I'm trying to set up the music streaming on the 360, and it gives me this 8 diget code on the xbox, then tells me to go to xbox.com/pcsetup on the pc, which I did, then followed the instructions in WMP 11, but it never asked me for the 8 diget code on the PC. What am I missing here? The 360 won't recognize the PC, and I can't figure out where the hell I'm supposed to enter this code.

Oh... wow, I'm kinda dumb, huh? And that ain't even sarcasm. Windows Media Center is a program rather than a function of XP huh?
Well that sucks.
It comes standard on Win 7 but all other previous windows you have to get the premium or Media Center version for it to have it. You have to have media center to have the media center on your 360 work. There are ways of cirbumventing the media center though that are very easy to do. I will post them later when i am not drunk from being at my friends house, and can remember the free media center program than i cannot remember right now. I know the program works for both ps3 and 360 though, somone else here probably knows it. I just havn't used it in a while and for the life of me cannot remember the name.
Just use Windows Media Player, you can stream music, pictures, and movies that way, you just select the file through the 360 interface rather than the Media Center Extender.

This isn't as easy as it's make out to be. I was trying to find a link to a tutorial, but I came up empty in my 30 second search.
This is all predicated that you are storing your media on one device while the X360 is on the same local network.
Use WMP to share your files. Make sure the files you want shared are in shared folders and go through the "sharing media" dialog in WMP. In addition, you'll want to just make sure that all shared folders are marked as "shared" in Windows Explorer (properties).
You can now access them by going to your "Video library" on the 360 and select the device that the media is on. If everything checks out, it should pop up in this menu at the end.
If you have any issues, google can point you toward a tutorial with keywords like "media sharing" "xbox360" etc.
This is how I share my media, after having massive headaches with Media Center.

I've used that method to watch stuff with my 360, it works alright. I have issues with the 360 updating its list though, I find that I have to open new files with Windows Media Player (even if the directory is shared) in order for the 360 to recognize the new files. Your mileage may vary, though.

I've never had as bad an issue, but it tends to "refresh" at a strangely slow rate. Usually exiting the interface and getting back in corrects, for me.
Well, the whole problem started that my 360 is sometimes reading my portable hard drive, and sometimes not. Is there any known reason why this may be happening? I was thinking about it this morning, and my thoughts were that maybe the Hard Drive can't be plugged in while I turn the 360 on? I'll have to test that.

Never had a problem, here, with hitting the on-switch with a drive plugged in. Sounds like faulty hardware, how old is your box? The general heat issues that the machine has could explain it, it could also be over-use (plug, unplug, plug, unplug) just causing wear and tear.
Hmmm... a little over a year old? The USB seems to accept the rockband stuff fine. The hard drive works fine with my computers, but when I go to the media center, sometimes the hard drive shows up, sometimess not. I will see if it has anything to do with it being plugged in when switched on tonight.

With any Microsoft product, they keep close to the heart (er... dollar?) in not allowing "unauthorized" hardware into their system. While they accept USB connections from 3rd party unrelated devices, they also seem much more finicky in their performance.
I've never had a huge issue with plugging in a HD or USB Flash. Sometimes it takes a little to get the system to recognize it.

Its free, legal, and easy to set up though.
TVersity?
Thats the one. I used to use this on my old PC and also for my PS3 when i had it and had zero issues, and the web site for TVersity was really helpful on providing info on how to use the program for both consoles.

I use it as well and like it, but my only complaint is I can't add folders en masse as certain files tend to crash it. I have to do it one folder at a time.
