Just a heads up, but since you can auto-level to fourty, you can do the crisis at Lemuria and Monster Isle events, too, and presumably explore those zones if they're in. I noticed the quests near the auto-leveler guy.
Also, I was wondering if anyone had any clue as to how you get the perk's in this event, for live.
I heard those zones were closed for at least most of open beta. Don't know if they are open now or not. I am guessing if they have been closed they did not open them for this... but not sure.

When I do, I gotta see if my TK hero is low enough to retcon her out of Ego. If she is, I might have a tank for us for the first 30 minutes of the beta event. (after that, I got work )
As someone who hasn't played at all in the beta....how would you describe the TK abilities? Are you able to throw things around in the environment, force-like knockbacks, and hold abilities? Does Force play entirely different than this set? I"m still confused as to why TK and Force are two different sets.
The best way to put it would be that Force is Jean Grey/Invisible Woman sans Invisiblity, and TK itself is more Psylocke.
Force is more of a stand back and pummel with knocbacks, almost like a ranged Might in that regard, with some buffs. TK is mostly melee with Psychic Blades, with a couple AoEs and the Telekenisis Power.
It seems one of the last patches broke sorcery. The tree was split into several, and now low level skills don't count as prereqs for skills that require X number of sorcery skills. Not sure if this is just with existing characters or for new ones also.
Not sure how you think this game is more story driven. Definitely not correct at all from what I've seen so far. More variety in mission types != more story driven. Also, I don't understand why people "wait" to try out MMO's 30-60 days after release? Who cares if they fixed the problems if everyone has left. If you want to play it at all pick it up play your free month and quit at the end.
I don't think this game is very good but it's fun and I'm going to play it for a few weeks and then drop it. It's self evident that it is not finished in every single category, but Cryptic is obviously out of money and needs to release it now. People will play it for a month then move on, just like they do with every MMO that was released to early.
It IS more story driven than CoX, that's not even really up for debate. You could never read a single mission text in CoX and blindly guess what's going on. "Oh, you want me to go kill 15 more Hellions in an office building? Mmm, yes".
The reason I am waiting is precisely that I want to see if the game survives. MMO's are a total waste of money if you plan to pick it up, play it for two weeks, and then go on to something else. You just spent 65 bucks (at least) for a two-week game experience. You could have gotten much more bang for your buck spending that 60 bucks on a new console game that is only going to hold you for two weeks, but it's going to be a really good two weeks. MMO's are something I play for the long haul. If a community never develops around an MMO, there is no reason to play it.

Why do people keep quoting 60 or 65 dollars as the price of the game? It's fifty dollars plus tax, which is like three or four bucks.
One of the things I hate about MMORPGs, or rather maybe about myself, is how I get drawn into the game during the beta and then I buy the game and I get bored in a couple of weeks. This is probably going to happen with Champions but I'm going to buy the game anyway because that is my nature and there is no hope for me. It's honestly a waste of money to buy an MMORPG and then play for a month. The value in an MMORPG lies in its longevity. At two weeks I think you get better gameplay from a singleplayer game for your money.
Also, did anyone get a code for the newsletter action figure yet? I've been wondering when they'd come.
I've theoretically been signed up for the newsletter since sometime last year and I haven't received an email from Cryptic other than my subscription confirmation since they announced the final day of closed beta.

This is pretty much me as well. I get all excited about an MMO, usually after playing in the 'open' beta, then I buy it and quit before the included month is done. The only MMO that's managed to hold me is WoW, which I've subscribed to consistantly since 2006. :P
But yeah, I'm definitely considering a purchase of Champions as well, even knowing that I'll probably tire of it before my 30 days are up. There's just lots of fun to be had in the game... I love making costumes and the combat is generally very good. With some balancing and continued content updates, it could get even better.

50 + 15 = 65. I guess you could count the free-month and say it's only 50, but that doesn't disprove my point. Buying an MMO to play for two-weeks is completely contrary to the purpose of an MMO: To play for the long haul. Id rather spend my 50 or 60 gaming bucks on a good single player game if that's all I'm looking to get out of it.
Which is why I say, I'll wait to see how healthy Champions is in a couple months. If it's looking strong, with good developer support, I'll pick it up. If we have another AoC on our hands that ends up a ghost town in three months, I'll wait for something else to come along.
It's definitely not ready for release, but they have to release it anyway (probably because of money issues). We'll see how fast they can fix the broken stuff, and how many people are willing to put up with the obvious issues.

No, I was agreeing with your point about getting your money's worth. And yeah, I do count the free month because if you quit two weeks into the game you don't pay any fifteen dollars. I don't buy the game, wait a month for the free month to expire and then start playing.
Champions is the #2 most active MMO on TenTonHammer (as of last night) -- I would say there is at least a lot of interest. WoW being #1 which makes sense most users and they just announced their 3rd expansion.

