It's more like they gave them candy for doing something but then half of them worked around it so they got candy without doing anything, then Valve told them to fuckout and threw candy out of a blimp and only the lucky get candy.
This.
I bet if people hadn't exploited the shit out of the achievement system, the random drops would not have been as appealing of an option for Valve
I bet if they hadn't made the initial achievements/unlocks so shit awful to get, the exploits wouldn't have been anywhere near as bad.
They have a track record for releasing incredibly awful first versions of things.
So shit awful to get in that I have all the medic unlocks in the 9 hours total I have played medic?
The achievement system was fine, there were (are) plenty of achievements to fill out the milestone requirements and other ones there that were obviously supposed to take a while or be worked towards. Just a bunch of babby's decided they wanted the unlocks NOW and got Valve's attention
And yeah, half-life, half-life 2, TFC, portal, team fortress 2, left 4 dead, all terribly shitty upon release, god these guys should get their act together!!
Hats aside, I'm having a serious case of Mapper's Block as I want to make a map for TF2 but I have no idea what to make. Give me some suggestions to hopefully spark something.

a tower defense type of map, where blue team has to find their way through a labyrinth while the red team has access from above with one or two saferooms along the way for blu to duck into with supply cabinets

Yes, because this is exactly the same game now as it was when the medic unlocks wre released.

Has there been a fundamental shift to the game mechanics that I have noticed in the two years we've been playing?
Oh wait yeah, they decreased the amount of achievements needed for unlocks and watered down some of the requirements of the achievements themselves
Hats aside, I'm having a serious case of Mapper's Block as I want to make a map for TF2 but I have no idea what to make. Give me some suggestions to hopefully spark something.
A map in which two bases on heightened platforms are separated by a lot of trains, in the middle of like 3 train rails is a CP point, so its like this BTTTCPTTTR Make this map, it will be cool. Maybe more train tracks. You could run really fast and time it, or jump from train to train.

Sometimes I don't even know why I even attempt to have a serious conversation on these forums anymore.
Goomba, I didn't really mean to imply that it was as difficult now as opposed to then, as many things have changed since the medic pack. Like, for instance, it only takes 1 million healing for Chief of Staff rather than the 10 million that enders got in his 9 hours of playtime.

Well obviously not if you can't even debate the points. I ask if there's been some kind of change to the game that would make my statement about low play time needed to gain unlocks wrong or invalid and all you can respond with is "Ugghh dumb plebs~*"

Like, you do know there are 38 other achievements for the medic right? Only 22 are needed for all 3 unlocks.
Humorous answer: the last time I debated points I got jailed.
More serious answer: I don't care enough to take the time to bother.

Gettin' mixed signals here but it's perfectly fine to backpedal
p.s don't try to make a point if you're not going to put any effort to back it up if called out on it, because supporting your position with evidence is a big part of having a serious conversation.
WOAH there buddy, anymore remarks like that I might put you on my shitlist.
Demoman is also not a real class in case you were wondering.
Whoa, hey hey hey hey! Let's continue to focus on the scout menace until they are purged from the history books. I think it's the best course of action.
We've already done the argument about the idiocy of unlockable weapons to death (actually about 8 deaths), so that's probably why
That wasn't really even the original point, Morkath brought up that the original achievements/unlocks were hard to get, when all sorts of reality disagrees
Didn't Valve say only a very small percentage of people did the achievements for unlocks? If that's the case, they might as well make weapons be at 5, 10, and 15 achievements with hats at 20, 25, and 30.
Still keeps them rare-ish and does away with meritless randomness. They can be cheated? Oh no. I'm probably wasting too much thought on the subject. Definitely.
By the way, trading Bonk Helm or Pickelhaube for the Stove Pipe!
When the Medic update came out didn't you need to get all the achievements in the medic pack to actually get the Ubersaw? Including the bullshit ones like killing 5 Enemies in a Single Life while having a 100% undeployed uber? There's a couple of absolute whores in the medic pack that made getting the ubersaw 'properly' when it first came out a real pain the ass.
It was even worse for Medic because you needed to do stuff that as a medic you should not be fucking doing. Like running around needlegunning down 50 scouts. Or risking an uber by trying to bonesaw dudes in the face. When they knocked it down it meant you could get the unlocked in a few hours of normal, productive medic play.
Not to mention it's pretty much impossible to get all the original achievements in 9 hours anyway. But since I'm not going to bother looking up all that shit, I'll not try to have a serious conversation and end my part of the conversation with a time honoured tradition of
boofars cannon
ecks-d
Edit: Are we talking about the state of the unlocks now, or then? Feel free to backpedal if you want. I won't call you out on it.

TF2 PAX buttons should be invitations to punch each other in the face and yell nonsensical shit about hats and dicks.

1 (one) single sourcemod server, do not know which.
And Roland, unless I'm just a super great medic (I'm not) it wasn't difficult at all to get achievements by just being a medic.

Cool desktop but hide the plug thing on the right, makes it look messy.

My sound board?
But... it is essential to the computing experience!
edit: or do you mean under the desk? Because fuck changing that. I only look at the top of the desk anyway.
I've always been a vocal opponent of achievement whoring and those events

I guess I can answer his question for you since you're avoiding it
you don't have nearly all of the medic achievements
You don't need all the achievements for the unlocks?
