Yeah, that's the trick with melee in Champions, you can't dabble in it. You need to purchase at least two powers within a set to make it work.

    Explain?

The majority (not entirity) of melee powers require a specific passive to fully unlock, particularly the martial arts sets.

Since I went through the trouble of getting the numbers, I might as well post them. I wanted to see the base numbers for Invuln and Regen. I took a new character through the tutorial and crisis, then respec'd out of all the stat-changing perks I had and got bumped to level 40.

Here's my results. Both powers are rank 3. Note that the "base" numbers are with all stats at 5, which is their minimum.

Invuln Base: 22% Resistance, 46 Reduction
    with 85 Str/Con: 31% Resistance, 53 Reduction

On my character that hit 20 before the boost (and had 20-ish items), I had 135 Con, and got 37% Resistance out of it. With level 40 UNITY items, I would wager that one might get 45-50% Resistance, and 58-60 Reduction. Note that with Defense from items, total Resistance will probably be in the 75-85% range.

    Regen Base: 271 Hp/2 sec
    with 85 Presence: 271 Hp/2 sec

Regeneration is not affected by any stats, nor is the healing in Resurgence (or the Chi healing, for that matter).

A bunch of powers don't work with on-next-hit powers (Sonic Device, Toxic Nanites, etc.). Some of them consume the on-next-hit power (the next attack you do doesn't apply the on-next-hit) but some of the do not consume, so I'm not really sure what was intended.

So here's my prelim build order for my main, I'm thinking a mix of telepath/TK. I will gladly entertain notes and criticism. Also, is it better to have a few powers at rank 3, or getting the specific advantages for each power, like I have done?

I submitted a bug earlier, but here is a copy of the text (A few more items are in the actual bug report as this was a backup copy):
On-Next-Hit powers do not work with some powers.

The following powers consumed the on-next-hit power but did not apply the effects (subsequent attack did not apply the on-next-hit effects)
    -Orbital Cannon
    -Flashfire
    -Ball Lightning
    -Flashfire
-Sparkstorm (this worked with Sonic Device but not the others)
    -Entangling Mesh
    -Thunderstrike
    -Electrocute
    -Field Drones Overload power

The following powers did not consume the on-next-hit power but did not apply the effects (subsequest attack applied the on-next-hit effects):
    -Particle Mine
    -Fire Snake

The On-Next-Hit powers I tested were:
    -Sonic Device
    -Toxic Nanites
    -Miniaturization Drive

Some of this may be by design.

I didn't test every single power, but hopefully that's enough to get things going.

I believe Regen scales with Recovery, not Presence. That was my anecdotal observation, at least, from swapping out various equipment I had on hand at the time. Can't speak for the MA (chi) healing power though.

My guys and I kicked off our weekly Champions Online Podcast tonight. Our podcast will be available hopefully every Wednesday and follow Champions online.

Our first episode introduces us, discusses our MMO history, dives into our character plans, beta thoughts and how we plan on playing the game. We try to provide some insight, tips, and discussion. Once the game goes lives we will provide "deeper" discussion of the live mechanics, stats, etc... Right now we just wanted to introduce ourselves and get some feedback.

Anyone know if there is a compiled list of weapons somewhere? Hopefully with images?

I know it may be "spoilers" but it would be so helpful for creating a theme. For instance, a munitions character with a combat knife or two makes more sense than one with katana or axes or warhammers, but I don't know if knives are in the game or what set they would be under (I could actually reason them being in all 4 martial arts).

So I managed to get some info out of Antiproton, rewards guy, about the end game upgrades. I couldn't get him to answer what the "best" upgrades are however.
Sure, you will get 8 UNITY Merits from the dailies + 6 key fragments. If you are pure solo you can avoid ever buying a key and just turn it in for 6 more Merits. 14 Merits a day means you can get a Purple quality Upgrade from UNITY from 18 days of dailies. Group players earn 48 a day meaning they get a Purple quality Upgrade in 6 days of dailies including the Lairs.
Pure solo players are expected to get more endgame Upgradesfrom Nemesis than UNITY, hardcore group players are expected to get more from UNITY than Nemesis. Crafting is to fill in specific needs that aren't served by those sets/convert random drops into high quality endgame Upgrades. Cosmics Supervillains drop purples too for the folks who can join in on taking them down. PVP rewards include Purple quality endgame sets so that people who want to PVP instead of PVE have a route too.

Just a heads up, to get all nine pieces of the UNITY gear it will take 90 days in a group or 220 days solo.

