In 1971, President Nixon proposed a national health insurance plan built on heavily employer private coverage. Senator Ted Kennedy proposed what would today be called a single-payer plan. In 1974, the debate had morphed into Nixon vs. Kennedy-Mills vs. Organized labor. Despite the prediction in the second clip shown, the result was stalemate rather than passage in 1974 or 1975.

Yes "imploding", "unsustainable", and "precarious" are much better adjectives than what have been associated with our system.

Which is unfair, expensive, and out of reach. Good analogy.

Of the 85% within reach, how many are on a government program already?

Our system is equally fucked. As a payer into the system, you should be equally pissed that your rates keep going up and up to cover the people who don't have insurance while millionaires make talking points in the press about should there be socialism and the government fucking it up for you vs should we let private companies fuck us.

Yes, one of the main problems is that the cost of health care premiums, etc. is going up more than wages, so you're paying more of a percent of your income for health care every year.

I agree the system is flawed but I disagree that single-payer is the solution for us. I would rather see market-based solutions like increasing competition among insurers rather than letting states build monopolies within their lines for huge companies. I can get a loan and buy a car out of state but I can't get insurance out of state. It's fucking stupid.

No shit there's problems. I didn't say they were perfect, but its a million times better than the current US system :)

If it can't be 100% perfect then there is no sense in trying.

Even in that 85%, there are people who are technically insured, but their coverage is way below what it should be, due to outrageous premiums.

Only days before, Kennedy had left the scene of a fatal car crash on the small island of Chappaquiddick on Martha's Vineyard, taking the life of 28-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne.

The second-term senator waited nearly 10 hours to report the accident and offered virtually no explanation other than he "panicked."

So, anyone else hear about how birthers now want to see Obama's dong because if he was born in 'Merica he would be cut (standard practice at the time of his birth or some shit) and if he still has his sheath he's a secret muslin Kenyan sleeper agent?
