The burden of inspection is on them, it's not quite like full disclosure if you were selling a house where there was a triple murder/homicide and meth lab.
How old is the trade in? Anything more than 6-7 years is just going to get parted out anyway, or stuck on a junker lot. The amount they're giving you for the trade in is probably 60-70% of what they're going to get when they get rid of it, problem or not.
That said, it's not your job to tell them what's wrong if they don't find it themselves.
It'll probably get refurbished at Manheim depending on the vehicle. Then they'll sell it for more than they paid you plus refurbishment cost, or they'll make it up by screwing the next buyer with financing or on their trade-in. I wouldn't worry about the car dealership. That's why wholesale auctions exist.
e: Now that I think about it: Fucking consumers not learning to do it themselves.
Computer repair shops are just as bad as mechanics to people who know nothing at all about their PC's. I've seen places charge $50 for a "ram install", apparently there are people who exsist this day and age, enough to make it plausable, that do not know how to seat a simple ram chip, probably the easiest computer upgrade out of them all.

Indeed. Feed of the ignorant. I'd love to learn how to work on cars, but cars are a little more important than computers. If I fuck up a computer, it doesn't work. If I fuck up a car repair, I am potentially putting my life in danger.
I had a friend who just traded in a Saturn with a moonroof that wouldn't close. It was a nice day so he had all the windows down and the moonroof open when it was inspected.
Next day wasn't such a nice day though when he went to complete the trade in and buying of a new car. Thunderstorms and all manner of rain.
They shake hands, friend hops in his new car and the dealer goes to move the trade in. He ended up sitting in a puddle of water and calling out to my friend "Hey! The roof doesn't close!"
I traded in my wife's Geo Storm with a busted half axle that did that horrible clicking thing whenever you turned left. I entered the parking lot through a complex series of right turns and parked in the middle. Guy came out and looked at it from about 20 feet away and quoted me a price. For months afterwards I saw that car on the lot until I assume they sent it off for auction or scrap. This was a kind of shady used car dealer. From the time I left for the bank and came back with a check someone had stolen the shift knob out of the truck I was buying.
To be fair, Storms were defective pieces of shit the day they came off the assembly line.
Bah, it's no biggie. You think used car dealer will mention a car's problems before selling it away? Of course not. Used car dealers are some of the most untrustworthy people that walk this earth. They just try to get as much money as possible for the piece of crap you're about to buy, by any means necessary.

So, you're saying Used Car Salesmen are incredibly untrustworthy and engage in this behavior, so the OP should also not feel bad about doing it? Awesome.
I would tell them about the window issue, but that's because I try to be honest. If you would rather not risk your trade-in value, go for it, don't tell them.
I do think that not telling them is pretty clearly ethically wrong though. You're lying (by omission) about the car in order to get a better value on it (presumably). Yes, that's not all that uncommon, but it doesn't make it right.

"Nope!" Yells back the friend as he rolls away.
lol..
Anyways last time I went looking for cars they don't even ask you if shit does not work on the car. They pretty much take it as is and assume you are going to try to fuck them.
Well when the left-side window stopped, we took the inside door panel off and propped it up with a series of twine and a carefully cut piece of wood. That'll just be a nice surprise for whoever opens that door panel in the future :P
don't even worry about that, thats an easy fix for almost any mechanic.

For example:
Acura dealership has an Acura that needs brakes, floor mats, oil change, air filter, and 4 new tires.
They then have a Pontiac that needs the same things listed.
The Acura will get it all, while the Pontiac gets the oil change and enough to make it drive.
In other words, you are scott free sir.

whose to say they didn't notice it. something like a window motor is a cheap easy fix
Really? Everytime I bring my Ford to get the window motor fixed it's about $400.
Cheap for them. How much could the part cost? $30-$50? And maybe two hours?
It's totally cheap.

But yeah, OP, seriously it's not your problem. Relax and enjoy your new car. 8-)
