, but he's definitely in range.

Also useful is to have someone else Switch (Avatar ability) with Kaido as he'll never take Kudlak below 1 HP. Also, Kudlak can be petrified so it's worth a try to do that if nothing else is working. Otherwise, just have your dudes get Kudlak down as much as possible without killing him. It's a really annoying battle, but nothing unbeatable

The dual keyblade battle was fucking awesome. The only thing that matched it was the Roxas fight they added to Final Mix. That fight was really fun and it's a shame they didn't include it in the US release.

Anyway, about how long is the original Persona? There's so much stuff coming out next month that I'd like to know what kind of investment I'm looking at for it.

It's not too long, if you aren't doing both the main quest and the Snow Queen Quest. It's kind of hard to judge since I've played it before and so can get through it quicker, but...maybe 30-40 hours? Ish?