Oh yeah? Well I'm gonna do group UNITY, Nemesis, Crafting, and PVP.
and it will still take me 483 days to get a full set

EDIT: So, I just tested Regen with Recovery. Eighty points of recovery translates into +1hp/2 sec. I am unimpressed.

some things marked as melee that activate laser knight but don't scale up with str:
    bullet ballet
    gauntlet chainsaw
    inexorable tides
    bite

    my tank? uh whatever build
    Str/con
    mighty
    enduring
    physical conditioning
    paramiliary training
    covert ops training
    jack of all trades

    clobber - clobber (25% interupt)
    roomsweeper - concussive blow (shock/stun)
hurl - rubble trouble (stop travel power)
hamaker - nullifying punch (stops regen!)
    enrage - r2, r3
    invulnerable - r2, r3
    energy shield - laser knight
nanobot swarm - r2, rejuvenating injectors
    miniturization drive - reciprocating gizmo
unbreakable - better you than me
    micro munitions - challenging strikes
    resurgance
    thunderbolt lunge - essence assault
    rebirth

Resurgence actually scales with Constitution. Base value with like 13 Con at 40 was like 2700, when I took Super Con it jumped to like 4,500. With talents I got it up to a 5.2k heal. Bountiful Chi Resurgence however scales with neither Con nor Presence.

Didn't think to check any other stats, because they would make no sense to scale with for a healing power.

    Super Group Names!

So, are we ever going to have a poll to pick the supergroup name? Or is it "whoever gets to 10 first picks the name?"

If I get to 10 first I am going to call the super group "Whoever gets to 10 first picks the name"

I was rooting for Project G.I.F.T., but I'm now leaning towards "I Sued Cryptic For False Advertising And All I Got Was This Lousy Lifetime Subscription".

I like it, but I think it is too long.

Yeah, it'd be nice if we could establish some consensus on what people want for the Super Group. I thought we would have a nice window between Open Beta and the Head Start to discuss it, but that window's closing fast thanks to extensions. We really need to know who's committed to playing, how committed they are, and what names they do/don't want. And I'd personally avoid an actual forum poll since people will vote on it even if they aren't getting the game.

Anyway, here are the names from earlier that people have shown interest in, but barely any of you commented on and I spent way too much time digging through the thread for all of this to let it go to waste and now this run-on will end with a colon:
Project G.I.F.T. (Incenjucar, Elementalor, freakish light, Lawndart)

    The Lookouts (Just_Bri_Thanks, TracerBullet, Foefaller)

Millennium City Hotsteppers (freakish light, yaysayer)

C.A.P.E. / Certified Avengers for Perilous Encounters (Inx, Xabora)

    World Anti-Negativity Group (Anti-Nemesis?) (Foefaller)

The Arcadian League (because it would piss of PikaPuff) (Incenjucar)

    something involving Broodax (Elementalor)

    the P.A.C.T. / Penny-Arcade Crimefighting Team (SanderJK)
the P.A.L.S. / Penny-Arcade League of Superheroes (SanderJK)

    Merch Squad (Xabora)

    Darkmagic (Elimination)

    The New Hampshire Darkmagics (PikaPuff)

    Stalagmen (Biosys)

We Are Nice Guys / W.A.N.G. (Harlon)

    Deep Crow Hunters (Wallhitter)

Any chance people would be willing to reply with which names they love, hate, and how much they're committing to Champions? (Life-time/6-month/Pre-order/Wait & See/Fuck You I'm Playing Aion/olol [Statesman/Roper])

    Empty questions for easy copy/paste:
    Commitment:

    Love:

    Hate:

    And mine...
    Commitment: Life-time

Love: Millennium City HotSteppers & World Anti-Negativity Group

Hate: The Lookouts (feels too much like a theme group name) & Deep Crow Hunters (never understood the Deep Crow fascination)

to get all nine pieces of the UNITY gear it will take 141 days in a group or 483 days solo

This is actually wrong now. It turns out there was a bug that was causing certain items to have the incorrect merit cost. It's now a little under 90 days for group and just under 220 days solo. Something like that I think.

*edit* Silly me, to think that solo was only double the time.

Weird, I could get a full salvo with my Endurance builder, Rocket pods and Shoulder cannon if they had targeting computer

Maybe I just didn't have it set up right. It doesn't really feel like my sort of powerset anyway.

Shoulder Rocket only fires one shot. It's not a toggle, really, it's more like a hands-free charge power, like Orbital Cannon. Once the timer is up, you shoot a rocket.

It's actually quite effective, especially in PvE. Works like the Sniper attack, only you don't get interrupted and you can move around while it's charging. Oh, it does more damage, too.

    RE: Thunderbolt Lunge

No longer costs 1 energy and now has a recharge timer.

This is on my internal machine so I'm not sure if this is live, though it will be by head start.

    Aaaaaand goodnight.

Isn't live as of a few minutes ago, but the servers just went down sooo. :P

I decided to mess around with a Claws character and saw the fabled TB Lunge and decided to see what the fuss was about.

Amusingly enough, I think I can kick more ass with spamming Fire Breath, but that may just be because of the horrible object collisions that tend to come with yo-yoing around the screen.

I like how Force is essentially what telekineses shouldve been.

In other news, my telekinetic character is going to primarily use force skills

Yeah, just dip into the Telekinesis pool to take the actual Telekinesis power, which lets you pick up and throw shit with your mind

It's based on your Ego stat, which should be high on a Force character anyway
