I was kinda surprised when Panther (Protomen singer) told me his real name when we were talking

They all have such over-the-top stage personas but his actual name was like, wow, that is very mundane

    Jeff?

    Joe?

    something with J?
    Wayne

As we were leaving the venue, the blue Mega-styled motorcycle helmet was just sitting on top of one of their amps

The temptation to grab it and run like hell was really strong

Every time people have gone on about Protomen before I never looked into it. But now songs are being posted I actually kind of dig it. I guess I'll have to look into them with my zune pass whenever I get around to buying it

    only if you're into acoustic

    e: unicorns.

I saw them in athens once. I have never seen a band less interested in doing a show. The lead singer ranted for like twenty minutes about being from canada and how america sucks. I have never seen a worse performance and this includes high school talent shows.

e e: p.s. we told them to break up and they did

So this is the first time I'm listening to The Protomen.

And the music is good, but once you get the story behind the music it gets like 5x better.

My only complaint about the Protomen is that sometimes it can be kind of hard to make out the words.

Which is kind of important, considering that the lyrics tell a story.

yeah, sometimes their levels are really not great

but from what I've heard of the new stuff it's been fixed

I dunno, one of the hardest ones for me to make out is the Breaking Out demo. You're right that they fixed the levels so that the guitar doesn't drown out the vocalist, but he mumbles a lot on that song. I could only figure out about 10% of the words in that song before looking up the lyrics. Then again, it is a demo so maybe he's more articulate on the final album version!

I checked the Amazon preview, he is much more understandable

I had never heard of this band until last night. I've basically listened to the album like 832948 times since then. It is awesome. Really really good. And I've never played a Mega Man game or been interested in the story at all.

I never played Mega Man either, honestly

The great thing is that the original Mega Man backstory is so sparse that by this point, the Protomen's story is very nearly its own entity, what with the much more complex relationships and motives of the heroes and villains

and Act II looks to be even better in that regard; they're pretty much in new territory by now

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen it, this is the description from their news page of their CD release show on Sept. 25
As some of you may have expected, the show is going to happen at Mercy Lounge in Nashville (what can we say, we like those assholes). What some of you won’t expect is that we are going to have TWO stages. A 10 Piece String Section. 10 Member Choir. An Unnumbered Horn Section. …and we will play the entirety of Act’s I&II back to back.

years ago, back when napster was the new hotness, i found a metal version of the Bubble Man theme that sounded great and better than any I have heard since

it's not the one by the minibosses or that other band, uh, ninten-something I think?