I'm just trying to think of all the times I've canceled before the free month was up on an MMO. The only one I can think off the top of my head was AoC, and that's on it's way to going down as legendary in the annals of MMO failure. So in those cases where I didn't cancel before the free month, the experience cost me 65 bucks, but I'll concede your point that if you quit within the first month, it's only 50 bucks.
I hope CO is successful and none of this matters, I'm just in wait and see mode.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to wait a month or two to see how the game pans out. I probably should do the same. But I can't because I'm an awful person.

Omg how can you stand that level of Bloom, it looks like everything is about to turn into plasma. I turned that down to low about 5 seconds into the game.

The bloom on my character is awful because he's completely white. When the sun hits him it's like a friggin' mirror.
I am just not digging the art direction in this game. Every screen shot I see reinforces that.

Honestly I don't think the game should even have bloom. It's supposed to be cell shaded and have a comic book feel. Now, I haven't read comic books seriously in years, but I don't remember them ever being overbright like bloom effects. I guess we are just in that era of video game graphics where the answer is "turn up the bloom!".
On an unrelated note, the 'ice flight' power steers like a goddamn brick.
I all set to make an ice character, got her up past the tutorial, then the first thing I do (since its like the whole idea behind the character) is choose ice flight.
Then I tried it.
I think if I ever decide to go with an ice character is to (ironically) choose fire flight then make the flames blue. I dunno, but I just really don't like that ice flight.
On the other hand, I am really liking rocket jump more than I thought I would. Bounding across the map in leaps and bounds is pretty fun, though it kinda sucks when you go into some cave instance with a really low ceiling. :x
Actually now that I think about it, is there someway to move rocket jump/flight to come from your back (my robot armor character has a jetpack thingy on her back)? I don't think I ever looked to see if that was possible.
Yes Ice Slide sucks, apparently in earlier betas it actually had the slide effect from the qwyjibo loading screen. The fall on stop the heavy inertia and slow turning and such make ice slide useless. I also took fire flight and colored the flames blue and it works well.
As for the jetpack thing, someone asked on the forums and the response was that the packs auto scale with the avatar, so there are no steady attachpoints for the flames to appear from, so they can't do it at this time.
The art direction was one of my early complaints when I started playing the open beta. I did get used to it the more I played, but I can see it being a problem for others still.
Also, I think the bloom in this game is terrible and I turned it off completely. I should probably set it to 'low' at least, to get some of the effects, but yeah it's out of control. To be fair, I also turned the 'full screen glow' shit off in WoW also.
dig would be nice if it could dig up vertically and not just stairs and hills. also getting blocked by curbs and foot high walls seems pretty dumb
Both dig and swinging need the ability to climb walls quickly, or to hold on a wall and just sit there. you would think someone capable of digging through solid earth would be able to dig his claws in just enough to climb walls too.
if this game tanks lifetime subscribers are going to be fuuucked
Well they just have to make it thirteen months to get their money's worth.
Yeah, and it's worth keeping in mind that even failed MMO's like Tabula Rasa, Auto Assault and Hellgate London (although that was more like Guild Wars with a monthly fee tacked on for no particular reason) tend to last longer than 13 months.
I find it really works in game for me, but every screenshot I've taken turned out butt ugly. I think it's just ( yet another ) one of thoose games that look alot better in motion. WoW was very much the same way for me.

Didn't the Matrix Online shut down just a couple months ago? I can't understand why anyone would think this game will shut its servers down anytime soon.

I just have the "recommended" settings enabled right now. Once the game goes live I will probably mess with it, but with it being patched daily I didn't want to break a graphical feature.
Yes once the headstart begins I will be playing with my graphical settings. Those are the recommended graphic settings that Champions set when I first launched it.
I didn't really understand what went into recommending my video settings. It set several things kinda low for me, which I thought was lame.
The first thing I do when I get into any new game is crank up the video settings to max. That's what I did with this game, and it runs smooth like glass.
Then I turned down the bloom when it nearly blinded me.

I don't think it will shut down it's servers. I mean hell, AoC is still going. But if it ends up not doing well, the community might slow down so much that people would want to leave, but can't because they've already paid for it, and it would be a waste of money.
Champions at least is only running one server, so regardless of how many people stick around or not, the community won't get fractured over many servers that end up under populated and cause even more people to leave before mergers happen.
Also to be fair, I just noticed on the actual announcment, that it ends 11:59 PM, not AM...
here I was, freaking out that I wouldn't get the time to kill Destroids untill because I couldn't long in in the 30 minutes I have before work... silly me :P

I really like what they're doing with the server and instances. Makes it so easy to get together with friends.
Though it was difficult herding everyone into one instance earlier so that we could group together to fight the destroids. Lots of instances fill up quickly.
